[Goanet] Feedback Appreciated on Defense Expo

2016-05-20 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
Defense Expo in Goa
It is now more than a month since the Defense Expo was held in Goa.
Can someone provide feedback of social and economic effects this major event
had on Goa?
Did Goa's economy and tourist industry get a boost?
Did the sky fall-in as some on Goanet predicted?
Would it help Goans to have this annual event again in Goa?
Thanks in anticipation.  Regards, GL

Jim Fernandes,
The possibility of a Brexit and the very real possibility of a President

Expect lots of volatility in the markets this year.

In other words - ample opportunities to make a lot of money.

Thanks for that information Cecil.

Incidentally I saw with despair the way they spelled 'Pomburpaha'.

I stopped complaining about such 'errors' long long ago. In my latest
ratiion card my name has been changed to Augusta. And my village has been
changed to Nachinola. I accepted it without too much fuss. I simply don't
have the energy to pursue such issues.

The problems which arise when names are wrongly spelled by the clerks are
well known and yet the mistakes keep occurring with nauseating regularity.

Are these spelling errors just 'errors' or are they quite deliberately
done? And am I realizing what is being done long after everyone else?

Perplexed,
Augusto

[Goanet] VOTING FOR AAP WOULD ONLY ALLOW BJP TO CRUISE THROUGH AND FURTHER DESTROY WHAT REMAINS OF GOA

2016-05-20 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The 2017 Legislative Assembly polls are very crucial for Goa. It would be
the last opportunity to save what remains of Goa from being laid to rest.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which is virtually only a Delhi based regional
party is suddenly in political overdrive preying on gullible Goans. The AAP
which has not been contesting elections in any other state has now a whole
brigade of AAP volunteers camping in Goa and desperately attempting to sell
Arvind Kejriwal in Goa. Though there are some very well meaning prominent
and naive Goans associated with the AAP in Goa, it is no secret that the
Goa unit of AAP is being geared and steered by persons closely linked with
the devious Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The faces associated with
the RSS who are in the AAP bandwagon, are all well known.

Infact supporting and voting for the AAP would indirectly ensure that the
RSS driven BJP will comfortably cruise through at the ensuing elections and
by default get a licence to further destroy what remains of Goa.

It is time the people of Goa see through this concealed game plan of the
AAP which undisputedly in Goa is now a ‘B’ team of the BJP. Arvind Kejriwal
while an activist spoke a lot on collective responsibility and public
participation in Governance. But once he assumed power as the Chief
Minister of Delhi, it has been a one man rule. No wonder his Senior
co-founders and other leaders of the Aam Aadmi party have jumped ship and
deserted him. The AAP is posturing in Goa with the hidden agenda and
ulterior motive to split the anti BJP votes so that the saffron party wins
by default.

The people of Goa would have to rise to the occasion and thrash the AAP and
the other decoy candidates the BJP will fund and let loose on the election
arena to confuse and divide the people of Goa.

*USA prove too strong for India*

*‘WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK’*

*By Nilanjan Datta,AIFF Media Team*

*VASCO (GOA):* The start was promising. But it fizzled out.

India dominating, pressing and winning almost every ball as if it was do or
die, conceded against the run of play in the 27th minute. And thereafter,
it was one-way traffic. USA took over and India conceded at regular
intervals.

United States of America outplayed Indian U-16 Team preparing for the 2017
FIFA U-17 World Cup 4-0 in AIFF Youth Cup at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco on
Thursday (May 19). USA led three-nil at half-time.

The first 27 minutes were, nevertheless, different. India played all over,
attacked with purpose at a fast pace. There was always one to support the
other. The ‘better attitude’ was evident.

In the 9th minute, Ninthoi’s shot was saved by Alexander Paul and with
Gaston’s long throws paving danger, USA were started to get frustrated. So
much so, that Rayshaun was flashed the yellow for a foul on Komal.

“In the first 27 minutes the Indians were frustrating us. We desperately
needed to get the ball into their box. And the first one gave us a goal,”
USA

Coach John Hackworth said at the post-match Press Conference.

Understanding they were not getting anything in the middle, USA stretched
it to the flanks. Andrew James who had started on the left, switched flanks
and thereafter, it all changed. Keeping him silent was too much for Aimol
and all the three goals in the first half were all initiated by James.

For the first two, he rounded off on the right flank and played it low and
behind the defence line enabling all the time in the World for William
Franklin to head it in.

India were lucky as Franklin missed his hat-trick in the 41st after James
had again gone past Aimol on the right and centered only for Franklin to
head it into the side netting.

Nevertheless, the wait wasn’t long. The third goal was also similar, just
that Chandler Vincent basted it off the rebound after the defence line had
cleared James’ centre.

Changing over, the story stayed the same. The Indians faltered again when
it was played behind the defence when in the 56th minute Kevin Roberto

tapped in a Jake Anthony low centre -- the sole difference was that this
time it came from the right flank.

Two minutes later, Nicolai brought in Rakip who came in for Gaston. And
then, Aman was replaced by Nonganba Singh. But it was too much of a task
overturning the deficit.

In the 85th minute, Amarjit’s centre was just that inch over for Nonganba
and the very next minute Alexander stretched full to saved his grounder for
a corner.

USA also had a chance in added time but the towering Joshua Thomas despite
towering above all to meet a corner, headed wide.

“I am happy with the attitude shown by the boys,” Nicolai said post match.
“We were well organised and we are on the right track,” he added.

Both Teams play Korea Republic in their next match. While India play them
on May 23, USA will face them on May 21.

[Goanet] Miscrap - 7

2016-05-20 Thread Jim Fernandes

Hmm ... heard a couple of chirps about folks recommending on GoaNet to bulk up
on gold.

Yea Keep loading up on that shiner! I could send in a couple of old
wooden caskets in case you need more space to store that crap.

Well - all I am going to suggest is to buy gold at your own peril. Me will
never get suckered into a trade like that.

For starters, I think the little lease on life that gold was given by the US
Fed is coming to a close. Yesterday, we came to know that the US Fed is most
likely going to boost rates again - as early as June. Another couple of rounds
of 25 basis point boost for the remainder of 2016 will be enough to inflict the
damage to gold.

My take is that June hike is unlikely but July is the one, I would be more
likely to bet on. The collective thinking is that the outcome of the UK Brexit
referendum could go either way. In the short term, global markets would most
likely behave in a fashion they are extremely good at - that is - to go with
the classic herd mentality.

My style of investing is simple. I don't follow the herd - it's too dangerous
for me to go with. Why would I want to get crushed in a stamped when I can
simply wait for a member of the herd to run out of steam and collapse? That
way, I can grab easy meat. Me thinks the market has topped and its gonna go
down for the next couple of months.

As for my money, starting early June, most of it will be sitting in the US
TIPS, till I have some clarity. I expect another round of short term bloodbath
with both issues - the UK referendum as well as the Fed boost in the interest
rates coming into play. Maybe, I am just too lazy, but the waiting game has
paid very well for me.

A couple of months ago, I said ba-bye to oil during its upward trajectory when
it hit $40. It's gone some 20% higher than my exit target. I understand I got
off too early but I am still OK with my strategy. One can't be too greedy.

My philosophy is akin to the old adage - A bird in hand is worth two in the
bush.

[Goanet] Goan Matrimonial alliance

2016-05-20 Thread Francisco Fernandes

Goan Catholic parents invite matrimonial correspondence for their 29 years old
5 feet, slim spinster daughter settled and working in UK in a professional
capacity.

She has graduated in the UK and has a pleasant personality, is independent,
confident, home loving, cheerful by nature, loves travelling and seeing
different places, driving, hiking, music and movies.

We would love to hear from sober Goan well placed Catholic bachelors. Please
send in replies in confidence to email : franciscofernandes...@hotmail.com
