FIRST CHARTER FLIGHTS LAND: The arrival of 592 tourists by two separate 
charters yesterday to a traditional welcome heralded the commencement of 
what is projected as a season of plenty by the tourism sector. The first 
flight ‘Monarch’ touched down at 2.30 pm at the Dabolim airport with 360 
tourists while 232 more landed, an hour later. (GT)

WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN BENAULIM: Mystery surround the death of a young Bengali 
woman, Anita Mandal, at Pedda, Benaulim. Police have registered a case of 
unnatural death, but are awaiting the post mortem report to take action. (GT)

MARDOL RESIDENT COMMITS SUICIDE: Krishna Nath Naik (50) from Kuncoliem, 
Mardol, committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree behind his house

GOMANT VISHWA SAMMELAN: The government of Goa will organise “Gomant Vishwa 
Sammelan”, a convention of worldwide Goans under the aegis of NRI-Goa 
Facilitation Centre, on January 3, 4 and 5, 2004. The Chief Minister said 
that the basic idea to organise this type of convention is to cultivate a 
sense of belonging among the fellow Goans who are spread all over the 
world…The basic stress would be on identification of core areas and having 
technical sessions on education, health care, tourism, art and culture, 
agriculture and industry. A monitoring committee will also be set up to 
tackle issues coming out of the deliberations. (NT)

COMPUTERS FOR ALL: Minister for Power Digambar Kamat has said that under 
the cyberage scheme of the government each and every house in the State 
would be provided with a computer during the next five years. He was 
speaking as chief guest after inaugurating a seminar on “Cyber Laws and 
Cyber Crimes” organised by the Law Graduates Guild at Nanu Resort in 
Betalbatim yesterday. (H)

PATENT LITERACY: It came out officially in an interactive session held by 
FICCI, jointly with GCCI at Hotel Taj, Goa, on September 30, that India is 
rushing ahead just to meet the WTO obligations. As a country with the 
world’s largest scientific, engineering and technical human resource pool, 
we have still not thought of a national policy exclusively to deal with the 
IPR and patents literacy…Dr RA Mashelkar, Director General of CSIR, gave a 
new message to the audience—“Patent, publish and prosper”. This is easier 
said than done because only a microscopic section of scientists are trained

OFFENCE BOOKED UNDER GOA CHILD ACT: The first offence of child abuse after 
the enactment of the Goa Child Act, 2003, was booked on Saturday with the 
CID/Crime branch police arresting two persons in connection with the 
alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl. It is learn that the incident took 
place at a bar owned by one of the alleged accused along the Mapusa

processing any kind of waste through biological process, in

AUTOMATIC SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT FOR PANAJI: If the authorities are to be 
believed, Panaji will have an automatic, computerised and, what is more, 
stench-free Sewage Treatment Plant, of the type currently used in some 
European countries, before the onset of the next monsoon. The conventional 
labour-intensive plant, which was installed in the late sixties at Tonca to 
treat just 5.7 million litres of sewage will also be set up keeping in mind 
the need for the 30 years. (GT)

CORJUEM KHAJAN LAND IN PERIL: The Podwal Tenants Association of Corjuem is 
faced with a liability of Rs.1,42,950 in the form of a loan which is to be 
paid to the Soil Conservation Department and which is pending for the last 
18 years. Burdened as the Association is with the aforesaid liability, the 
Khajan land has been rendered unsafe since the bundhs are very weak and 
repairs cannot be undertaken due to shortage of funds. (GT)

ABVP GROUP FOR AYODHYA: A batch of more than 100 workers of the Akhil 
Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad led by Pritish Desai will leave for Ayodhya 
tomorrow. The ABVP has appealed to the students to extend their support to 
the movement and proceed to Ayodhya and participate in the mass 
congregation of humanity on 17 October. (GT)

FINANCIAL AID SOLICITED: Santosh and Sukanti Chodankar, daily wage earners 
from Amboi, St Mathias, Divar, have appealed for financial help for their 
15-year-old son Swapnil Chodankar, who is suffering from ventricular sepral 
defect. The GMC has advised them to admit him in KLES Hospital, Belgaum, 
for surgery which requires an amount of Rs.2 lakh approximately. Those 
interested in helping may send their donations
