[Goanet] St. Joseph Vaz Birthday (April 21), & Earth Day (April 22nd)

2016-04-18 Thread George Pinto
>From the Joseph Naik Vaz Institute .

April 21st is the Birthday of St. Joseph Vaz, born in 1656
April 22nd is Earth Day.

Hence, we are inviting all followers of St. Joseph Vazto celebrate these two
significant dates this week. The rain forests and biological diversity of the
landstraversed by St. Joseph Vaz, namely Goa, Mangalore, and Sri Lanka are
among theearth’s precious Nature areas. The Western Ghats have been designated
World Heritagesites by the U.N. Butprecious agricultural, coastal, and wetland
areas are being ravaged by miningand ecologically damaging development. Pope
Francis, the Pope who canonized St.Joseph Vaz has given us the outstanding
Encylical, Laudatio Si, onthe environment. We urge everyone to read it and to
use it as a model tocare for our planet and the St. Joseph Vaz’ homelands of
India, particularlyGoa and Mangalore, and Sri Lanka.  The Joseph Naik Vaz
Institute has signed up toparticipate in the California Interfaith April 22nd
Prayer at 12p.m. We invite you to say the Climate Blessing Prayer belowon both
April 21st and April 22nd at 12 p.m.  At 12pm your time, pause and take amoment
to feel the power of prayer and to recommit to caring for the Earth.
Pleaseemail us about your participation at josephnaik@gmail.com  Climate
Blessing(http://www.faithclimateactionweek.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/GeneralBlessings.pdf)
We Hold the Earth We hold brothers and sisters who suffer from storms
anddroughts intensified by climate change. We hold all species that suffer. We
hold world leaders delegated to make decisions for life.We pray that the web of
life may be mended throughcourageous actions to limit carbon emissions. We pray
for right actions for adaptation and mitigationto help our already suffering
earth community. We pray that love and wisdom might inspire my actionsand our
actions as communities.  so that we may, with integrity, look into the eyes
ofbrothers and sisters and all beings and truthfully say, we are doing our
partto care for them and the future of the children. May love transform us and
our world with new stepstoward life.  Berkeley, California, April

[Goanet] HOW LONG DO SOULS LANGUISH IN PURGATORY

2016-04-18 Thread Nelson Lopes
How long do the souls continue to languish in purgatory?
For many more years do we have to offer masses or the souls of our dear
ones and others in purgatory ? Do we believe that they will languish
indefinitely in this state? We believe that many souls go to purgatory, but
much more enjoy the presence of God. Few faithful offer perpetual masses at
different congregations, especially, those that are skeptic about being
forgotten by their progeny and those that have no immediate family to
remember them. The Church by traditions accepts masses for the souls of the
dead on the day of burial, seven days, month , year, second and third year,
After that period there is no preference offered by the church in accepting
such prayers, and the second intentions no remuneration is accepted By the
way at all daily masses and after very decade of Rosary, the dead are
regularly remembered, Besides on all souls day in particular the souls in
purgatory are being remembered and prayed for Is it correct position that
when we offer masses in specific names ? n some Churches names of dead
souls are not announced at all before the beginning of Eucharistic
celebrations. Is not b advisable that the sacrifice of the mass is offered
to the souls in purgatory in general? If every time when we participate in
the Holy Eucharist can we not offer for such intention? The rosary and
other structured and spontaneous prayers, sacrifices et can be not be
offered for such intentions? Can we not offer regular charity to the needy
and deserving with the same intentions? Do the souls in purgatory appear
and request for hundred of masses for their deliverance? The mass stipend
as we understand is only for the maintenance of the priest and no value can
be attached to it
I wish some can explain the length of time after the death the masses are
to be offered in general .Is it guilt and fear of retribution that makes
relatives resort to this practice out of guilt complex ? Many are of the
firm belief that unless we pay the stipend it is not valid sacrifice .There
are instances, when these paid mass offerings are not said for many years
for one reason or other Can we not have faith in the merciful Lord to be
just and fair. In applying all the prayers to cleanse the souls in
purgatory How the doubts of duration in purgatory and the quantum of
prayers will be just enough not to be guilty of not doing enough

Re: [Goanet] Fwd: Morcha on Goa DMG and Dharna at Azad Maidan by Caurem villagers

2016-04-18 Thread Floriano Lobo
We at GSRP made it a point to visit the protesting Cavremkars at the Azad
Maidan, today this evening. They were mostly women and children among men
totaling aprox about 80 to hundred. It was a pleasure to address them and
make them laugh a bit making them forget their concerns for the future,
their sorrows.

I introduced myself as a 'KANEKAR', one who is selling Onions and not as a
politicians. This was something that they did not expect and it was claps
all around. "Do you see just one onion vendor or a line of them when you go
to the market?" "Do you pick up your load from the first one you see or
check out others too for the quality and price?" "Does anyone give you
onions for free?" "If one vendor wants to give you his onions for half the
going price or less, do you open your bag?" " NO?" "Why?" "Because you
know that most of those onions will be rotten if not all. Isn't it?" "What
happens when you cut onions?" "Your eyes get stung and tears come out,
Isn't it?" If the onion is rotten inside, will those tears be of joy or
anger?" " Will you not be happy if you get good onions for less?" Does it
not take some pains, time and effort to find out this commodity when you
are shopping?" "When you cut these good onions will your tears not be of
JOY?"

Consider the coming elections as a market place where all political parties
are selling political onions. If there were just two vendors, you would
probably avoid the Nagpur onion walla and go to the home grown one, because
the Nagpurwala makes you sweat in the hot sun at far away Panjim's Azad
Maidan, as if you had nothing else to do, tormenting and harassing you,
not giving in to your demands. But is that possible to have only two onion
vendors in the political market place? In fact every one will be squatting
there tempting you with their brand of onions. Therefore, you must be smart
enough to check out the onions thoroughly before you invest in them,
turning them over, pressing them to find out if they are soft and rotten,
checking out the price, etc. NO? Because, when you take your onions home,
you should not cry bitter tears of frustration and helplessness coupled
with anger and irritation for making the wrong choice. In fact your tears
should be the tears of JOY for having made a choice to help yourself and
not the Onionwalla.

And if you should come to check out 'our' [GOA SU-RAJ PARTYS] onions, you
will see that ours have just '5 member cabinet', not 12 (your tax money
saved so that the crippling load on the future of your children, the
70,000/- crores of public debts may be paid off), No Corporations and
Institutions to MLAs (these Organizations will make profits rather than
losses. Example they built 3 toilets for 6 crores, can you imagine? ), You
get Co-operative Mining as well as Rs. 10,000/- per month per every Goan
Household per month for the next 25 years thrown in as mining profit share
so that you don't need Laadly Laxmi, BPL schemes etc etc.). You get your
agriculture thriving. You get your forests back. You get rid of MOPA to
save your beloved Dabolim airport besides getting the Navy out. You get
Kadamba running from 5 a.m to 2 a.m. on new and original tyres, not
re-threaded ones. You get fly-overs and bridges as well as fast moving
river boats for transport so that you don't have to slog it out on roads
and die under the wheels of buses and trucks. You get MOI for your
children in primary schools in their mother tongue Konkani so that your
kids understand what they are taught, these vital instructions to stay
with them forever and go to make them Goans of repute, capable of learning
English, Marathi, Hindi, French, Portuguese or even Chinese and Japanese
in their life-time and be successful, with state of the art PRIMARY SCHOOLS
throughout Goa. and, excellent law and order so that they do not
break the bones of those who are put in jails, and refuse to take action on
the culprits in spite of everything been recorded on CCTV cameras. You
will probably have to sleep here if I go on and on, so I better stop.

And one last thing so that you can think about it while you are travelling
back home to Cavrem. You get your own High Command in Goa so that if you
want to throw a stone and break some heads for taking wrong decision which
make you suffer like this, then you do not have to travel all the way to
Delhi,Nagpur, or elsewhere. You can just pick up a stone and throw it right
here in Goa, anywhere, on any one to draw blood.

All this ended in a terrific applause.

Safe journey back home, Cavremkars, until we meet again.

GSRP for Goa's Own High Command in Goa.

BTW: THIS IS GOING TO BE GSRP'S CAMPAIGN SPEECH FOR ELECTIONS 2016-17.

[Goanet] Mango Chepnim

2016-04-18 Thread augusto pinto
My wife was asked for a mango chepnim recipe. I'm copying out one for him
and anyone else who wants to make raw mango chepnim:

25 tender mangoes (the seed should be soft)
2 cups Goa salt
8 Kashmiri chillies
1/2 teaspoon Hing (asafoetida)

Method
Wash and wipe and dry the raw mangoes
Take a container
Sprinkle salt at the bottom
Put the whole mangoes into a container
Put chillies and asafoetida and salt on the mangoes
End with a layer of salt
Place a small plate on the mangoes and rest a heavy weight on it so that
the mangoes get pressed down.
Cover it up and leave it for 3 days
After 3 days turn the mangoes over and sprinkle a little more salt. Replace
the weight and cover again.
On the 6th day there will be a lot of brine (liquid). Put the mangoes in a
jar and ensure that they are submerged in the brine. Keep for at least 2
weeks.

[Goanet] GOA CM MUST SACK ADVOCATE GENERAL ATMARAM NADKARNI

2016-04-18 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar should in public interest sack the
notorious and disgraced Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni so that the probe
against him is free and fair. This is all the more important in view of the
very disturbing revelations of Atmaram Nadkarni’s dubious links with the
now fugitive flamboyant liquor baron Vijay Mallya.

By his exceptional skills in wining and dining Judges, the damage done by
Atmaram Nadkarni to the Independence of the Judiciary in Goa over the last
four years in particular may be irreparable. Temples of Justice cannot end
up as dens of chicanery and jugglery.

The 7th President of United States of America Andrew Jackson had then so
very rightly said “All the rights secured to the citizens under the
Constitution are worth nothing, and a mere bubble, except guaranteed to
them by an independent and virtuous Judiciary”

Re: [Goanet] BSNL MUST BE TAKEN TO TASK FOR UNAUTHORIZED DIGGING

2016-04-18 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Sidharth
MLA of Panjim,

Thank you you very much, and as usual you have taken action immediately. I
have inspected the site near Tonca today, where I had fallen down when my
scooter tyre went in the wide gap cutting for laying the cable.
I am grateful to you that the cabling work was restored and cutting area
cemented in no time.
As you have mentioned that it was Reliance and not BSN, I have noted.

However, both of these service providers (BSNL and Reliance) must be
informed in future, that the work must be carried out with the supervision
from both the sides i.e from Goa Government (CCP/PWD) and their side.
Lots of digging is going on in and around Panjim but care must be taken on
safety aspects first, as senior citizens and children are at higher risk.
All the safety measures must be done as per the norms of road
digging/cabling and Traffic Dept must also be informed in writing.

Anyway, I should not keep you busy for these things because it is not your
job. It is the duty of PWD or CCP. Please excuse me for sending you a mail
earlier.

I think the CCP Mayor needs to be woken up, he is a bit arrogant at times.
I and Dr. Joe D'Souza were both invitees during the presentation of TEZ
meeting on 1st April at CCP Town hall. You and Mr. Atanasio were also
present at the meeting, but did not say anything. but the Mayor made
allegations that we are NGO's and writing articles which is not his
concern. He told us that we should give him only solutions and nothing else.

For your information we both are not NGO's and do not receive any funding
from any source to act in such a manner, as our job is to help and guide
the Government on scientific matters when required for the betterment of
our State.

In this connection, I will just take the liberty to forward a letter from
Dr. Joe D'Sousa who authorized me to forward the scan of the copy he handed
over to me just today. He has already 'inwarded' the letter at CCP office.
(scan attached 3 pages).

Regards

Stephen Dias
