Fortunately not.
Everything can be "Tax Invoice" even if you don't collect GST.

I have a saved report which is my Tax Invoice.
It contains more customisations than just having Tax Invoice.
The tax can be specifically named GST etc.

Using a saved report means that the changes are preserved through
updates of Gnucash.

Putting my old senior business analyst hat back on for a moment, this is
presumably NOT what is being requested. I am pretty sure if we ask
(business analysts ask, do not tell the client what the client wants) we
will find out that the request for is a SELECTION ox, so only specific
invoices would be so titled.

But the real point I am trying to make is that at any time a
jurisdiction can impose requirements, even things like font and font
size, etc. And what one jurisdiction requires independent of what the
next requires. THAT is why things like this best handled with editing
outside of gnucash. We should ask of the gnucash developers that the
CONTENT not be lacking for any jurisdiction, not the editing details.

Thanks John. I don't know why I didn't see the Custom Title options. I
must have been through the configuration about 5 times. I guess I was
blinkered and just looking for the word "Invoice".

Re: [GNC] Change Printed Invoice (Alan Hopkins)

2024-02-06 Thread Clare Vanessa | Web Freelancer
Hi,

Although not specifically a GNC issue, to extend a little on what Alan wrote
with regards to Australian invoice requirements, the type of invoice you
issue (i.e. 'invoice' versus 'tax invoice') depends on your GST status. If
you have registered for GST (your business needs to have an annual GST
turnover of $75,000), then your invoices need to specify 'Tax Invoice', but
if you are not registered, you should really only have 'Invoice' on your
invoices otherwise the recipient will be looking for how much GST you
collected on behalf of the government at the end of your invoice and it
isn't legally correct.

You can read more at the following link on government requirements regarding
invoices:
https://business.gov.au/finance/payments-and-invoicing/how-to-invoice.
Incidentally, the minimum amount for a tax invoice needing to be issued
according to this prior link is $82.50 (including GST), but most businesses
just have the wording on everything when they are registered for GST since
it is in their software as default wording.

And yes as mentioned earlier, it is easy to change the 'Invoice' wording in
the settings without having to do it each time in a PDF editor.
Additionally, since I also reside in Australia and am not registered for
GST, as discussed my invoices only state 'Invoice' to comply with
regulations. But after hitting 'Print Invoice', I also click on 'Options' in
top toolbar, and under 'Display Columns' tab, I untick the boxes next to
'Taxable' and 'Tax Amount' to make absolutely clear that no GST has been
charged to avoid any confusion on the end of the recipient so they know I
haven't just accidentally forgotten to charge GST or something along those
lines.

Kind regards,
Clare

Yep - it is as easy as John says. And I can clarify there is no issue in
Australia with having "Tax Invoice" on invoices below $1000. Go to the
supermarket or buy fuel and the machine docket will say Tax Invoice no
matter what you spend because it will indicate how much , if any, Goods &
Services Tax (GST) is included.

Editing the code is unnecessary.

After clicking the Print button you'll get an invoice report tab with the
invoice. Open report options and enter Tax Invoice in the Custom Title field of
the General tab, then click Apply or OK.

I'm not familiar w/ Australian laws but if it requires it to say just
"Invoice" if it's under 1,000, maybe the best solution is to set it for
which you send out more (over or under 1000) so you are manually editing
less for the other.

be simpler to have it read correctly from the start.

This is precisely why the lawyer/accountant on the board of one of the
organizations for which I was treasurer told me NOT to do that sort of
editing within gnucash. But instead to do exactly what you are doing.
Edit it afterwards when the full power of a general purpose editor was
available << even though in MY case as a retired IT pro, something I
could have done -- gnucash is open source >>

THINK about it. You want the ability to do this editing WITHIN gnucash.
Doesn't seem like a big deal, and for THIS particular example, not a big
deal. But consider ALL the possible differences that this or that
jurisdiction might require for any and all outputs going to that
jurisdiction. In other words, what would really be needed would be the
ability to edit just about everything from within gnucash. And that
would be a big deal, and a waste of time as excellent full power editors
already exist.
