If I had a binary choice to put autosaves and logfiles "in same folder" or "in a sub-folder", I'd vote for Adrien's solution. But I'd prefer to see it configurable, so that everyone can have it as they wish. As for the lock file, to me it seems most useful if it's in the same folder as the database, as it is now. That makes it a bit easier to notice. Why the OP had to "search for" it is a mystery to me.
