My initial reaction (and I could be wrong) is religious persecution is often actively state sponsored (albeit behind the scenes). Re: [Goanet] Assam Erupts
Since Goan migration (for reasons of economic adversity) has been brought up, once again, a few questions may be pertinent: 1: does a country (say India) have the right to protect its borders? 2: does the sudden and uncontrolled influx of 'economic refugees' place an unreasonable burden on the recipient country and its systems resources? 3: is structured (legal) immigration different from non-structured (non-legal) immigration? 4: do we believe that Goans (in even marginally significant numbers) have migrated illegally to other places for economic reasons? 5: could we agree that Orange juice looks, tastes and is different from Apple juice? A thought for those who might wish to think: WHY would Goans have to (even) Legally migrate to other countries IF their gaum was left to them and not perennially ripped off. jc On Jul 29, 2012, at 8:21 AM, Frederick FN Noronha fredericknoro...@gmail.com wrote: So religious persecution is a good enough reason, but economic adversity is not? [2] Those who are generally referred to as the state - are political power-hoggers who will play any religious card that suits their political i.e. financial goals. [3] The 'state' might also be the cause of economic adversity by way of selective distribution of employment opportunities as well as by way of economic blockade. BTW: the only reason why the circa 1955 blockade of Goa did not cause significant hardships to Goans is because Portugal used TAIP and other air-transport to fly in goods into Goa. That amche Goemcar negociantes found a method of 'reexporting' some of those goods overland to non-Goa destinations is another matter. on a rather warm day off from work (:-) after a busy week end. jc

Global Goemkars, I am proud to have many non Goan friends who care about our Goa , who support and Participate our WORLD GOA DAY celebrations. One of those Friends is Cyrus Todiwala - Here is his message to Goans world wide: rene MESSAGE 00 WORLD GOA DAY is fast approaching and once again a year has almost gone by as though magically and so has most of 2012 which has been one fantastic year for Britain. We have seen some great developments for securing the future of Real Goan cuisine in Goa with the Mascarenhas pair Odette and Joe have set the ball rolling taking into their group the support of great Goan chefs and cooks such as my past colleague Cruz Urbano Rego, not to forget that I have also worked with Joe and Odette many years ago. It is time to bring and swing Goan and Portuguese Goan cuisine back onto the great culinary map of India but more so to Goa itself and to the world at large 2012 has been an awesome year for us here in London at Cafe Spice Namaste, From the opening of our new restaurant at the New Hilton near terminal five to us having the privilege of cooking for Her Majesty's first official Diamond Jubilee luncheon, to now the Olympics coming in this week to the opening of our new Cafe in the Park and onto World Goa Day where we hope to have a fabulous Goan choice on the menu. May I urge you all to celebrate the great heritage of Goan cuisine and to do all you can to promote it as much as is possible. Bring forth some family secrets, get the grandmas and grand aunts to teach the youngsters and just bring in the true feel of SUSEGADO as my friend Armando always says……it is a truly misunderstood word. Re: [Goanet] Chilli used by Indian army in weaponry is hot property for poor farmers
Years ago in Palenque, Mexico. I met an Australian who told me that they were growing all kinds of mangoes, and that essentially we should not bother about thinking Goan mangoes were the best. The same with some other fruits. Now, here we have this chilli victory by them. In understand the rapaciousness, although many may see it as simply an advantage to the one who aims the hardest. But there is something to be said in this day age on a few fronts: 1. For whatever reason, we take our time, are often unaware how the world sees things--even though we want a piece of the pie. 2. Its quite amazing that people in the field/ grassroots/ entrepreneurs are rarely fed information by Govt Bodies who one would think follows trends, research, and factor India's dynamic strengths with that of/ quality of what is produced by other countries. 3. Perhaps our concerns are simply different. I guess the company either simply grew the chilli in Australia, or altered it and gave it the name Butch T. If its the same chilli as in Assam, then I would think its a lie, or whatever its called in such situations. Was the award for a chilli sauce or just the chilli pepper? + venantius j pinto Message: 1 Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2012 19:38:24 +0100 From: Gabe Menezes gabe.mene...@gmail.com Subject: [Goanet] Chilli used by Indian army in weaponry is hot property forpoor farmers (DEL) While business is booming, the latest edition of the Guinness Book of Records brought a cruel blow to Assam, when bhut jolokia was usurped as the hottest chilli by an Australian upstart, the Trinidad Scorpion Butch Thttp://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-1/hottest-chili/.
