Re: "no valid subkey"
As an additional hint how to find your encryption key (as opposed to signature or authentication keys), you need to look for keys with "usage: E". In your case it is 0971954D: $ gpg2 --edit-key 0xB240C11D pub 4096R/B240C11D created: 2010-12-10 expires: 2014-11-11 usage: SC trust: unknown validity: unknown sub 2048R/0320F4A4 created: 2014-01-06 expires: 2014-11-11 usage: S sub 4096R/0971954D created: 2010-12-10 expires: 2014-11-11 usage: E [ unknown] (1). You must extend the validity period of the subkey. This may be easier with a GUI (GPA cannot do that but Enigmails key management can). In the console it's this: gpg --edit-key 0xB240C11D _ > key 1 _ > expire _ > ... _ > save Hauke -- Crypto für alle: http://www.openpgp-schulungen.de/fuer/unterstuetzer/ http://userbase.kde.org/Concepts/OpenPGP_Help_Spread OpenPGP: 7D82 FB9F D25A 2CE4 5241 6C37 BF4B 8EEF 1A57 1DF5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ Gnupg-users mailing list Gnupg-users@gnupg.org http://lists.gnupg.org/mailman/listinfo/gnupg-users

You probably want to add an RSA encryption subkey of the suggested size. After the key has been generated, enter "save" and back to the command line send your key to the keyservers: gpg --send-key 0xb240c11d Shalom-Salam, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. "no valid subkey"
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Dear all, This might not be the best place for beginners to ask for help, but the reason I subscribed is that icedove says I have "no valid subkey" to my two registered email addresses: http://pgp.surfnet.nl:11371/pks/lookup?op=vindex&fingerprint=on&search=0xB240C11D Further, a friend told me that his key-manager won't let him encrypt to one of them.
