[Goanet] Zimbabwe By The Sea
-Original Message- From: Eddie Fernandes [mailto:eddie.fernan...@gmail.com] Sent: 01 February 2015 01:33 To: eddie.fernan...@gmail.com Subject: Zimbabwe By The Sea 1 Feb: Herald. The horror stories of British expats who have invested in property in Goa has earned Goa a new name Zimbabwe by the sea Bryan Smith, who is working with an informal group of British expats said, None of you know what really is going on. Its a mafia all right. They are elderly people out there and they are very very scared. People are falling sick, some are suicidal and one suicide which has happened is, we are sure, a direct result of such stress. Some really do not have any money left. He went on to add, Do you know what Goa is referred to by a majority of those who are suffering and those who have friends and relatives back home who know whats going on? Goa is called Zimbabwe by the sea 905 words. http://www.heraldgoa.in/Review/ZIMBABWE-BY-THE-SEA/84261.html Visa uncertainty and ED scrutiny pre 2010 made the Goa dream a nightmare for Brits. 1 Feb: Herald. 653 words. http://www.heraldgoa.in/Review/Visa-uncertainty-and-ED-scrutiny-pre-2010-mad e-the-Goa-dream-a-nightmare-for-Brits/84260.html Settled: All lands cannot be presumed to be agricultural. 1 Feb: Herald. 442 words. http://www.heraldgoa.in/Review/SETTLED-All-lands-cannot-be-presumed-to-be-ag ricultural/84259.html = Englishwoman replicates restoration of Goa Fort in Portugal 31 Jan. 2015: Diario de Noticias (Portugal). It may seem strange, but an Englishwoman, Lady Helen Hamlyn, who heads the Hamlyn Foundation, will pay 2 million euros for the refurbishment of the Fort at Albarquel, in Setúbal, Portugal. She is a childless 89 year old widow and in 2008 paid for the restoration of Reis Magos Fort in Goa http://www.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/showlink.aspx?bookmarkid=XVEMS9SFQ1 M6 [From the Archives] 17 Nov. 2002. Daily Telegraph (UK). Tycoon's widow loses battle to restore Goa's ancient fort. Lady Hamlyn, one of the richest women in Britain, had offered to pay £300,000 to restore the 16th-century Reis Magos fort. She has become embroiled in a bitter row with the government of Goa after being accused of trying to turn an ancient colonial monument into a holiday home [This paranoia regarding the Brits holiday homes is nothing new, it appears!] http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/india/1413458/Tycoons-widow-l oses-battle-to-restore-Goas-ancient-fort.html If the links do not work, check out www.goanvoice.org.uk - newsletter of 1 Feb. 2015 Eddie Fernandes
[Goanet] A SAD FATE OF MANOHAR PARRIKAR’S HEART-BROKEN KARYAKARTA
Flowing from the chimney are instances how over the years Manohar Parrikar egoistically hurt and let down a lot of innocent souls. Like toilet paper he has disrespectfully rubbed, scrubbed and thrown away many whom he selfishly used. One of them is Shekar Narayan Sawant who for the last 20 long years was Manohar Parrikar’s very die-hard Karyakarta who actively toiled through all his election campaigns. The son of a former police officer the 42 year old Shekar who also lost his mother two years ago, lived along with his handicapped and mentally challenged younger brother Vidyadhar at the police quarters at Althinho in Panaji. Vidyadhar’s care and well-being was always Shekar’s great concern. The very kind and always well mannered Shekar was a graduate and over the last few years worked as a receptionist at Hotel Arcadia on Panaji’s M.G.Road. Over the years Manohar Parrikar kept assuring Shekar of a government job which on merits and his aptitude he anyway deserved. The very down to earth Shekar did not even own a two-wheeler and walked his way through the city. He was looking forward to that government job so that he could enter into matrimony. But his destiny had it all otherwise. On December 27th late night Shekar was rushed to Goa Medical College on account of chest pain and within hours he passed away. It is reported that just a few days earlier he had called on his ‘bhai’ with a call letter he had received for a LDC’s post. But and true to his style, Manohar Parrikar arrogantly rebuked and humiliated Shekar and even tore to pieces that call letter. A distraught and heartbroken Shekar later narrated to his friends the humiliating treatment he received from Manohar Parrikar whom he had loyally and dedicatedly served all these years. Manohar Parrikar should have realized that fulfilling the promise made to Shekar had to be a priority because the educated and qualified Shekar was struggling to make ends meet and more so had a major responsibility of caring for a very handicapped brother. On that 28th December though Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was very much in Goa but possibly out of guilt did not even care to attend the cremation of his very faithful karyakarta Shekar which was held in his native village at Pirna. Incidentally Shekar’s family house in Pirna is just opposite the residence of Satish Dhond the BJP’s de-facto Patriarch in Goa. But he too reportedly never cared to lend Shekar a helping hand. Shekar was a kind soul from the Bahujan Samaj. Had he been a mine owner, builder, Casino operator or from the affluent community, Manohar Parrikar would have been at his feet and prominently photographed at the funeral. The harrowing indignation and humiliation that Shekar had to endure despite that two decade long loyalty to Manohar Parrikar should act as an eye opener to others. How can someone who miserably failed to defend his own lieutenant now defend the nation? It’s over a month that Shekar is no more. All who knew him miss him dearly. However though the person who should have cared for him the most dared abandon him, but let us keep Shekar in our thoughts and also pray that his unfortunate younger brother Vidyadhar may be able to cope on with life without Shekar around who was his only caregiver and companion. To the Honourable Defence Minister of India Manohar Parrikar, all that I can say is that over the last few years I stopped being proud of you. Today with the manner in which you have dealt with Shekar, any sensible man would be ashamed of you. [Goanet] Rats deserting the sinking ship
RATS DESERTING SHINKING SHIP The turn of fortunes of Congress seem to have devastating impact by those who are now unemployed and out of power. The opposition party in an attempt to further maul, decimate and, pulverise the Congress is pulling out all the tricks in the trade. The lustre of earlier wins and unfulfilled promises galore is denting the shine of party I power, as voters are increasingly becoming suspicious of the way of functioning with ulterior motives, communal agenda not lost on the disillusioned electorate The defection mode is seen in Delhi poaching on Congress leader. The sudden catapulting of Bedi to upset the apple cart of Arwind is another example in this direction .Close and important Congress leaders, functionaries are taken to task for praising P.M Modi , when in fact he is receiving accolades from world leaders of many Nations. The Jayanti Natarajan episode is spilling beans into public domain, which were so far only a conjecture of speculations. Why she has spilled the beans at this juncture being in power for, enjoying largesse of Congress for almost 4 decades and after waiting for almost a year demitting office is not convincing. Politicians of all shades are selfish being discretely motivated by personal gains .She is willing to expose thread bear with proofs of the involvement of Congress leaders, if she is pushed to the brink and corner thereby reserving her fire power. Why the ruling party at the centre is not announcing investigations against her, when she is more than willing to co operate to exonerate her pride and integrity. The interference of outsiders directing Ministers to subtly take favourable decisions is a serious breach of oath of office to preserve the secrecy and constitution. It is a known fact that pressures are brought on Ministers to consider the interests of their followers in an indirect manner without leaving any trail or trace .Jayanti Tax is a favourite phrase by P.M Modi and that she was shacked and denied any position in the Congress party or even audience by the boss is an indication of seriousness even if charges are legally not sustainable to withstand the scrutiny of the courts One can appreciate her nursing wounded feelings and waiting to express her bitterness. But the timing is appearing to hurt deliberately the prospects of Congress either at someone else`s behest The chorus against Rahul and Sonia is only expected to be shriller by the day inspite of vociferous denials and damming accusations by the stalwarts in the Congress party. It is the least protest that Congress expected at the time of Delhi elections Nelson Lopes. Chinchinim
[Goanet] meanigless solar subsidy
MISLEADING SOLAR SUBSIDY The Govt in order to encourage alternative use of energy provides subsidy. The subsidy is only available if loan is taken and paid by instalments through Nationalised and other designated Banks for a compulsory period of two years. Hence no subsidy is payable on direct purchase Besides the subsidy is not cleared immediately and takes a lot of follow up even after submitting all documentations and completion report. In the end you end up paying banks much more interests a, processing , handling and other hidden charges besides regular instalments even though the instalments are computed by considering the interest component. The subsidy must be released without hassles and immediately to make it attractive and without forcing to take loan, which adds unnecessarily to costs and making subsidy meaningless. Nelson Lopes . [Goanet] Fwd: 9 men Sporting Clube de Goa edge out 10 men Salgaocar
*9 men Sporting Clube de Goa edge out 10 men Salgaocar* Sumeet Ghosh netted the winner as 9 men Sporting Clube de Goa edged out 10 men Salgaocar FC by a solitary goal in the U-19 League organsied by the AIFF at Cuncolim ground, on Friday. Salgaocar had overcome Sporting Goa by the same score line just four days back and so the Flaming Oranje were determined to make amends. The match took a sour note in the 64th minute when James Fernandes of Sporting Goa and Salgaocar substitute Domnic Soares were given their marching orders for an off the ball incident. Sporting Goa was further reduced to nine men in the closing stages when Jarmanjeet Singh was sent off for his second bookable offence. Sporting Goa had a first look at the goal when midfielder Quan Gomes tried his luck from thirty yards as the ball whistled just past the post. At the other end Salgaocar’s best effort fell to Naro Shrestha who could not make enough contact with the ball as he went for a volley. After the lemon break, Salgaocar left back Raja Rawat came close to breaking the deadlock when he overlapped down the flank and tried to catch the Sporting Goa custodian off guard with an explosive chip. Moments later Salgaocar substitute Liston Colaco rattled the post with a stinging drive. As the game progressed Sporting Goa started to threaten and look menacing. In the 66th minute Sumeet struck a low drive which took a wicked deflection off a Salgaocar defender, altering the trajectory of the shot and ended up flying in to the back off the net. Sumeet raced away to perform a front flip in delight as he was congratulated by his team mates in front of the team bench. [Goanet] Fwd: Brandon Fernandes signs for Sporting Clube de Goa
*Brandon Fernandes signs for Sporting Clube de Goa* It’s been a long anxious wait but it has finally paid off. Young Goan football talent Brandon Fernandes has been given clearance to play for Sporting Clube de Goa who he has been training with since September. The International transfer certificate came a few days back and the club has now completed the registration with the Aiff today. It was one year ago that Brandon Fernandes scored to help usher Goa-India to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mozambique and clinch the Lusofonia football gold medal. It was a proud moment for the whole of Goa. For someone who made his debut in the Gfa age group league at the age of nine, the last 365 days has been very unusual for Brandon as he has not played a single professional match, after frustratingly waiting for International clearance from South Africa. Brandon’s career started at a very young age where he played for the youth teams of Fransa and Velsao Pale, before making the move to Salgaocar where he started to gain a reputation as a promising talent. He represented Goa and later India at nearly all the age categories from thirteen to nineteen. In 2008 when Manchester United ran a skills competition in Goa, Brandon finished on top of the pile which saw him travel to the theatre of dreams at Old Trafford, in England where he stormed into the top ten in the skills category amongst a host of players from top nations. Brandon came back to Goa and continued to make headlines through his exploits on the field with club and country, also scooping accolades and recognition as a young sportsman by winning BIG FM and Geno awards. In 2010 his talent caught the attention of the ASD Academy, Cape Town in South Africa. It was not easy leaving his friends and family behind, but his rather ambitious nature encouraged him to pack his bags and follow his heart. During his stint in South Africa he would come back to represent the national team. He eventually played for Salt Water Blackpool in the South African second division. His sparkling performances allowed him to travel to Europe and have trials with the likes of Leicester City, Reading and Sunderland in England and also St Mirren in Scotland where he had to come home after sustaining an injury. Although he did not manage to bag the elusive contract in Europe, Brandon believes his experience to date has given him the perfect grounding. “Having played with foreign players in the academy and on trial, my confidence with the ball has improved. We were shown how to keep the tempo high when attacking which came from lots of repetition in practice,” remarked Brandon. Brandon’s child hood idol remains to this day as Cristiano Ronaldo, but he now models his game around Spanish attacking midfielder Isco. Brandon is just as hungry today as when he first kicked a ball and believes despite having a head start over his peers he has a little groundwork to catch up having watched from the stands for the past year. “I want to thank the Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz and the Flaming Oranje for giving me this opportunity to reignite my career,” remarked Brandon. His short term goals are to create assists and score goals for Sporting Goa and play his part in helping the team win major silver-ware. Thinking long term he wants to break into the senior national team and eventually fulfill his dream of playing abroad. “Brandon is a bright young Goan talent, we had no hesitation in signing him and believe if he can keep his head down and stay motivated he can carve out a long and illustrious career in the game,” stated Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz. [Goanet] Modi is reminded that religious minorities are not for killing / Condemn the mischievous govt ad on 26th January, omitting ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ from the Preamble of Indian Constitution
From: bcsabha.kal...@gmail.com To: Modi is reminded that religious minorities are not for killing Christians, Muslims fear US president's plea for tolerance will not be heeded John Dayal, DelhiIndiaJanuary 30, 2015 India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, does not like to be told that he, his government, his political party or the cadres of his old group, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh [RSS], have done something wrong. Over the course of three days this week, he was politely reminded that India’s religious minorities, particularly, were uneasy, and any adverse occurrences would seriously impact the promise of development on which he rode to power last year. US President Barack Obama made international headlines with his “town hall” speech in Delhi as he concluded a three-day visit to India for its Republic Day. The speech offered a rather sharp lesson on what makes a country great — not economic progress or military might, but the unity of its people brought about by a shared destiny, the hope of progress among the most marginalized and a sense of security among its religious minorities. But it was the Indian president, the 79-year old Pranab Mukherjee, who delivered a homily that was the strongest caution yet about the threat posed to unity and progress in India from the religious nationalism of the RSS. Mukherjee did not name the RSS, or its many associates in the Sangh Parivar family, but his address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day on January 26 — which marks the promulgation of the constitution in 1950 — dwelt at some length on the issue. In his address, Mukherjee said: “In an international environment where so many countries are sinking into the morass of theocratic violence … we have always reposed our trust in faith-equality where every faith is equal before the law and every culture blends into another to create a positive dynamic. “The violence of the tongue cuts and wounds people's hearts. The Indian constitution is the holy book of democracy. It is a lodestar for the socio-economic transformation of an India whose civilization has celebrated pluralism, advocated tolerance and promoted goodwill between diverse communities. These values, however, need to be preserved with utmost care and vigilance.” Mukherjee touched on a point that has worried many among those who voted for Modi, hoping he would bring about change and end the corruption and economic coma in which India found itself in the last years of the Congress administration led by Manmohan Singh. This was the increasing cacophony of many in the Bharatiya Janata Party, including several ministers and members of parliament, who were supporting a demand that India mark itself out as a Hindu Rashtra or Nation, and stop appeasing Muslims and Christians. Both minority religious groups are seen as enemies of the nation and the majority. Some among them were quite stridently asking that the constitution be scrapped and replaced by a more “nationalistic” one rooted not in Western concepts but in India’s Hindu tradition. Industrialists, bankers and businessmen hoping that the new regime would be able to attract international investors and partners, especially from the US, found its response turning tepid, despite Modi’s much-touted visits to Washington, New York, Beijing and Tokyo. Investors became hesitant not just because economic reforms were not taking place at the speed promised, but also because the country’s human rights environment had, if anything, sharply deteriorated. The so-called “Ghar Wapsi”, or homecoming campaign, launched by the Sangh Parivar just after the general election to forcibly convert Dalit and Tribal Christians and Muslims to Hinduism was put on hold a week before Obama’s state visit. It was never in doubt that the campaign, and violence targeting religious groups, would resume. And resume it did, the day after Obama left India. Recent data shows almost 150 recorded cases of violence against Christians last year, and several in recent days. Violence against Muslims is feared to be several times more. The hate campaign, meanwhile, has been ramped up with government leaks from 2011 census data stating that the Muslim population has soared. The official desegregated data of religious populations is among the last to be made public, but nationalists like to stoke alarm by saying that Muslims breed at a rate that would see them overtake the Hindu population within this century. The leaked data does show an increase in the Muslim population. Even though the growth rate slowed from 29 percent to 24 percent between 1991 and 2001, it is still higher than the national average of 18 percent for the decade. It is not just fringe elements or political mavericks who suggest solutions that would be deemed anti-democratic even in military dictatorships — including disenfranchisement of religious groups, or asking Hindu women to produce
