[Goanet] SMILE…………………… IT’S WEEKEND (16/10/2014)
SMILE…… IT’S WEEKEND (16/10/2014) NOTHING OF…….. A married couple (Digu Rozu) was in a terrible accident where the woman's (Rozu’s) face was severely burned. The doctor told the husband (Digu) that they couldn't graft any skin from her body because she is too skinny. So Digu offered to donate some of his own skin. However, the only skin on his body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come from his buttocks. Digu and Rozu mutually agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and requested that the doctor also honour their secret. After all, this was a very delicate matter. After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the Rozu's new beauty.. She looked more beautiful than she ever had before! All her friends and relatives just went on and on about her youthful beauty! One fine day, Rozu was alone with her husband (Digu), and she was overcome with emotion at his sacrifice:- Rozu: Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. There is no way I could ever repay you. Digu: My darling, please think nothing of it. I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek. Cajetan de Sanvordem Kuwait.
[Goanet] GFDO Press Statement
October 15, 2014 GFDO Press Statement GFDO said that all Goans should now take a reality check on the loyalties of their Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who at a recent election meeting at Sindhudurg with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, openly and shockingly proclaimed to the people of Sindhudurg that Mopa Airport would specifically cater to the progress of Sindhudurg , bringing with it large scale tourism development for the Maharashtrian Konkan region. Goans should now clearly understand that the Mopa Airport as conceptualised and planned by Manohar Parrikar, is not only a land scam of unspeakably huge magnitude, but has also been put in place keeping the interests of Maharashtra in mind, at the cost of poor Goan farmers, the Goan tourism industry in particular and the Goan economy in general. It is clear that Goa’s Chief Minister is functioning under the delusion that he is actually Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and that he believes that Maharashtra’s progress and development should be pushed through and promoted even at the cost of Goa’s people, resources, interests and infrastructure. This is a wake up call for all right thinking Goans, to question Manohar Parrikar as to the reason why he thinks the wellbeing of a neighbouring state comes before the interests of the state and the people of Goa who elected him into power with a clear majority. There are no more excuses left. This government, led by Manohar Parrikar has been stripped of all pretences and the truth lies exposed. This is a clarion call from GFDO to all Goans to unite and fight for our very survival against the nefarious plans of our own government. Many years ago, Goans came out clearly on the side of statehood. Don’t allow the BJP government to surreptitiously transform Goa into a small and insignificant district of Maharashtra, even as the state government and Manohar Parrikar hoodwink the people of Goa by going through the motions of safeguarding Goa’s land and identity by pretending to push the Special Status cause at the Centre. [Goanet] Where taps run near dry
Where taps run near dry TNN | Oct 15, 2014, 12.29 AM IST Isidore Domnick Mendes It's an irony that Batim, a lush green village, a mere 11km from Panaji, housing nearly 4,000 residents across seven vaddos, and blessed with water bodies—from a majestic lake dating to the Kadamba era to a hot water spring at Maina vaddo—has a problem with tapped potable water. In almost all the vaddos the PWD-supplied water is for not more than an hour and comes only between 6.30am and 7:30am. It's a paradox. We have paddy fields, salt pans, coconut palms and hills, but no regular tapped water supply, says Joe Menezes of Gaunkar waddo. Every year, things come to a head in the hot summer months as the wells in the village dry up and the water level in the lake shrinks. April and May are a nightmare period for us. The government and the panchayat have to provide us succor from this year-round water scarcity, says Fatima Vaz of Sovastkai vaddo. The issue is most acute for the 12 houses near the Holy Cross Chapel at Maina vaddo. The public tap was disconnected 20 years ago and residents have to rely on the well adjacent to the chapel or on tankers that come on alternate days. For years now we are being deprived of tap water. It is the most difficult and intricate phase of our existence in the village. And till date nothing is being done to restore water supply after the public tap was removed, says Maria Pereirra, a senior citizen. In the rest of the village there's also the issue of illegal pumping of water, says Daniel Fernandes of Chinel Bhatt, This puts tremendous strain on the natural water sources we have. Authorities have to act stringently against unscrupulous elements who are robbing the village of precious water. As the village grapples with the water supply problem, the significance of wells cannot be undermined. The wells are still doing a priceless, commendable job of fulfilling the water needs of the village. The well is very much in use at the parish church. The traditional sources of water have to be protected and preserved to face the water challenges in modern times, says Fr Saluzinho Fernandes, parish priest, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Local authorities say a plan to extend the Selaulim dam's pipeline to the village was shelved after the same was diverted to the Bambolim plateau because of its Goa Medical College (GMC). With no water tank of its own, Batim has to share its meagre water supply with nearby Agasaim and Pilar villages. Sarpanch Manulina Dias says, Many of the pipelines in the village have become very weak because of corrosion. Authorities, including our MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh, are aware of the grave situation. But till date no concrete or substantial measure has been taken to solve the problem. Batim is craving a durable solution to its water supply problem. St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh is optimistic that the underground pipeline from Selaulim dam is going to be the remedy. The water scarcity problem will very soon become history for Batim. Within 25 days the underground pipeline from Selaulim dam, whose capacity is estimated to be 4-5mld of water, is expected to be complete. This augmented supply will go a long way in tackling the water crisis of not only Batim but the two adjacent villages of Goa Velha and Agasaim too. I am conscious of the fact that Batim has suffered a lot due to the insufficient water supply from the Opa line. The present state government is spending 85lakh on the underground water pipeline project and one of the highlights of the work is that the pipeline will be under the river between Cortalim and Agasaim. Problem Problem…….. Road Maintenance : Many of the roads in the village have worn down. The roads need to be hotmixed on priority , say locals . Motorists find it tough negotiating these roads during monsoons. Motorists have been risking life and death due to bad conditions of the road in Batim. Power :Frequent power cuts occur mostly in the nights between 8-10 pm. The situation is so bad that work and household chores taken up by the residents during late evening is severely affected. Protection of lake : The Batim lake attracts winged visitors from Siberia between November and January every year .Birds lover and villagers feel a railing wall should be build immediately to protect the water body .

[Goanet] Fwd: Lee Siegel's book on Abbe Faria etc
Dear Goanetters and Goa Book Club members As some of you may know, Prof Lee Siegel, Professor of Religion at the University of Hawaii, wrote a book on Indian hypnosis including Abbe Faria,, which has just been published by the prestigious University of Chicago Press and is available in paperback from Amazon India for Rs. 761.00. Prof Siegel was in Goa a while back to do research for the book and imagined Abbe Faria as a child in the late 18th century. He read up on everything written by the Abbe and on him. He met everyone who had done any work on him and even pretended to be a hypnotist himself giving two bogus performances at the Casa da Moeda and at the Internationa Centre. with the help of a co-conspirator. The result is an intriguing, informative and hilarious account that if nothing else, will make the Abbe better known among those who had never heard of him. Most of the section on the Abbe can be read online through the link below Luis http://books.google.co.in/books?id=nC-OBAAAQBAJprintsec=frontcoverdq#v= onepageqf=false

[Goanet] Mahabaleshwar Sail book launch at GALF 2014
Oxford University Press's new translation of award-winning Konkani writer and novelist Mahabaleshwar Sail's ARANYAKAND (translated by Vidya Pai) will be launched at the Inaugural ceremony of Goa Arts + Literature Festival 2014 on December 4. ARANYAKAND is the latest volume in an acclaimed series of translations edited by Mini Krishnan (who will be attending GALF 2014 as a delegate). See review of previous titles from Outlook Mag last month below. All the novellas in the series, and many other hard-to-find Oxford University Press titles will be available at GALF in the first-ever OUP pop-up bookstall. Register for GALF here: gpaartlitfest.com --- http://www.outlookindia.com/article/A-Fantastic-Turn-Towards-The-End/291731 A Fantastic Turn Towards The End Translations of fiction are always something to look forward to: for they can mean encounters with new images, metaphors and sensibilities. The work of English translation from Indian languages assumes an added political significance at a time when large numbers of Indians can read only in English and enjoy only a colloquial hold over Indian languages. The institutional consequences of the rise of a dominant class of deracinated Indians are of course yet to be properly understood. In this situation, one feels especially grateful for the quiet determination and diligent scholarship with which Mini Krishnan, editor of the recently launched Oxford Novellas series, and her colleagues elsewhere, have sought to make literary texts in bhashas available in English over the last many years. The first publishing initiative of its kind in the country, the Oxford Novellas give exclusive space for a literary form which has seen classics such as Poornachandra Tejaswi’sCarvalho and Asokamitran’s Water in India (and elsewhere, George Orwell’s Animal Farm and Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea). Six novellas have appeared in this series until now. Each of them includes an introductory essay and separate notes by the author and translator. In her editor’s note, Krishnan writes that the twin criteria of ‘social relevance’ and ‘literary excellence’ guided her choice of novellas. Kesava Reddy’s Ballad of Ontillu (Moogavani Pillanagrovi) appeared in Telugu in 1993. Much before farmer suicides became a national shame, this novella made fictional space for the tragic desperation surrounding that phenomenon. A farmer’s persistent hopes of striking water for his parched ancestral land takes him deep into debt and makes him take his life. Despite its heavy sentimentality, the novella lays bare the profound attachment of farmers to their land and the brute realities confronting them. The novel’s stubborn realism, though, takes a fantastic turn at the end. The Kannada writer Na. D’Souza’s The Island (Dweepa, 1970) is a fictional attempt to capture the tragic consequences of building a large dam in Shimoga district, Karnataka, well before displacement became the signature problem of development. A lone family, which has not been compensated with land elsewhere, stays back in a village threatened by submersion. The rising waters are expected to rob the village of access to roads only during the monsoon. Therefore, the family feels secure about staying on for a little longer, even while the jungle makes inroads. After a richly evocative description of the effects of imminent submersion on a human settlement, Dweepa shifts focus unexpectedly towards the charged relations between the husband and wife and their servant, and concludes rather hastily. Nabaneeta Dev Sen’s Defying Winter (Sheet Sahasik Hemantolok, 1988) assembles narratives of women residing in an old-age home. The author-narrator intersperses her accounts with those of her fellow residents which, the translator informs us, is also a juxtaposing of different speech styles. While the narrator’s philosophical musings on age aren’t always convincing, the dark realities of contemporary family life, which routinely bring cruelty for the elderly, are movingly engaged in the story. Published in the mid-1940s, C.S. Chellappa’s Arena (Vaadivaasal) contains a richly detailed account of jallikattu, the famous (and now banned) sport in the Tamil countryside where men try to overpower strong bulls. In this story, a young bull tamer seeks revenge against a bull that had fatally wounded his father in a fight. The story gives us a fascinating glimpse into the sophisticated world of jallikattu, with its own rituals of spectatorship and participation. Marathi writer Saniya’s Thereafter (Tyanantar, 2002) takes on the difficult task of representing the sadness, confusion and pleasures of a woman affirming herself after her husband leaves her abruptly. The novella, which vacillates between the stereotypical social reactions to her changed circumstance and her own inability to make sense of her new relations with men, does not entirely acquire a depth of treatment. Johny Miranda, the author of the extraordinary Requiem

[Goanet] Creepy Times - Common Tree Frog
Common Tree Frog (*Rhacophorus maculatus*) Average length: 2-3 inches Some months ago my youngest brother Milind came up with an unusual request. If you can release these two sticky frogs far away from the house, I’ll update your website, he said to me. His request requires some explanation. The ‘sticky frog’ he was referring to is the common tree frog. At any given time, two or three of these frogs are in residence in our house. They often hide inside mugs and other utensils in the kitchen or dining room, and give my family a real fright when they pick up one of these items and a frog comes shooting out of it. Even when the frog doesn’t pull a “Jack-in-the-box, it leaves my family with extremely distasteful feelings when they realize that they very nearly took a sip out of a cup with a live frog sitting inside. Sometimes it is a trouser you’re about to step into that habors this slimy amphibian inside. Yuck! You’ve probably figured out that Milind is the designer of my website. As it turns out he had been sitting on some work I had asked him to do for a very long time. And I guess since he refuses to accept any money from me for maintaining my website he feels fully entitled to make such strange requests of me from time to time! I didn’t have to think about his request. It was a win-win situation for me since I dislike having the frogs around in the kitchen almost as much as he does! I grabbed the frogs with a cloth since I’m queasy about handling their slimy bodies with my bare hands, and put them inside a moist bag. The next morning I released them close to a pond a few kilometers away from our house. My brother updated my website immediately after and a new set of tree frogs took up residence in my house a few days later! But despite my distaste feelings encountering them around the dining table, I see no reason to get rid of them. I might need some work done on my website again! The common tree frog comes in a variety of colors including brown, yellow, gray or white. What’s more is that this species has the ability to change its colour to a certain extent to blend in with its surroundings. They survive in relatively drier environments by wiping themselves with skin secretions consisting of mucus and lipids that help in reducing moisture loss. When temperatures are higher, they secrete from the skin (sweat), pant, and adopt lighter skin colors. *Reptiles and Amphibians of India *mentions that ‘this species often enters houses where it finds the atmosphere of bathrooms congenial.’ The book also mentions that the Tamil name of this frog is Therai and that it is believed that if it lands on a child the legs and hips of the child will become as slender and presumably as weak as that of the frog’s. [Goanet] GCZMA APPROVES PROJECTS AS PER CM ORDERS?
Dear Srinet Kotwale, Member Secretary GCZMA I am also in the opinion although I was living in that area ( Portais) earlier for so many years that this bridge from Patto to Four Pillars at St Cruz ( over the Ourem Creek ) is a MUST not only for the congestion sake point of view but it is shortening a distance by at least one kilometer, and the residents from Portais, Mala and even St Cruz are happy if that is built even without EIA clearance. Please go ahead. However you (Srinet) is still in dark about the work going on in full swing at Aivao for NIWS ( National Water Sports ) which is neither has EIA nor any approvals from CRZ and other authorities, as it comes under CRZ limits. This project was shelved since 2005 onwards You have neither clarified to the public nor it has been discussed in your committee about it. Alina Saldanha also is kept mum on this project. Google mapping shows that limitation of distance where this project is coming up is within the CRZ zone. and it is at low lying area. Recently CM Manohar Parrikar has inaugurated part of this project construction in haste so that it carries out quickly, as he has smelled some opposition from the villagers of Aivao and D.Paula. Will you clarify this case although your earlier committee sent by you headed by a Retd Judge Afonso Araujo who told us ( Myself and Dr.Joe ) while they were inspecting was in the opinion that this comes under CRZ and he said that he will instruct the Dept to issue a show cause notice immediately which never came. Another project at Mala , Portais a huge project is also coming at low lying area, please investigate this massive construction and ask to stop it/abandon this project with modifications. Stephen Dias D.Paula Date: 16th Oct 2014 == PANAJI: The Goa coastal zone management authority (GCZMA) has granted permission to Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) to build a bridge across Rua de Ourem creek in the city. The bridge is expected to shorten the distance from South-eastern parts of the city and its suburbs in St Cruz at least by a kilometre and help decongesting the area. The Ourem creek is lined with lush green mangrove trees and the Mala side columns for the bridge will be located inside the creek whereas the Patto side columns will be located on the bank. Srinet Kotwale, member secretary of GCZMA, said under CRZ rules, bridges are a permitted activity. Normally, it is checked if bridge columns interfere or block tidal flow. The GCZMA members also raised a question on whether environment impact assessment (EIA) is required to be carried out. The member secretary pointed out that normally bridges do not require EIA. Building of the bridge will also require removal of some portion of the mangroves to make space for proposed columns of the bridge. The decision to grant permission for the bridge was taken after GCZMA's expert team conducted site inspection and submitted its report. When permissions are given to projects of such nature, he said the applicant is asked to compensate loss by cultivating mangroves in the same area. With GCZMA giving the project a green signal, GSIDC Ltd, will now have to obtain other required permissions from the local authorities which should not consume much time. The bridge is expected to shorten the distance from south-eastern parts of the city and its suburbs in St Cruz at least by a kilometre and help decongest the area. Building of the bridge will require removal of some portion of the mangroves that line the Ourem creek to make space for proposed columns of the bridge.
[Goanet] GOA'S JUDICIARY CANNOT BE UNDER SEIGE
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had both vowed of Zero tolerance to Corruption and good governance with transparency and accountability. However their acts and deeds speak very much to the contrary. The awfully dark days are looming for the very Independence and Autonomy of the Judiciary. Very suspect is the latest very high-handed move by the Goa government to virtually lay to rest the Goa CBI Court which was set up on 7th October last year as per the directive of the Supreme Court to expedite cases of corruption. Just two months ago all corruption cases were transferred to the CBI Court keeping in mind the spirit of the directions of the Supreme Court to fast track them. It is surprising if not apparent the reason for this sudden now abrupt withdrawal of the corruption cases from the CBI Court. Now with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar having managed to swiftly wind up the CBI Court, all the corruption cases probed by the CBI and the Anti Corruption branch have now been transferred to an already very over burdened North Goa Principal District Judge who is having a pendency of over 1670 other cases and besides for the next over six months will be tied up with the Tarun Tejpal trial. Interestingly though the government notification divesting the CBI Court of its powers under the Prevention of Corruption Act is dated 7th October it was issued only yesterday. The Goa CBI Court which was presided over by Judge PV.Sawaikar had a pendency of around 120 corruption cases. Judge Sawaikar was scheduled to deliver his verdict on October 17th in the disproportionate assets case against Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar. Judge Sawaikar had recently also censured the Anti-Corruption Branch for having sought orders from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a complaint that was filed against him. Taking note that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should not have been allowed to go into the records of the investigation, Judge Sawaikar had in his order stated the SP of ACB, ought not to have followed such a procedure as it amounts to take opinion of an accused. Coincidentally Judge Sawaikar has been kept long waiting for his official car and government accommodation. After having spent lakhs of rupees on setting up this CBI Court at Mapusa the sudden questionable decision of the government will practically slow track the corruption cases much to the delight of the corrupt. Goa is without a State Information Commissioner and the Lokayukta is also nowhere in sight. So will this move by the Government to wind up the CBI Court be just another bonus to the perpetrators of corruption? *Ache Din Aane Wale* Hain for the corrupt! May I request you all to raise your voices loud and fearlessly on this day light assault on Goa’s Judiciary. Let us request Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to make the one much needed U turn and restore the powers of the CBI Court if he really stands for Zero Tolerance to Corruption. Over to you, Mr. Chief Minister. Goa is watching. [Goanet] My texts on Academia.edu
Dear All, I have uploaded my essay paper Speculatio through drawing, on academia.edu. https://independent.academia.edu/VenantiusJPinto/ Its an attempt to reveal what is that I do and why I do it, through specific and tangential references. That understanding is important to me, much as get revealed to me through contemplation (intellect of grace, I can only hope) in my artistic labor. Its an easy paper to read; although may require one to shut down the clatter and noise our minds have got accustomed to. I have no intention to make it harder on anyone; understanding what I do is hard enough for me. We do different things, although all art works may subscribe to the phenomenological. Such pursuits do not pay the bills, at least not for me..Feel free to share. If you find errors, simply chortle. :) Thank you. Chortle, chortle! Venantius J Pinto
[Goanet] Johny Miranda's Requiem for the Living
http://www.thehindu.com/books/books-reviews/silent-voices/article5876012.ece Set in the clutch of small islands that dot the backwaters off the bustling city of Kochi, Johny Miranda’s novella tells the compelling story of a Creole people haunted by their real and unreal pasts and by a present that is almost hallucinatory. Told through the eyes of a young sacristan, it is a gripping account of emotional, physical and spiritual isolation in a beehive-like community rooted in embroidered tradition and consumed by religiosity. It depicts an overpowering world of make-belief, a medley of religion, ritual, custom and superstition that solidifies into the life system of the islanders — a phantasmagoria of real and imagined pasts in which the ornamental inheritances of the Portuguese days and the harsh realities of a marginalised people are intermingled. Sacristan Josy Pereira’s lonely world floats in a Cloud of Unknowing that is chilling in its blindness, desolation and helplessness. The Kochi-Creole community is today almost indistinguishable from the coastal world around it except perhaps for its underpinnings of rituals, prayers and the remnants of a patois — and, of course, the Portuguese surnames that brand them. Even though they are officially enumerated as ‘Anglo-Indian’ and people used to refer to them as paranki (Portuguese), according to some studies they have no ascertained component of miscegenation. They are an indigenous coastal community of artisans and workers — potters, carpenters, boat-builders, tailors — proselytised by the Portuguese in the 16 and 17 centuries and drawn into the spell-binding world of the mythology and dogma of the Catholic church. Along with the new faith they received another dubious gift: Portuguese names that stamped on them the paranki identity. The Portuguese were ousted by the Dutch in the late 17 century and the Kochi-Creoles continued to traverse history immersed in the fairy tales of their faith and battling hard for survival. To Kerala’s Catholic mainstream moored in the mainland and dominated by the Syro-Malabar Church, they are eternal outsiders — the Latin low castes. Johny Miranda’s novella is perhaps the first insider-fiction to emerge from the Kochi-Creole community. The very fact that it received little notice in Malayalam when published a decade back and remains out of print exemplifies the sectarian attitudes referred to by J. Devika in her scholarly introduction to the book. One would only like to add that such mindsets are not restricted to the Hindu upper castes of Kerala but also the Christian and Muslim. The fast-flowing, lush narrative of Miranda’s novella opens up for the reader the Kochi-Creole world with its raw passions, unfathomable violence, impotent rebellion, all-encompassing religiosity and insufferable loneliness. It is ably translated by Sajai Jose and supported by an excellent introduction and an author’s note that speaks from the heart. Oxford Novellas’ series editor Mini Krishnan is to be congratulated for discovering and bringing into the Indian mainstream such gems of bhasha literature.

[Goanet] Fwd: Press Release
*PRESS RELEASE* * Goans have always shown a natural flair for the game of hockey and have always played thrilling and delightful hockey. In undivided India, the Karachi Goans and Bombay Goans gave India their finest and most outstanding hockey players. Goans settled in Bombay, and Central India formed the cream of the Indian hockey team before Goa’s liberation. Post liberation, when Goans found little opportunities for growth of hockey within the state, the international hockey horizon saw a number of gifted hockey players of Goan origin representing countries like the USA, Canada, England, Kenya, Tanzania, besides India. * *In an attempt to hone the inherent talent in Goa at the rural and grassroot level, a 3 week long hockey training camp is being organised by ‘Hockey Village India Academy’ in association with Miracles High School, Sanguem in the school premises from Oct 19, 2014. 4 German coaches along with 14 girls and boys from Hockey Village India Academy will contribute their expertise to the camp. * *The idea behind the camp is to revive the sport among the youngsters, and give talented girls and boys opportunities to test their skills in more competitive and challenging environments. * *In 2010, a former German hockey player Andrea Thumshirn started the academy in Garh Himmat Singh, District Dausa in Rajasthan with the support of her German hockey friends and local ruling families. With the support of the local population, Andrea not only finalised a ground but also arranged for hockey sticks, T-shirts and other. Since there were too many children to coach, training sessions for girls and boys were fixed for alternate days. Thereafter, she managed to spread awareness of hockey in the surrounding areas and started giving training to 50 girls and boys who later on participated in various U-14 and U-16 domestic tournaments. * *With the intention to combine sports and education, Hockey Village India opened their own school in 2013 to provide proper education and sporting facilities to the identified budding players. Hockey India has added Hockey Village India Academy as an Associate Member, with an aim to reach out to those underprivileged children who are keen to make a career in sports an provide a platform to showcase their talent.* *Miracles High School Sanguem, run by the Society of Pilar, largely caters to the educational and recreational needs of children in Goa’s rural belt. Miracles High School was in the news recently for an entirely different venture. A month-long effort to induce children to develop an interest in agriculture under the guidance of Fr Pio Furtado, Headmaster of Miracles High School, met with resounding success, with the produce being sold to the Goa Horticulture Development Corporation. * *With the dedication and support of the authorities, the hockey initiative is moving in a similar direction. The girls and boys at Miracles High School come from the rural belt, and have been active at hockey in Goa’s school circuit. The aim of the camp is to promote the sport among the children, and make the hockey accessible and fun for the children.* *The programme starts at 9 am on 19th October 2014 at Miracles High School, Sanguem. 7 a side exhibition matches involving Goan girls and boys and the visiting girls and boys from Hockey Village India, Rajasthan will be held. [Goanet] Reginaldo is right and well predicted. Congress will have further down fall.
*Reginaldo sees red after seeing dissidents at Luizinho induction* *CLp deputy whip says people of goa are watching Cong move to invite leaders accused of anti- party activities* *TEAM HERALD* MaRgao: When Luizinho Faleiro formally took over the reigns of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee ( GPCC) in Panjim on Tuesday, Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco headed to a starred resort in coastal Cavelossim to attend the concluding day of the two- day All India Whip’s conference. Herald understands the deputy whip of the Congress Legislature Party ( CLP) had made a brief presence at the party function in Panjim to wish Luizinho, but preferred to drive down to Cavelossim instead of sharing the dais with the very leaders who were till recently accused for anti- party activities during the Lok Sabha poll. Reginaldo sought to defend defend his presence at the Whip’s conference instead of Luizinho Faleiro’s function citing his position as the CLP deputy whip. But, he has minced no words in telling all and sundry that the people of Goa are watching the party over the decision to invite on the dais the very leaders accused for anti- party activities. “ People of Goa have been watching the Congress since the 2012 Assembly polls and the recent Lok Sabha poll. And, they are watching the party over the presence of the leaders facing disciplinary charges at Faleiro’s function,” Reginaldo said, while conveying a message loud and clear that he will always stand by the people of Goa. [Goanet] John Fernandes former Goa Congress President has a point and Luisinho will fail his mission.
*Taking back dissidents in Cong fold will backfire, argues John* *Says any decision of the disciplinary committee cannot be revoked without consent of the high command* *TEAM HERALD* PANJIM: A day after Congress’s dissidents showed up on the dais alongside their new party chief Luizinho Faleiro, the high command appointed disciplinary committee chairman John Fernandes argued that this move will cause a “ backlash against the party”. Fernandes also said that his committee’s decisions to initiate disciplinary action against the senior- most leaders was seconded by All India Congress Committee ( AICC) general secretary and Goa desk in- charge Digvijaya Singh, who was of the strong opinion that workers indulging in antiparty activities would not be entertained in the party. “ Any decision of the disciplinary committee cannot be revoked without consent of the high command. It goes against Congress party’s constitution,” Fernandes claimed. The former party president was speaking to Herald from Mumbai, where he is made Congress party election incharge in few constituencies. Fernandes would be returning to Goa on Thursday. Fernandes said that the disciplinary committee has submitted all its action- taken report to the high command for further action. He has said that the committee has so far suspended two members permanently from Congress party ( Aleixo Sequeira and Subhash Faldessai) and has resolved that two members ( Ravi Naik and Joaquim Alemao) should not be given any position in the party and ticket for elections. Also, two names are being forwarded to the high command for action ( Francisco Sardinha and Valanka Alemao). On Tuesday, Congress party rebels – Sequeira, Naik, Alemao, Sardinha and Faldesai – shared the dais with newly appointed Chief Luizinho, sending clear indication of their re- entry into the party soon. The disciplinary action against all of these Congressmen is pending for their antiparty activities during Lok Sabha elections and thereafter. “ People are watching everything. They had voted against Congress during assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections due to these leaders, who lack discipline. Their re- entry would be yet another lesson to the party,” Fernandes said, adding ‘ my actions were to revamp the party and make it free from corrupt and family raj politics.’ Further it has been learnt that Fernandes has submitted a report to the high command about some Congress senior leaders colluding with BJP- led government. People are watching everything. They had voted against Congress during assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections due to these leaders, who lack discipline. Their re- entry would be yet another lesson to the party John Fernandes SPEAKING HIS MIND
