Re: [GNC] Pdf Export Problems

2021-04-12 Thread Gareth Davies via gnucash-user
Hi All,

Exporting it to Pdf and then opening it with Foxit Reader worked, so thanks all
for your help.

The strange thing is after opening it in Foxit, I then saved it as a copy which
Adobe Acrobat was able to open. Very Odd indeed.

At least I now have a workaround which allows me to send out Account Reports to
other Club Members.

So once again thanks for your help.

I just tried v4.5 with Foxit Reader and didn't have any issues as well

Gareth -- another workaround, in case direct to pdf is not working,

After making your report -- just hit the export button (not export as pdf)
Save the file
(The file will be in html - so it will read filename.html)
Double click on this file and it will open in your browser
You now can print this file from the browser ( if you want a paper copy) -
or print to Microsoft Print to Pdf and then you have the file in PDF.

Let me know if this one works.

As you can see -- fortunately or unfortunately -- there are many ways to
skin the cat on this one -- ultimately there will be a way to get what you
want.

BTW -- when I export the native file to PDF - mine opens with no problem.
So I don't think this is a GNU-CASH issue -- I actually think it could be an
Adobe issue since I do not use Adobe for pdfs (not even the reader).

Hi Ken,

I did try what you suggested, but unfortunately for me it did not work.
It produced an error saying,... This file is already open or in use
by another application.

I did however open the saved Exported Pdf file in Premier Elements Pro, but
it did create quite a few errors with the headings, which took over an hour
to resolve.

print and chose Microsoft print to pdf. Save with the name you want and the
resulting file opens fine in pdf. At least it does for me. Give it a try

James,

The upgrade process is outlined here:
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Using_Different_Versions.2C_Up_And_Downgrade

You'll want to first upgrade to a 2.6 release, likely 2.6.21 as it was the last
2.6 version and can read 3.0 files in case you have to step back.

After the upgrade, open your file, run Actions > Check & Repair > Check &
Repair All, make sure everything looks okay, then save the file and proceed to
3.11. (the last 3.x release) Rinse & repeat for 4.1. (current)

There have been loads of changes and improvements since 2.4. The basics should
still be the same, but you will have some adjustments to make.

Regards,
Adrien

Gareth,

I'm not sure you can use the Transaction Report to search an account... say the
checking account... for a value greater than X.

I also don't see a way using the Customer Report.

But, you can just bring up the register... say the checking account register...
and search (Ctl-F) the Description, Notes, and Memo fields for whatever... like
find all transactions in checking to or from GoDaddy...

Then, press Ctl-F again but this time, instead of searching for something in
the Description, Notes, or Memo fields search for Value... then you can set
that search to return transactions greater than... your magic number.

So maybe if your Paid Members were in Sales... I guess there might be two
cases...

Sales from Paid Members and Sales from whatever else.

If some keyword were in the Paid Member transaction... like "membership dues"
than you could search the Sales Register for that then do your search of those
results for the Value greater than X.

I'm sure there may be a better way but maybe this will give you an idea of
something to try.

Good Luck,

Fran3

This is a perfect example (even though minimal changes compared to what I am
usually doing)

Why ask for/expect this capability from WITHIN the accounting software?
These are the sort of changes you might want/need for the finished product
(the report as will be presented) but have nothing to do with the accounting
data.

Export the report, bring it into a document under control of your favorite
editor, then add the details like notes, change font or size of certain
parts, selective bolding or italics, etc.

COULD the developers add (to within the accounting package) the capabilities
of an editor? Perhaps. But WHY do that when plenty of perfectly good editing
apps already exist.

Re: [GNC] Transaction Report: 1)Print only totals 2)Add comment to print out ?

2019-11-01 Thread Gareth Davies via gnucash-user
Hi all,

I have been reading these emails with interest, but I was wondering if I
could apply a filter in the transactions to only show those people who have
paid Membership Fees above a certain amount i.e £100

Cheers,

Gareth,

Yes, everything *between* the ` but not including the ` (if that helps):

`* { font: 10pt verdana, arial, sans-serif; }`

You put the line in a *plain* text file named:

gtk-3.0.css

and place it in:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\GnuCash

Then start or re-start GnuCash. You’ll need to restart each time you alter the
size or font.

The `*` is a CSS selector indicating ALL elements of the UI. (or of the HTML
for a report or webpage) If you only want to target certain elements, you can
use those selectors instead.

CSS rules are enclosed in {}.

CSS declarations begin with a property name followed by a `:` and then the
values you want to set. The declaration is ended with a `;`.

The above is a shorthand version of separate rules:

font-size:
font-family:

You could specify them separately if you like, as so:

* {
  font-size: 10pt;
  font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; }

Note, capitalization on fonts is usually sensitive, so those *might* have to be:

`Verdana` and `Arial` respectively.

Finally, rules can be on a single line if you like, but I write it on separate
lines as a readability convention, even for short declarations so they all look
the same in a larger file. This allows the selector and the individual
declarations to easily stand out. It also makes editing and comment masking
much easier, but all of that is well beyond the immediate task here.

Regards,
Adrien

Check the FAQ on the wiki. There is a set of linked pages there detailing how
to set your own style sheet to change colors, fonts, padding, etc.

If you want the same font across the entire UI, you’ll want to use the *
selector.

Hi,

Since upgrading to V3.5 today I have noticed that all the fonts in the
program have changed to a very thin one which doesn't stand out as on the
previous version.

How can I change the default text font to one which is bolder and easier to

While that resets the reconciliation flag, it may not necessarily ensure that
past reconciliations are correctly reconciled forward from the editied
transactions were altered in cases where the edit involved changing amount
details in the splits affecting the reconciled account. If the changes were
simply to description and memo fields or only to amounts in splits to
unreconciled accounts, then what you suggest will work. Redoing the procedure
from the period covering the edit forward ensures that this is the case.

[GNC] Cant see previous transactions

2018-11-14 Thread Gareth Davies via gnucash-user
Using Windows 10 with Version 3.2

I have been sent a file from a friend who uses Gnucash, I can see all the
previous transactions going back to 2016, except for the current account file.

Could this be caused by it not showing the reconciled transactions, I have
looked to see if there is a tick box for showing previous reconciled
transactions but cannot find one.

Can

[GNC] Difference between Net Loss and Retained Earnings

2018-06-18 Thread Gareth Davies via gnucash-user
Again another Newby question.

When I generate a Profit and Loss report it shows a net Loss for the period
of £567, yet on the Balance Sheet report it shows a Retained Earnings figure
of £701.

I don’t understand why the difference, as I thought Retained Earnings meant
Profit.

Any help much appreciated.

Re: [GNC] Reconcile Problem

2018-06-08 Thread Gareth Davies via gnucash-user
Hi Ron, and thank you for the welcome.

Thanks to the messages I received from you and Derek I was able to find out
where my problem was.

As I mentioned in my post I am still trying to get my head around the program,
and no doubt this will not be the last of my posts.

Gareth

Hi Gareth. Welcome to the list.

With the account register open, click on the "view" item in the menu bar, then
in the dialog that opens click on "filter by". Then click on "status" in that
menu bar which opens a selection dialog. Clear the checks from all but
"Reconciled". Then click on OK.

Putting a check in the "save filter" box will make the selection persistent
from session to session, otherwise the filter will revert to the default (all
categories selected) the next time you open the account register.

You'll have to set the filter for each account register individually.

Ron Morse.

[GNC] Reconcile Problem

2018-06-07 Thread Gareth Davies via gnucash-user
Hi,

This is my first post so hopefully I am doing things correctly.

I have been appointed as Treasurer to a Club and have been handed the
accounts from the previous treasurer who used Gnucash.

The problem I am having is how can I see the previous reconciled
transactions, I have looked in the preference settings but can't find any
tick box that would allow me to do this.

Any help much appreciated.
