collections which goes to Caritas it is the duty of thechurch to do charity to
the needy. We lay people are sweating to make both ends meet. I have not seen
any religious putting a paise in the sunday collection box.

Albert writes:- Tomazin Cardoz as the president of TA is doing a very good
job.We really need such type of dynamic personality. One thing the TA can do is
to produce tiatrs on its own. There are many people like me who can write
tiatrs but lack in producing them on the stage. Like wise there are many young
and talented actors who want to act but do not have opportunities coming to
them. So Ta could organise such tiatrs. Script could be collected and edited if
required and artist could be selected both amaeteurs and professionals and the
same could be staged in the main cities of Goa. The profit could go to the TA.
Hope someone pays attention to it. I hope I am clear

Not to worry, Marshall, the 'one and only' priya would have found a way,
much like she found her way back to the family mansion after dumping the pious
Marxist, Firoze, soon after independence.
She was her father's hostess, but it was never his intention to create a
family succession, something made very clear to us when he placed Lal Bahadur
in his own office.  The 'Shastri',  learned-man, had insisted on 'minister
without portfolio' for a title.  Indu conned her way to a LBS succession by
posing as a pliable stop-gap, as the state bosses wrestled with the problem
posed by a defiant Morarjee. That rotter was widely despised for the greed that
saw his son's name used synonymously with graft - do you remember it ?
Kamraj, the patriot, and nemesis of both the KGB as well as Swiss banks, was
the obvious choice for most, but fate was to decide otherwise.
After years of turpor, we smelt hope in the ashes, in the form of a Sam
Manekshaw coup, but he was too much of a King's ribbon : it took Sikh bullets
to restore real independence, again.  Another pointer for you as you ponder and
wonder : I discovered from the Parsee General's recent obit that his two
daughters had married a Ginwalla and a Batliwalla. Did he give up on the Parsee
peg !!  eric.

What’s in a name? In a lighter vein, I was just wondering what would have
been the future of India’s ‘first family’ had Indira married say a Firoze
Batliwalla  or Daruwalla or Treasurywalla. Would Indira and her heirs have
enjoyed the same adulation, power and aura that they command today?

Just a thought.

Regards,

Marshall

I was never a big fan of NDTV nor am I now. But it looks like Arvind is trying
to crucify an NDTV reporter for a forgettable slip.
A number of times in the past I felt very strongly about NDTV reporting. But
that was because I thought the reports were not objective. Many on many
occasions clearly said so. Never mind I was not one of them.
If anything all Goans should register their protest on the way the govt's
self-aggrandising and questionable disbursement of aid to the genuine victims
of the recent Canacona floods. The political opportunism of some Congress
leaders and the CMs indecision is deplorable in this testing times.
Goan solidarity is the need of the hour but let us not waste it on trifles.

Dear friends,

We returned last night from burying Gina Braganza in her home town of
Hyderabad. It
has been a harrowing few days.

The service in Bangalore, prior to going on to Hyderabad, was something I have
never
seen before. The Holy Cross church is very large with arrangement to seat six
hundred. But that day there were well-over a thousand! They filled every nook
and
corner of the church and its balconies, and overflowed out into the yard. There
were
people of every creed and age. I even saw a few in the black Muslim hijab which
was
startling (and very beautiful) when one considers the area in which Gina
worked.
Gina was such a joy in life, and she had spread that joy wider than any of us,
including her husband Carlton, had imagined.

News of her death has been carried widely in the local newspapers. The Times
of
India in Bangalore ran a beautiful and emotional report on Gina and her life
and
work. Here is the link :

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/Thank-you-for-the-music/articleshow/5087520.cmsI
was asked by the family to deliver an eulogy to Gina at the service in
Bangalore.I am attaching what I said.I still find it hard to accept that we
will never see Gina again. She brought somuch to our lives. For once, the
phrase "she has left a void that could never befilled" is not the cliche it
often becomes.Best - SP--STANLEY PINTOORATION FOR GINA AT HER FUNERAL SERVICE04
October 2009___I stand here in the
house of God, before his sanctified altar, and a thousandquestions course
through my mind. One of them I want to shout out loud: What is thisthing called
Life? What is it about? What is the point of the miracle of grantingit, when
what may one day follow that beautiful miracle is this awful,heart-rending,
catastrophic snatching away of it?Thy Will be done, we say. Thy Will be done.
Of course, it will be done, because youare all-powerf
ul. Omnipotent. But are you not also all-knowing . . . omniscient?Did you not
know that in this world of burgeoning mediocrity, where millions walkthrough
leaving barely a trace of having ever been here, the life of one who made itall
worthwhile for so many of us had be protected at all costs?Could you not see
that a world without her is a world so impoverished, so shorn ofthe fine lustre
she brought to everything she did, that it couldn't possibly be theworld you
had in mind on that long ago creation day? What in heaven's name were you
thinking when you took your all-seeing eye off thiswonderful child, at that one
inexplicable moment of silly playfulness? Why could your palm, in which you held
her so safely during her short and oh sobeautiful life, not protect her when
she walked out over its edge?So many questions. But there are no easy answers.
Perhaps there will never be.What there is, is a hole in a skylight through
which our Gina . . . flew away. Sweetbird of a youth th
at she rekindled and revived in me every time she walked herradiant smile into
a room.Dear Gina. We'll miss you . . . how we will miss you.

Once in the UK (London) and as per the country’s culture etc, the wife made
at least 5 boyfriends. Everywhere the mother goes, she took her teenage
daughter too. Over a period of 7 years, the daughter too followed in her

Hi Joe,
This is 100% true.
The suicide boy from Slough who drowned himself.

Goan Women!! what do they see in a white man?

Yes I know. - They fall for their sweet talk.
My mother in law (goan) employs only white men to do any DIY jobs.
She also says that white doctors are better than the Indian ones - DOH
When I told her to see ROGUE TRADERS on BBC, she did not want to watch it.
She thinks ALL white men are honest straight forward people - THAT'S THE

Ministry of Feni
Drinking to create awareness

By Cecil Pinto

"Good evening folks. This is your host Cecil Pinto reporting almost-live for
Goa-World.Com from Campal Parade Grounds. I'm covering the second General Body
Meeting of the newly convened Ministry of Feni. There's lots of action around.
Distillers and bottlers have put up stalls where drinkers can sample their
products.
On stage is a presentation on Feni Cocktails. Later today a debate will be held
on
Glass and Ceramic v/s Wooden Barrels for storing Caju Feni."

"Caju aficionados of varied vintages and at different levels of intoxication
are all
over the place engaged in animated discussions. I spot the editor of a local
English
daily, an architecture professor, an expert on urban anthropology, a graphic
artist,
a fashion designer, a pop star. Everyone seems to have latched on to the Joy of
Feni."

"Excuse me Sir. What is this magazine some of you are carrying?"

"This is not a magazine. It is a report - Geographical Indications and
Localisation:
A Case Study of Feni by Dr. Dwijen Rangnekar of the University of Warwick. It
is an
exhaustive and path breaking document that brings together knowledge of Feni
from
various resources in a comprehensive way that has never been done before. This
is
the defining work on Feni."

"In fact the Ministry of Feni, MoF as it will shortly be called, is a
semi-official
club of Caju Feni aficionados who will act as a pressure group on distillers,
bottlers and retailers to ensure that we get quality Feni at competitive
prices."

"MoFs as we call ourselves, no you cannot drop the 'o', are hardened
adventurers who
have spent most of our adult years in search of the Elixir of the Gods - the
perfect
Caju Feni. During urrack season we scour the countryside, with jerry cans and
hydrometers, investigating the product of different distillers to sniff out the
one
with the perfect taste, bouquet and 'grau'. We hope that this translates into
good
Feni and if it doesn't we move on to the next 'bhatti'. The rest of the year we
follow up leads to check out bars over the length and breadth of North Goa to
find
someone who stocks the perfect Feni."

"Why don't you do South Goa?"

"South Goa knows jack squat about making good Caju Feni!"

"When we find a perfect batch of Feni we drink it in copious amounts and buy as
much
as we can afford and store. We keep our findings and our suppliers secret from
non-MoFs. When we hear about or discuss a unique batch of Feni that someone has
discovered we actually froth at the mouth. The Konkani word for froth is
'feno'.
That's how Feni gets its name."

"What about the organizational structure?"

"At our very first meeting we used the 'lots' system for election. We had lots
and
lots of Feni and unanimously elected Dr. Rangnekar as the President in honour
of his
pioneering work. His tenure lasted exactly seven minutes. In his opening
address he
mentioned that certain bottlers blend Feni from different distilleries. For
even
uttering such a sacrilegious thought he was immediately thrown out if his post
and
now is an ordinary member but can use the title Immediate Past and Founding
President on his visiting card."

"But even Scotch Whiskey is mostly blended."

"We don't care for Scotch. Feni is never mixed with another Feni. Period. We
boycott
all people who attempt such nonsense! "

"What's this about MILF?"

"Not MILF, it's IMFL - Indian Made Foreign Liquor. Feni has to be deemed on par
with
IMFL and not treated as a 'country liquor' so that not only tavernas, but all
bars
can then sell it legally. We also demand that all bars keep a minimum of five
different Caju Fenis - two branded and three local with different strengths and
prices. If a MoF finds any establishment stocking more varieties of whiskey
than of
Feni the establishment will be boycotted."

"What about Palm Feni?"

"That the South Goans can figure out how to improve. Maybe they could ask for
Geographical Indicator status for Palm Feni and Belligerent Taxi Drivers."

"The Ministry of Feni is not only concerned about getting the industry to give
us
better products but also informative labeling. Ideally the bottle packaging
should
have details like alcohol v/v, village-year-method of distillation, storage
etc. MoF
want the consumer not only to have a wide variety but also to be able to make
an
informed choice. Right now many manufacturers think better packaging just
involves
making fancy bottles."

"Can you inform our viewers about Feni drinking traditions, like for example
salt-l

Practically all states were party to forming the Indian Constitution and Goa
was not.. There is nothing in having a constitution provided all concerned are
party to it or atleast involved in forming it.

Mario responds:

So, what's your point?  Goa was under occupation by the Portuguese invaders,
who had to be ejected because they had no "akkal".

You should file a lawsuit with the Indian Supreme Court to have your view
included in the constitution.

Arwin wrote:

I am NOT for bringing the Portugeese back; my view is to preserve Goan Identity
whilst being part of India; The point I was trying to make was that Goans were
never given a say in the future of their own land.
Certain safeguards have to be set by the Indian Government to preserve Goan
Identity. Also if you are aware its not only the Catholics who want to
preserve Goan Identity but many from Goa's Hindus & Muslims as well.

Mario responds:

If Goans did not have a say before 1961 it is the fault of the Portuguese.
Goans have had a say since 1987.

Those individuals who want to preserve whatever identity they think they have
are free to preserve it.  This is not a role for any national government which
is responsible for the entire country.

Arwin wrote:

As I have said to you before many things which are real today where because of
someones fantasy.

Mario responds:

Who am I to stop you from dreaming?

Arwin wrote:

Goa geographically maybe but then it will possibly be another Identity; which
makes we wonder did Goans waste their time at various times
to preserve Goa's Identity e.g. Opinion Poll.

Mario responds:

I don't see anyone wasting their time on this except you and me:-))

Arwin wrote:

Sorry Mario did I miss the awards ceremony where you were awarded
the "Lone Voice of Reason" ?

Mario responds:

Sorry you missed it:-))  It was earned by being consistently reasonable,
truthful and peaceful and encouraging others to be the same.  You should try it
sometime.

Arwin wrote.

What an excuse Mario; surely there is something you do and
all action does not need to be political. FYI there are Goans working abroad
E.g Freddy Fernandes and others who have taken a flight back to Goa and "moved
mountains" in the cause of their land.  Of course not to mention
several other "silent" Goans who have done things from abroad.

Mario responds:

Good for Freddy.  By the way can Freddy arrange to move the garbage off the
streets of Panjim?  I would appreciate it.

I have no way to listen to "silent" people.

Arwin wrote:

Playing with words Mario.. If you have read my views/blogspot properly I do
understand that Goan Identity is comprises of many other group religion but the
there is a Goan Thread that runs through all these groups/religions. Anyway I
think I see some progress on your side
atleast admitting that a GOAN IDENTITY.

Mario responds:

False.  There is no unique "Goan Identity".  Each one has their own.
Individuals or groups are free to identify with anything they want to.

Arwin wrote:

Yes Mario Goa is more popular because of its beaches/beauty;
not its Identity/People as appreciated by countless visitors to Goa. When
will you removed your blindfolds!!

Mario responds:

It is your blindfold that enables you to see a Goan Identity.  If you removed
it you would see that there is no such thing.

Because of your blindfold you may have missed the following post, which you
need to read very carefully:

Hi Bernado !

Its pleasant to find literary inclined Goans on the net. We can all help each
other
through our learning and sharing . Literature is the product of a very
intelligent /
powerful mind and always carries a hidden message which is hard to wisely
decipher. In fact the poetry you quoted was one of my favorite I studies
during
high school . I can still remember teacher Melba explaining the meaning to us
and
how her words shaped my life. Two other very inspirational poems I faintly
recall
are 'IF' and another by D.H Lawrence which went on to explain ' Do not make
monkeys of men , by having men manning machines' . How much very true are all
these
poems when they talk about life . You begin to realize life has not changed
over the
centuries. Humans time and again has always had this feeing of helpless ness
and no
time for theselves. , unable to break free from situations they consider as
detrimental and that's why we express ourselves through poetry and literature .

The poem 'If ' goes on to explain human nature of always saying 'IF I had
not
done this and if I only I had done that , then I could have got that' .
Always
finding excuse for not having achieved what his neighbor has . As a poetically
inclined and talented person , please keep up your talent There may one day be
a
dawn of realization that every thing in life has a time. Time for play & time
for
work , time for joy and time for sorrow. Time to love and time to hate .Time to
praise God and time to say Why God? .

What eventually would set one apart from rest of his fellow beings and makes
him
feel contented is the feeling ' Yes , I have had my time, I have had it all
but if
I have survived it all and have been victorious. My courage& fortitude made me
never give up when things went wrong ,dead wrong !? I have done it !'

If we have rights we have duties too . Rest is my right as much as it is my
right
to feed my self . Don't expect others to feed me , it is my duty to feed
myself.
If I cannot feed myself, the world views me as a parasite and I find myself
left
far behind while the world has gone ahead of me..'Time and tide waits
for no
man' ' Don't Curse the word then?'

Albert,

I have been following your exchanges with Noel. Apparently you seem to know
more about Caritas than we are led to believe.

Leaving Caritas aside for a moment, could you kindly share with us what all
you have done for the less fortunate, under-privileged, the physically or
mentally challenged or for the downtrodden in Saligao or Mapuca or elsewhere
for which you express so much concern. We all would like to learn and
emulate you.

I am reminded of President J F Kennedy who said “ask what you can do for
your country rather than what your country can do for you”.

Tiatr Academy Goa
Panjim

PRESS NOTE for favour of publication

SCHEMES OF TIATR ACADEMY GOA

Tiatr Academy, Goa (TAG) has initiated numerous schemes for the promotion of
tiatr
in Goa and out of Goa. Some of these schemes are as under:

Promotion of Award Winning Tiatrs

Kala Academy, Goa organizes Tiatr Festivals every year in Panjim only.
But
the producers and directors of award winning tiatrs have no opportunity to
stage
these award winning tiatrs in other parts of Goa. These tiatrs display high
dramatic standards but they are not shown at different parts of Goa. The reason
being these tiatrs do not attract large audience because they have mostly been
staged by amateur artistes. Therefore TAG has decided to organize a festival
of
Award winning tiatrs in Margao so that the people from Margao and surrounding
areas
may experience the presentations staged by amateur tiatr artistes in the yearly
festival organized by Kala Akademy, Goa.

Financial assistance to dramatic troupes going to Bombay/Poona

Goan Tiatr was born in Bombay. There was a time when the Tiatr culture
was
more prominent in Bombay than in Goa. Dramatic troupes from Bombay used to come
to
Goa to stage their tiatrs. In the recent years the scenario has completely
changed.
There are very few tiatr artistes left in Bombay today. New tiatr artistes also
rarely flourish in Bombay. Hence dramatic troupes from Goa go to Bombay and
stage
their shows in Bombay and Poona. Many a time staging tiatrs in Bombay/Poona by
Goan
dramatic troupes is not a financially viable proposition.

Therefore TAG will give financial support to the tune of Rs. 25,000/ -
to any
dramatic troupe going to Bombay/Poona to stage its tiatrs there provided that
at
least five shows of the same tiatr are staged during that trip. This facility
will
be made available to dramatic troupes coming to Goa from Bombay too.

Production of Tiatrs in villages

The TAG is of the opinion that the hidden singing and acting talents
among
the youths in the villages must be explored and that encouragement should be
given
to develop such talents in the villages.

In view of this TAG has formulated a scheme to promote tiatr activities
in
the villages among the youth by giving them the required financial and
technical
support. Institutions / groups / dramatic troupes / etc interested in promoting
Tiatr culture among the youth in the villages can take benefit of this scheme.
The
participating youth must be the residents of that village and their age should
not
exceed 20 years. However maximum of five senior artistes from the same village
will
be permitted to act in that tiatr.

TAG requests the tiatr writers, producers and lovers of tiatr to take advantage
of
the schemes of TAG and promote tiatr culture in Goa as well as outside Goa.
Interested persons may contact the Member Secretary of TAG on phone number
9823375530 or the President on phone no. 9822170102

THEY NEVER

A young boy (Nelito) had just gotten his driver's license. So he goes to his
his father (Niclau) and says:

Nelito: Daddu, now since I got my license, please buy me a car.

Niclau: Look son, I want to make a deal with you.

Nelito: Deal? What deal Daddu?

Niclau: "You bring your grades up from C to A  average, study your Bible a
little,  get your hair cut  and then we'll talk about the car."

Nelito thought about that for a moment and decided he'd  settle for the offer
and they agreed on it.

After about five weeks...

Niclau: "Son, I've been real proud. You brought your grades up and I've
observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I'm real disappointed you
haven't gotten your hair cut."

The young man (Nelito) paused a moment then said:

Nelito: "You know,  Daddu, I've been thinking about that, and I've noticed  in
my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long
hair, Moses had long hair and even Jesus had long hair."

Niclau:  "Did you also notice they all walked everywhere they went and never
had even bicycle through out their life?"

Yes, last year (2008), there were 318 reported deaths in road accidents.
There were in about 4,178 accidents during the year of which 318 died and
3167 were injured.
About 32% of those died are in the age group of 15-24.

Now, what are the main causes of road accidents?
- Under age drivers
-  Driving without License
- Driving with license which was fraudulently obtained by bribing the RTO
officers
- Drink and drive
- Taking/mobile phone/sleeping while driving
- Not following the traffic rules
- No protective head gears like helmets
- Improper Roads, stray cattle etc

Who are responsible?
We the drivers
Parents of underaged
The RTO dept who issue licenses by accepting bribes
Traffic police who accept bribes
What are the effects of accidents?
Deaths
Injuries, some permanent –bedridden, wheelchairs, crutches etc
Loss of jobs
Family crisis/Poverty etc etc

Well, today’s tiatr ‘EKSIDDENT’ by Tomazinho Cardozo is all about road
accidents,
(A part of the ongoing 35th Tiatr Competition staged at Kala Academy on 1st
Oct.2009)
It’s a perfect educative drama, giving clear and strong message to all -
Prevention is better than cure.

The tiatr is presented so well that  it  shot up to the highest peak on
JoeGoaUk’s  tiatrograph.

Two live motorbikes shown on stage with the bribing traffic police.

Corruptions by the RTO licensing officers also shown

The typical road side  traffic Police (Mr.Dyneshwar Morajkar) was at his best.
The accident victim (Mathias Mascarenhas), handicapped/wheel chaired
also deserve full marks.

And the star of the show, the youngest tiatrist (must be around 5 years old)
Master Karan Bhagkar who acted so well, so naturally that he won the hearts
of the audience.

Besides the above two, there were other non-Christian actors too viz.
Shivanand Naik (motor cyclist/Road/Foreigner- Lady)  and Tukaram Naik as
Reporter.

All songs (about 12) rendered by the professional tiatrist like Sharon/Wilson,
Socoro de St.cruz and his daughter Sonia, Ben Evangelisto and Sheik Amir.
Besides, Maria Cardozo, her brother Eugene Cardozo, Joao and his brother
Tomazinho Cardozo.

Solo by Sonia Fernandes and Maria Cardozo also deserve full marks.

The main actors were Irene Cardozo (Mother), Selza Lopes (daughter-in-law),
Joyslyn Misquita (Daughter), Larisa Fernades (Daughter-in-law),
Joy Fernandes (Son), Sheik Amir (drunkard) Eugene and Assis Cardozo (Priests).

What’s in a name? In a lighter vein, I was just wondering what would have
been the future of India’s ‘first family’ had Indira married say a Firoze

enjoyed the same adulation, power and aura that they command today?

Just a thought.

Eric Pinto believes
Nehru was only eleven when he was sent to Harrow. He was about twenty three
when he returned home again. It is a very upper-class tradition to 'take the
arm' of your host's spouse, with a guest reciprocating, and those are the
pictures we see of these very civilized humans on the grounds of the Viceroy's
Palace, in New Delhi. I believe Indira was thrilled when she spent an evening
on Reagan's arm, on the White House lawn ! We were treated to photographs.

I have, in the past, alluded to the reason why both, Jawahar and Edwina,
simply could not have had an 'intimate relationship'. It was not my intention
tittilate, much as two recent biographers of Edwina M. also wanted to set the
record straight. In the same vein, I believe Barad is biologically incapable of
handling a 'straight record', going by the gist of his familiar lunar
pronouncements, from where he shares a stage with our friend in Macao.
For more, you can google, using our subject names, and certain 'key' words I
do not care to repeat. eric.

I only can hope it is as eric believes.

That Cardinal was elevated to the post when the Englishman, Archbishop Roberts,
quit at the age of fifty, after telling Rome publicly that only an Indian could
occupy Wodehouse Road in an inndependent India. The true 'villain' of
Bernard's sad piece is Frank Moraes. He and Nehru were classmates at Cambridge,
and had remained lifelong friends. Moraes writes that Nehru summoned him to his
office for a final signal to proceed, and he conveyed it firmly, even as Menon
stood by a window and refused to acknowledge him.
I still own the 1965 Moraes biography. eric.

Ashley, I'll put you in touch with the author ,
and he'll probably be able to send it across via mail order.

What I find works best for buying books within India is either VPP
(value payee post/parcel, you pay the postman on delivery) or send in
a demand draft/money order and the author/publisher can send you the
book at cost + postage.

Postage rates (including registered post) are pretty reasonable for
books within India. FN

On 3rd October, a day after Gandhi Jayanti, whilst it was pouring
tears of sorrow in Canacona village due to flash floods, Goa Chief
Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat on his return from there that night, chose
to chill out at a dance organized by Panaji’s Clube Vasco da Gama for

Thanks to friends from Bombaim who have informed me that it was a particular
Cardinal of Bombay who had the last word on the invasion of Goa on the dark day

it is believed was a confidant of Nehru who is alleged to have had various

Surely we understand that migrations happens and will happen.

But we need to appreciate at least 1 key fact i.e. Most of the migrants are
in the process of of integrating into the local hosts
culture/customs/language; in Goa its the opposite, due its small
size/population. The answer is controlled migration with respect to
the unique interests/characteristics of the specifics area.

What ails Indian Sports?

Is it a curse or a mystery ? A nation in excess of 100 Crore people, fail to
produce great champions, not that we lack in talent, but in the end it all
boils
down to the simmering residue of administration, which like our politicians
lack
foresight and grit determination and above all, love and passion for sports. I
am
sure there is no lack of talent in our country but what we lack are dedicated
administrators who have passion for sports and sports only.

Right from my childhood, I loved sports and followed it through what ever
medium
that I could lay my hands on, magazines, news papers and radio, I was
fascinated by
the world of sports, even though the coverage was very limited, from those days
till
today, Indian sports has remained stagnant, except for a few sparks here and
there,
like the five set quarter finals between Vijay Amritraj and Bjorn Borg at
Wimbledon,
The great Prakash Padukone winning the all England badminton, world conquering
Mike
Ferreira and Geet Sethi. Leander Paes taking the fight to Andre Agassi, or
Sania
Mirza, beating world No. 3 Russian Slutlana Kuznetsova, Bindra and the latest
boxing stars and among them all, the only one who looks to be the most
consistence,
Saina Nehwal and ofcourse, the king of chess Vishwanathan Anand, apart from
these,
what do we have to boast about, in the international arena ?

These few twinkling stars who have brought laurels to our Country, I am sure it
was
only their personal will and dedication, that they have come up and no credit
to the
administrators, as the biblical quote says "harvest is plentiful but the
labourers
are few," I am sure if we apply ourselves and go on a talent hunt , we will
come
across a lot of raw talent, they may not be the Federers, Bolts, Ronaldos or
Grafs
but with proper incentives and application we could be there competing with the
best
and in due time even surprise us with glory.

First and foremost, what we lack is the structure at school levels, in schools
we
are after the children to only study, no matter what their mental capacity is,
we
sometimes even push them over the edge, with so much pressure to perform to get
into
professional colleges our children have to forfeit their interest in sports, so
that
they don't let their home people down, in most of the top sporting countries
sports
is a lucrative profession, where the pay is as good as any if not better, so
much
so, that even schools see that deserving students get scholarships, so those
students who excel in sports have well regulated grades to achieve (minimum) in
studies so that they can dedicate more time to sports, in India it's the
opposite,
only once you are finished with all your studies, the free time is dedicated to
sports, so how can we excel in sports.

Secondly what is the fate of our sports men and women, apart from the over paid
cricketers, If a sports person of the caliber of PT Usha is not given the
respect
and the facilities that she so richly and rightly deserves, how will the
youngsters
be motivated ? If we get see most of our sporting heroes shedding tears every
now
and then on national television because of the step-motherly treatment that
they
have received from the authorities, who will want to be a sports person ?

Last but not the least, where do our sports men and women stand financially and

Are

facilities are provided not only to the upcoming sports personalities but also
to
the laurel winning professionals of yester years, only then will our youngsters
realize that sports can give them the life that they would like to have and
strive
to give their best and only then will we excel in sports.

I am not sure if cricket is a boon or a curse to Indian sports, after all the
hype
it has, what has it given India, a lone world cup, and a 20-20 world cup and
lot of
heart-aches year after year with more losses and less wins, if only all the
money
was rightly used to develop and enhance other sports India would be much better
off
in world sports today.

In India politics in sports is a "giant combo" that towers over, all the rest
of the
evil
