[Goanet] SMRITI IRANI: A MODI-FIED LEADER?

2014-05-28 Thread Aires Rodrigues
India’s newly anointed Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani
besides being the youngest in the 45 member Narendra Modi Ministerial team
is perhaps also the least educated being a non-graduate. The silver lining
however for 38 year old Smriti Irani is that her name does not figure in
that hall of shame of those 30% of the new Council of Ministers who have
criminal cases pending against them.

It may be argued that a degree is not all that important. But in today’s
day and times a sound academic foundation is imperative to invigorate the
all important department of Human Resource Development. Only Narendra Modi
would know as to why he opted for an under educated and that too a defeated
candidate over other much more highly qualified, experienced and very
resourceful persons amongst his elected MPs.

As per Smriti Irani’s affidavit filed on 16th April at the recent Lok Sabha
elections her total income for the financial year 2012-13 was a mere Rs
3,68,970 while that of her husband Zubin was Rs 2,06,960. She has however
shown her assets at Rs 1,36,18,621 besides her immovable assets with a
current market value as Rs 2,78,80,000 which includes a

1750 sq ft house at Tivim in Goa which she bought for Rs 30 lacs in 2008
and also spent another Rs 20,28,604 on its further renovation.

Smriti Irani who was the finalist at the beauty pageant Femina Miss India
1998 before taking to modeling worked as a waitress at McDonald’s.

Interestingly Smriti Irani who joined the BJP in 2003 had in December 2004
threatened to fast unto death until then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra
Modi resigned while blaming him for BJP's then electoral losses. From 2004
to 2014 the actress turned politician has gone a

long way. What a glamorous Parivartan indeed!

[Goanet] Story Reading Competition news

2014-05-28 Thread Dalgado KonknniAkademi
Dear Editor,

Dalgado Konknni Akademi had organised Konkani Story Reading Competition at
Canacona on 25th May 2014. News report of the same is attached below. We
kindly request you to give publicity to the same. Photos of DKA officials
along with prize winners and participants are attached herewith.

We await your cooperation.

*Enthusiastic Response for DKA’s Story Reading Competition *

With an aim to inculcate the love of Konknni amongst the youngsters and
cultivate reading habits, Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) organized Konknni
Story Reading Competition on 25th May, 2014 at the Parish Hall of St.
Theresa of Jesus Church, Chavdi, Canacona, Goa. More than 25 eager and
enthusiastic participants took part in the competition and the manner in
which they did their presentations spoke volumes of their preparations and
seriousness.

In the keenly contested competition, Monna Sitija Rodrigues stood first and
received a cash award of Rs. 2000/- while Vania Carvalho bagged the second
prize of Rs. 1500/- and the third prize of Rs. 1000/- was awarded to
Jessie Falcao. Angelica Joan Gracias and Michelle Rebello received
consolation prizes of Rs. 500/- each respectively. Certificates were also
presented to all the prize winners and the participants.

Earlier, the competition was declared open by lighting the traditional lamp
in the presence of the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Sucorro Colaco,
renowned tiatrist and Konknni writer, R. B. S. Komarpant, DKA President
Premanand A Lotlikar, DKA Secretary Vincy Quadros and DKA Treasurer Walter
Menezes.

In his welcome address, DKA Treasurer Walter Menezes said that rather than
restrict itself to the major cities of Panaji and Margao, the time had come
for the academy to expand the scope of its activities to the villages of
Goa and informed that the Story Reading Competition held in Canacona was a
step in this direction.

Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Sucorro expressed happiness that such a competition
was being held in Canacona and urged everyone to dedicate themselves to
uplift the Konknni language.

DKA President Premanand A Lotlikar in his address spoke of the inherent
dangers as our beaches - and economic activities along the coast – were
being taken over by non-Goans and the important role we all had to play to
safeguard our unique Gõykarponn through Konknni.

DKA Secretary Vincy Quadros briefly explained the objectives and the
various schemes of the academy and called upon the participants to take
advantage of the same. He highlighted the importance of reading and said we
can take Konknni forward if use it in our day-to-day life. He also agreed
in principle to organize a similar activity in Agonda when a request was
made in this regard during the open session before the prize distribution
ceremony.

Book exhibition cum sale was also held for the benefit of the participants.

R. B. S. Komarpant, Pandharinath Lotlikar and Brenda Menezes were the
members of the jury for the competition. Vassalo Carvalho compered the
programme and Albert Jaques delivered the vote of thanks.

[Goanet] BJP - GODFATHERS of CHRISTIANS

2014-05-28 Thread jm
Hindus in India have obviously no need to fear whether the political party
in power is BJP or Congress……..it is the Muslims Christians who need to
fear the RSS remote controlled BJP led government…but Muslims in India
are in a strong position because of the financial logistical moral economic
political support from Pakistan Saudi Arabia and their numerical strength
of 180 million population in India..whereas Christians in India are in
a weak position because they don’t have any International Godfathers and
since Christians in India are numerically less in numbers and scattered in
tiny numbers across India that makes them highly vulnerable to threats
attacks from rss vhp bajrangdal shivsena durgavahini ramasene slumlords
buildersmafia landencroachers slumdwellers landmafia………making matters worse
is the genetic problems of Christians in India of Alcoholism infighting
jealousy gossiping and grabbing each others ancestral propertiesunder
such circumstances what is the future of Christians in India ?.

America is a country where the killer of a Hindu is prosecuted as
aggressively as the killer of a Christian, where the police are required to
give equal protection to ordinary citizens, whether they worship Jesus,
Allah or Shiva. If that reminds you of India, perhaps you need a few more
visits to your psychiatrist……Churches in Western countries register
barely 20 percent attendance even on Sundays. The decline of
Christianity in western countries began with the separation of the church
and the state by the politicians and the secularization of the church in
the 1960s by the Clergy…….the secularization of the church resulted in
confusion corruption apostasy in the church……….today Christianity is the
worlds weakest religion.

6000 cctv cameras are going to be installed all over bombay. it would
be interesting to see whether the bombay police would be interested in
installing some of those cameras near openspaces mangroves collectorslands
forestlands saltpanlands playgrounds gardens in order to deter slumlords
buildersmafia illegal migrants from encroaching lands.

All the previous Congress regimes at the centre have sinked a large amount
of direct/indirect taxes, wealth tax, corporate taxes, customs duty, import
duties, etc collected from Bombay for the benefit of the huge populations
of the 4 Bimaru states i.e. UttarPradesh Bihar Rajasthan MadhyaPradesh……now
what will the new BJP Prime Minister Narendra Modi do………will he his
cabinet do what their predecessors have been doing……..or will he his
cabinet……strictly enforce two child policy in these four bimaru
overpopulated states and improve the infrastructure industries
manufacturing job-opportunities in these 4 bimaru states ?.

Without Bombay………Maharashtra would have also been a Bimaru state……… IF
Bombay is separated from Maharashtra the condition of Maharashtra will
become worse than UP Bihar. An important feature of Maharashtra 's
economy is its pathetic dependence on Bombay. The Bombay region accounts
for 75 per cent of the industrial activity in Maharashtra and nearly 65 per
cent of the factory/office workers in the State………It is because of Bombay
that Maharashtra appears to be India's most urbanished and industrially
advanced State………But excluding Bombay, even now, Maharashtra is not merely
as backward as any other state in India but in certain respects indeed more
backward than many other less industrialized states of the country……..The
infrastructure of the economy of rural Maharashtra is not much developed,
Villages in Maharashtra generally lack adequate means of transport and
communication……..Particularly road mileage in Maharashtra is found woefully
inadequate when compared to that in many less industrialized states in
India………Political parties like Congress NCP ShivSena BJP in Maharashtra
are only interested in real estate in the 4500 sq km bombay metropolitan
region and don’t have any agenda to improve infrastructure trade exports
industries manufacturing job-opportunities in the rural backward
districts of Maharashtradue to which the marathi manoos from the rural
backward districts of maharashtra keeps migrating into the bombay region
for better job opportunities.

There are some Christian couples in India who in-spite of having Christian
names baptized their children with Hindu names for reasons best known to
them………..The Jain community in India have a system where the wealthy jains
provide some support to poor jains for starting up businesses shops trading
manufacturing etc and there is also a very strong business network among
the Jains all of which has resulted in the Jain community becoming the
richest community in India……..the only sad part is the Jain community are
donating tons of money to groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which is
involved in anti-christian anti-muslim activities all over India.

The Modi Sarkar will not be able to bring down inflation unless it brings
down the price of

[Goanet] When will Goans wake-up By Bosco Vaz

2014-05-28 Thread roger dsouza
When will Goans wake-up

*By Bosco Vaz (Herald - People's Edit)*

A rule exists in Goa that if there is 100 sq metre land and you want
to construct a building you can build only on 40 sq metres and leave 60
metres as open space. When a builder prepares to build a building a clear
plan is placed before the authorities. This plan is approved by the concern
authority and a building is constructed. A rosy building is drawn before
the public who are enticed to buy the same. Our Goans have one habit and
that is they only look at the flat which is the best and they do not give
much attention to other things such as enough empty space , parking space
etc. Today if we glance at the map of Mapuca in reality and in which ever
directions you want to go one finds that the builder has built in 100
percent of the land and there is no inch of land left to park even a cycle
etc. No one either the builder nor the occupants are bothered to form a co
operative society and many of them do not even stay in the flat for a
single day. In some cases in Mapuca buildings are built in steep slope that
one cannot even walk steadily. Most of the cases occupancy certificate is
given even without checking the building. Some builders collect deposit
money from flat owners in view of forming a society for which additional
amount is also collected and neither the society is formed nor the deposit
money given back for years together and many times after a period of
ten-fifteen years the builder forcibly takes more deposits. Goans are
really sucegad people. They will grumble and grumble and curse the builder
but they will not approach the district or state consumer's court or any
civil court because Goans have a phobia, that is it takes lot of time
to fight a case in the court and so they prefer to make the builder rich.

98 % of buildings in Mapuca have no society for more than 30 years and some
of the buildings are gone so old and no one bothers to repair them as they
have no society who will do the job. 98% of the flat owners in Mapuca use
the road

to park their cars. How did the Mapuca Municipality issue
occupancy certificate or how did Town Planning department or any other
department give the licences. I myself do not know. As long as Goans and
with them now the non-Goans too go sucegad, Mapuca town will look like a
bus repairing workshop because where people have to park their vehicles
shopkeepers use their force and keep their things even after the High Court
has passed an order that footpaths should be left open.It is high time Govt
of Goa should make it compulsory that before the occupancy certificate is
issued the buyer along with the Municipality officers should have joint
inspection of the building at least three times before occupancy
certificate and occupancy certificate should proceed with no objection
certificate from each flat owner.

[Goanet] Gujarat-based Catholic priest spreading religious discontent: Parrikar

2014-05-28 Thread Mayabhushan
Panaji, May 28 (IANS): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday
accused Gujarat-based Catholic priest and human rights activist Father
Cedric Prakash of trying to spread religious and social discontent based on
falsehoods in Goa before the general election.

Equating the priest with controversial Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik,
Parrikar, justifying police action against Facebooker Devu Chodankar
following his anti-Narendra Modi posts, said action should have been taken
against Prakash too.

Father Cedric Prakash has said much more serious things which were not
true, Parrikar said, while addressing a press conference here

Ahmedabad-based Prakash, a Jesuit priest, made a whirlwind tour of Goa with
the support of the Roman Catholic Church in Goa, during which he accused
Modi of religious intolerance and attacked the Gujarat model of governance.

He further alleged that in Gujarat every one lived in fear.

The voice of the media has been throttled and muzzled. People in Gujarat
are living in fear. IAS officers are living in fear. The lives of their
families have been ruined, Prakash claimed at a meeting at the Grace
Church hall in Margao, in south Goa March 20, a few weeks before Goa went
to polls.

Parrikar also said that he despised those who used religion for politics
and clubbed both Prakash, as well as Muthalik, head of the notorious
right-wing Sri Rama Sene, in the same bracket. Muthalik has often triggered
controversy in the past by attacking patrons of pubs in Mangalore for
adopting Western culture, and exhorting Hindus to arm themselves with
swords.

I count Father Cedric and Pramod Muthalik as the same. People who use
religion as a tool for electioneering are dangerous, said Parrikar, whose
government is being accused by the opposition as well as civil society of
carrying out a witch hunt against Chodankar.

In Goa, where the Catholics account for nearly one-third of the population,
Prakash's whirlwind pre-election lecture tour and a circular by the Church
imploring voters to cast ballots in favour of a secular candidate did dent
the BJP vote tally, even though the party managed to win both the seats
from the state in the Lok Sabha election.

Don Bosco Oratory who had only the previous week lost narrowly to
AVC in the semi finals of the KIFF League, showed just why they are one of the
most feared teams among the Indian Community when they took complete control of
the match right from the start.  Man of the match and the tournament’s highest
scorer young Nikhil D’souza opened Don Bosco’s account when he found himself in
the right place to slot home from close range in a goalmouth melee.  He soon
added to his tally and Don Bosco Oratory went into the lemon break comfortably
leading 2-0.

Hard working Sidney of AVC however gave a tiny glimmer of hope to
his team and supporters when he scored off  a direct free kick from just
outside
the penalty area and it seemed that AVC could still make a game of it.  Nikhil
however had other ideas and completed his hat-trick after going past two AVC
defenders.  Agnelo another young and talented Don Bosco lad than took control
and ably supported by Loyed, Michael and Steven scored three more past the
hapless AVC defense.  Nikhil though had the final say when in the dying moments
he scored his fourth to completely whitewash the opponents.  The match was ably
officiated by IFRA officials Sarto Baptista in the centre with support of Jan
Rodrigues and Pascoal Fernandes on the lines.

In his welcome address after the final whistle, G.O.A President
Raymond D’Sa welcomed the chief guest Mr. Ajay Sinha the Country Manager of Air

ticket for the tournament.  He also thanked KIFF President Mr. Fidelis

support in making the tournament a grand success.  He had a special word of
appreciation for Mr. Gasper Almeida of Goa Word.com, IndiansinKuwait and the
print media including Mr. Francis Fernandes of Arab Times for the press
publicity.

Mr. Ajay Sinha in his brief speech thanked the organizers for
inviting him and said he would always support the community in the best way he
