[GNC] Fixed decimal separator on MacOS Big Sur 11.4

2021-07-27 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Hello,

I’m using GnuCash on MacOS with language/region set to French Canada.

I had a problem with the decimal separator in GnuCash since updating from MacOS
10.13 to 10.14 . I upgraded to Big Sur (11.4) in the last few days, and the
problem persisted.

In went into my installed Gnucash.app, in Contents/Resources, and noticed there
was no french resources, even if the application is in french on my Mac (french
menus, buttons, etc). I just created an empty fr.lproj folder, restarted the
application, and my decimal separator is now the comma, the default value for
french Canada. The fix may also work on other MacOS versions between 10.14 and
11.4 .

Duplicating the en.lproj folder and renaming the copy to fr.lproj would make
GnuCash bring the English manuals when accessing the Help/Tutorial and Concepts
Guide menu. It’s probably better than an empty fr.lproj folder where the
Tutorial menu would bring nothing.

[GNC] Decimal separator on MacOS Mojave 10.14

2021-05-24 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Hello,

I just upgraded from MacOS 10.13 High Sierra to 10.14.6 Mojave.

Since upgrade, GnuCash uses the period instead of comma as decimal separator.

All existing transactions are shown with 123.45 instead of 123,45 and when
entering new transactions I need to use the period as decimal separator. Also,
I get an error when GnuCash tries to apply a scheduled transaction (since
scheduled transactions were created with comma as decimal separator)

I checked settings in GnuCash : Preferences/Account/Default Currency shows
Canadian Dollars.

The settings in MacOS seems to be correct also : System Preferences/Language
and Region is set to Canada and the money example is 4 567,89 . Clicking
Advanced, the decimal separator for both numbers and money is set to comma
(default value for Canada).

Other software (OpenOffice) uses the comma as expected.

Any hints ?

Thanks,

Yves Forget

[GNC] OSX crash on exit GnuCash 4.4.1 and 4.4.2

2021-02-25 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Hello,

I upgraded recently from GnuCash 4.1.2 to GnuCash 4.4.1 on OSX. The app works
fine, but crashes when I quit.

I’ve seen a commit on January 25 that I believe would fix this issue.

I’ve downloaded 4.4.2 from SourceForge, but I still get the issue. The about
box says Build ID 4.4+ (2020-12-28), so I’m not sure I got the right thing.

This is not a major issue, but I just wanted to be sure the bug is not supposed
to be fixed in 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 .

Thanks !

Are you on a laptop sometimes attached to an external display? Maybe the
windows are opening outside of your screen. I get this often, even with

Re: [GNC] Can't get GNUCASH to work on OSX

2021-01-01 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Hello,

First, I’m a few days late. Second, the crash seems to happen only the first
time after the app has been installed, so fixing this bug may not be the top
priority of Gnucash developers. Anyways, here’s what I found.

I’m running High Sierra 10.13.6. I’m using GnuCash for a couple of years now.
Back in September, I saw GnuCash version 4 was out, and downloaded 4.1.2, but
didn’t install it at that time. Last week I installed it (4.1.2). The first
time I started the app, the icon bounced for a few seconds, then nothing. I
started the app again, and it worked.

After seeing this thread I looked in my Console app, and found a crash of
GnuCash 4.1.2 on Dec 26. The app did not crash since then, so this must be the
crash on the first run after installing it. Apple generated a crash file in
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticsReports. The file is human readable. On the top of
the file I can see that the app crashed on an exception EXC_BAD_ACCESS
(SIGSEGV). Termination Signal 11 : Segmentation Fault. I can provide the file
if needed.

My Gnucash file is in SqLite format. I don’t know if the problem is related to
that.

I use VmWare Fusion on my Mac. It allows me to run a copy of OSX as a «
Virtual Machine ». It allows me to run something in the VM, and then restore
the VM to the original state. Since the problem occurs only the first time the
app is run after installing, restoring the VM might help. If someone is
interested with this issue, I could see if the bug is random or if I can
reproduce it every time I start Gnucash after installing the new version, try
with various file formats, etc.

If I can help further please let me know !

Thanks,

Yves

[GNC] Income statement with transactions

2020-12-24 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
I am trying to get a report similar to the Income Statement (Revenues and
expenses, with subtotals by account), but with transactions instead of just the
summary for each account.

I went with the Transactions Report and got pretty close with the following :
account name as primary key and date and secondary key. With account in
ascending order, I get Expenses before Revenues. Revenues first would be
better but I can live with that.

My main problem is that the report shows only the account name of the
bottom-level account. The sort seems to be on the full name (Expenses:Car:Gas)
but it shows only Gas in the report.

Is there any way to get that with existing reports ? Should I use another
report instead of the Transactions Report to achieve this purpose ?

Thanks,

Yves

Re: [GNC] Decimal separator on Gnucash 3.2 Mac (fixed !!!)

2018-08-04 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Problem fixed. I thought I’d share with the list in case the problem happens
to someone else.

I installed GnuCash short after upgrading from OSX 10.9 to 10.13. Gnucash uses
period as decimal separator, while here in French Canada decimal separator
should be comma.

After asking the list I saw that Quicken 2015 for Mac did the same. Annoying
that my numeric keypad would send comma but GnuCash and Quicken both want a
period.

I’m sure Quicken worked fine on 10.9 (displaying and expecting comma), because
in old printed reports I got the comma as decimal separator.

Today I noticed that in System Preferences/Language and region, my preferred
regions were French Canada and English Canada, with French Canada as main
region. If I remove English Canada (keeping only French Canada), both Gnucash
and Quicken want a comma. Bring back English Canada (with French Canada as
main region), both want a period.

Seems to be a bug on Apple’s side, where locale is set to EN_CA even if main
region is French Canada.

So I kept only French Canada in region preferences and everything works fine.

Thanks,

Yves Forget

Re: [GNC] Decimal separator on Gnucash 3.2 Mac

2018-07-02 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Hi John,

Running from the terminal I still get period. In the terminal I got the
following trace.

(process:1976): gnc.gui-WARNING **: 18:35:55.003: [mac_set_languages()]
Language list: en:fr_CA:en_CA:C

I just downloaded the sources from GitHub, and looked at [mac_set_languages()].
 Foundation offers global variables NsLocaleDecimalSeparator,
NSLocaleGroupingSeparator and NSLocaleCurrencySymbol, among others. These
variables would bring directly the values mac_set_languages() is trying to get.
Furthermore, if a user changes the decimal separator in the Advanced panel of
the Language and Region system preferences, gnu cash would get the expected
separator instead of the locale’s default separator. Is it something that
could be changed without breaking a lot of things in the app ?

Please don’t hesitate to tell me if I’m completely wrong…

Thanks,

Yves

Re: [GNC] Decimal separator on Gnucash 3.2 Mac

2018-07-02 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
System Preferences/Language and Region says Region = Canada and language =
french.  Advanced shows decimal separator is comma and thousands separator is
space.  (These are default values for French Canada).
Environment variable LANG=fr_CA.UTF_8
OpenOffice correctly uses comma as decimal separator.
Is Gnucash supposed to use the parameters from the locale ?  Is there a way to
force it ?
 Thanks,
Yves Forget

Maybe in Quebec it is a comma.  In the rest of the country it is a period.

There should be a different locale for fr-canada than for en-canada.  I don’t
know what else would differ across locales though.

[GNC] Decimal separator on Gnucash 3.2 Mac

2018-07-02 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
I’m new to GnuCash and just installed GnuCash 3.2 on Mac. OS X 10.13
Gnucash uses the period as decimal separator instead of my locale’s
separator. Here in Canada it should be comma.
Should Gnucash use the decimal separator of my locale, or is it always
period ? Is there a way to configure it within GnuCash ?
   Thanks,

[GNC] Quicken 2015 for Mac to GnuCash

2018-06-23 Thread Yves Forget via gnucash-user
Hi everyone,

I’m trying to migrate from Quicken 2015 for Mac to GnuCash.

I’ve seen the recommended way to import is using a qif file, but unfortunately
Quicken 2015 for Mac doesn’t offer qif export. I went through the GnuCash Help
manual and the GnuCash Tutorials and Concepts Guide, no success.

I tried all export formats supported by Quicken 2015 Mac, but didn’t find
anything useful :

Quicken uses a sqlite3 file as its standard save file.

I can export to .qxf (not .qfx) (Quicken For Windows Transfert File) It’s a
binary file that GnuCash doesn’t seem to recognize.

I can also export to .qmtf (Quicken for Mac 2007 Transfer File). Is a text
file similar to the .qif file, but is not recognized by GnuCash. (I even tried
to rename the file to .qif, still no success)

Finally, I can export to a .csv file (no accounts, just « Register Transactions
»). GnuCash’s preview of imported transactions shows nothing, so my .csv file
may not be what GnuCash expects.

I have about 10 years of history in Quicken, so I would prefer to bring my
history to GnuCash instead of starting with an empty database. What’s the
easiest way to get my data into GnuCash ?

I’ve seen at the end of the Help Manual an example awk script to convert a .csv
file to a .qif file. Could bring transactions but will probably need to create
accounts manually before importing transactions.

I can write awk/sed/vi scripts if needed. The QIF file format is documented
quite well on Wikipedia, so I may be able to fix my .qmtf file into a valid
.qif file for GnuCash.

Quicken 2015 internal format is a sqlite3 database. The file is readable, so
if I find where transactions are stored I may be able to while a SQL query to
generate a QIF file.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks,

Yves Forget
