Yes, that's right. The GnuCash word for a read-only account is a Placeholder. On your Accounts panel, you may want to click the down arrow at the extreme right of the headings row, and tick (check) Placeholder. Then if you have several accounts to make read only, you can do that by ticking (checking) boxes in the new column of the Accounts Panel, instead of having to open up a new Edit screen for each account. By the way, Hidden accounts also have an optional column in the Accounts panel. If you want to hide or unhide several accounts at once, it's a time saver too.
