The people and specially the generation next, the female voters have all given the AAP a resounding victory., It has conveniently demolished for once, decisively that big names, influence and money and muscle power cannot tilt the balance .The BJP or the Congress have lost their calculations badly and all their projections have gone awry, so much so the Congress V.P .had to humbly admit that a century old NMational and historical party colapse of the monolith will be rebuild t on the experiences of AAP, He has been honest enough to give credit where it is due. Kejrival is like the Goliath in the defeat of Sheila Dixitt, who was dreaming of 4th term in office AAP had admitted of having no truck with either of National parties, Congress cannot see eye to eye with BJP and they did not want BJP to ascend the throne in Delhi nor did they want another debacle of humiliation in fresh , uncertain elections The people have through the opinion poll have given the mandate to try the formation of Govt. with the unconditional support of the Congress. They were already accused of only being best at protesting and shying away from governance. To carry out the reforms promised and expected, the support of Congress is vital. Congress is expected to pull the rug sooner than later. It is then the voters will understand their political chicanery and realise why AAPwas reluctant to take their support The AAP has to thread cautiously and settle down and honestly attempt to deliver their promises. There are many implications in fulfilling the wishes of the people and what has not been delivered for the past many years cannot be done so fast. The bureaucracy owing allegiance to the past Congress party has to be tackled for the hindrances they can cause and have to be dealt firmly and with tact People and voters will watch closely their performance as the expectations are high, but they should be given enough time to settle down. A Goan College Choir is Born BY LES MENEZES In April 2012, the film producer of "Mother Teresa", a film to be shot in Goa, asked Kala Academy if they could provide a choir to sing "Lead Kindly Light". This hymn, taught to Mahatma Gandhi by the Englishman C.F. Andrews, became his favourite and, later, Mother Teresa's too. The choir was hurriedly brought together by Jean Kalgutkar and Valerie Vaz. However, the shooting was cancelled. But the Choir did not die: the students from various colleges in Goa were fired with the idea of forming a College Choir. Nine months later, in December 2012, the College Choir of Kala Academy came into being through the innovative nurturing of Jean Kalgutkar, the Choir teacher at Kala Academy, and the encouragement coupled with a generous grant from Vishnu Wagh, Chairman of Kala Academy. The Choir immediately established itself by leaving large memorable footprints in Goa. Greatly assisted by Elvina Fernandes and Ashley do Rego it participated in the HELP Carol Competition, the Kala Academy Carol Festival, the Carmelite Monastery (Margao) Christmas Concert Concert and the Inauguration of the Mermaid. All four events in two weeks in December 2012! Their exuberant enthusiasm was irresiisitble. 2013 saw them take significant strides, featuring in the Kala Academy Annual Day in April and The Kala Academy Founder’s Day, 19 August. And now they stand on the threshold of their debut concert on January 4, 2014 at Kala Academy with a full concert featuring "Lead Kindly Light", the hymn that fostered the genesis of the choir followed by "Poili Santa Kurusachi Kuru", a Konkani Invocation arranged by Victor Paranjoti and re-arranged by Jean Karlgutkar. A German 14th Century Round "Personent Hodie" accompanied by two violins brings the opening section to a close. The challenge of A Capella singing is taken up in four songs spanning the Renaissance and Baroque periods: "Gloria Patri" by Giovani Palestrina (1525-1594), "Sing We and Chant It", a madrigal by Thomas Morley (1557-1603), "De Profundis" by Henry Purcel (1658-1695) from Ancient Hymns and Canticles, "O Sacred Head" from the St. Mathew Passion by J.S. Bach (1655-1750). A Capella singing is particularly difficult and a test of any choir because the voices harmonise without any accompaniment to guide them and keep them in perfect pitch. Jumping centuries and switching styles, they vary the pace, tone and mood with: "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" written in the style of a Bach Chorale; "Drink to me only", a traditional love song; "Perhaps Love" written by John Denver and popularized by him and Placido Domingo; the ever popular "Home on the Range"; and, a Konkani Boat Song arranged by Victor Paranjoti. The concert comes to a close with a Dravidian Dithyramb, a Greek song of praise based on a Carnatic rag by Victor Paranjoti. The members of the Choir are a multi-college and multi-discipline group coming together once a week united in their music making to rehearse with great zeal and enthusiasm. Their Debut Concert on 4th January, 2014 at Kala Academy will showcase their varied talents finding one voice. Its a step in the right direction with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal deciding that he and his Ministers will neither use the red beacon nor those police escort jeeps. On March 9th last year after his much publicized swearing in ceremony on SAG grounds at Campal, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had similarly announced that he would never ever use those police escort jeeps. But that promise like most of his other tall promises were meant to be broken with Manohar Parrikar in a U turn soon deciding to use two police escort jeeps besides a huge posse of policemen guarding his official and private residences. All these policemen could have instead been deployed on the streets of Goa to curb the very high levels of crime that the State is currently engulfed in with even the ruling party MLA Vishnu Wagh recently manhandled and his vehicle damaged in a dastardly attack allegedly masterminded by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar himself. There is no point faking to be an Aam Aadmi, as deeds speak louder than words. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should bury his ego and shun his very high levels of arrogance by emulating Arvind Kejriwal in ensuring that he along with his ministers besides other government officials also stop flashing the red beacon.
