Mervyn Lobo,
You must try to stick to the point and stop losing focus all the time.

My post was on bringing in a hate speech law in Goa based on the anti-African
sentiment being highlighted in the Indian media.

You are talking instead of India China trade.

You must stop all those free investment letters you are using to make yourself
look savvy. You might end up believing yourself, not in yourself.

What happened to your latest get rich quick advice on Goanet to invest in the
Canadian budding Mary-Jane industry? Last I heard the Toronto Police were
raiding all those Marijuana businesses downtown and jailing those connected to
it who had set up shop on the expectation that 2017 would see the product
legalized.

Re: [Goanet] Time For Hate Laws In Goa.

2016-06-08 Thread Eugene Correia
Long ime ago, Mao had declared that Africa is ripe for revolution. Today,
an economic revolution is taking place. As for the Goa case regarding
Nigerians, I used to hear during a quarrel between two Goans when one would
declare, "tun sarko Hapri murre."
Maybe this was part of the Portuguese influence who felt that Africans were
uncouth, un-intelligent and troublesome. When a Goan like Ravi Naik makes a
racist remark one can only say that he is suffering from colonial hangover,
as some Goans do.
In Toronto, lot of "white" people would sell their houses when more Blacks
bought houses in the neighboured. Similarly, whites were moving out when
more Indians moved into the neighbourhood. Check Springdale in Brampton,
which is nicknamed Singhdale, and also take a look at the Goreway Drive
nearby the Hindu temple where it would be difficult to fiind white families.
Rightly, those Nigerians who were living in Goa "illegally" had to be
rounded-up and deported long time ago. I have been to the Calangute/Anjuna
area and I am not surprised that Goans and Nigerians would be sharing pot
and other things. The Russians took over Morjim and I could see mostly
"white" skin.
Ravi and his son Roy was alleged to be hand-in-glove with the drug mafia,
and now he's probably want to show clean hands. Politicians patronised
these people and now they are crying foul.
Coming back to Africa, India seems to have borrowed the slogan, India
Rising, which the Vajpayee government promoted, from Africa Rising, which
Africa sounded as the African nations were making economic progress.
The Goa government should use proper procedure to contain the Nigerian
problem, so that law-and-order prevails.

Goa Book Club was part of it... seems the "owner" or administrator took
upon himself to make GBC a shareholder in the project without asking other
members. Democracy at work.

Just aksing, rre Alexandre Barbosa, Savita Viegas, Manohar Shetty, just to
mention three names, in it?

Roland,
1) No country has a natural enemy. The peoples who have become prosperous
are those who trade with their neighbours i.e. the next village, the next
province, the next country and even the next continent. When you have a
'natural' enemy, you have, in the best case scenario economic stagnation
and in the worst case scenario, politicians draining the exchequer to pay
for weapons instead of social services.

2) India's trade with Africa was well over a billion US dollars a week last
year and is expected to double in the near future.

3) The value of Indian exports to Africa exceeds that of what the US
exports to Africa.

4) About six months ago, India invited 50 African countries to a trade
conference where it changed its focus from trade to investment in Africa.
It is doing all the right things. Your opinion is entertaining, but
contrary to reality.

[Goanet] From Mind to Keyboard - Part I - Why didn't Bina do the cover?

2016-06-08 Thread augusto pinto
Goa1556, Golden Heart Emporium and Goa Book.Club have jointly come up with
their latest offering poetically named for some reason: '*From Mind to
Keyboard*'

It is an anthology of "writers from Goa and beyond" who "share stories of
how they made it".

If you're the sort who judges your books by their covers '*From Mind to
Keyboard*' might not disappoint you. It has by far the worst cover that any
Goa1556 book has had so far: The names of all the contributors to the
anthology Patricia Alvares, Ben Antao, Raksha Bharadia, Xavier Cota,
Jessica Faleiro, Pantaleao Fernandes, Ria Gomes, Stephen Gutkin, Sheela
Jaywant, Harish Kapadia, Nilesh Korgaonkar, Desmond Macedo, Reena Martins,
Odette Mascarenhas, George Menezes, Damodar Mauzo, Nandini Nayar, Fatima
Noronha, Sujata Noronha, Anita Pinto, Jerry Pinto, Victor Rangel-Ribeiro,
Rochelle Potkar, Cheryl Rao, Kornelia Santoro, Nitin Sathe, Aniruddha Sen
Gupta, Isaabel Santa Rita Vas, Yvonne Vaz Ezdani, are repeated three times
on the page in yellow and white on a dirty reddish brown. Below that is a
keyboard on which 'From Mind to Keyboard' is printed. The biggest name on
the cover in large caps is SHEELA JAYWANT (Editor).

But the biggest and most striking contributor to the book - 31 out of the
195 pages - FINDS NO MENTION ON THE COVER AT ALL! I am talking about the
illustrator BINA NAYAK who has done many a Goa1556 cover in the past and
who steals the show of the From Mind to Keyboard volume.

But I ask you: Couldn't Bina have done the cover as well?

[Goanet] Happy 90 th Birthday Your Majesty - Sat 11 June 2016

2016-06-08 Thread Melvyn Fernandes
Happy 90th Birthday your Majesty – Sat 11 June
On Saturday 11 June 2016 The people of Goa and of Goan orign living in the
British Isles wish her Majesty a very happy 90th Birthday,Good Health and many
more to come
Events begin at approximately 10.00am, with the fly-past at 1.00pm.
The parade is also broadcast live on the BBC in the UK.
The Sovereign's birthday is officially celebrated by the ceremony of Trooping
the Colour. This impressive display of pageantry takes place on a Saturday in
June by her personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade,
with Her Majesty the Queen herself attending and taking the salute. Over 1400
officers and men are on parade, together with two hundred horses; over four
hundred musicians from ten bands and corps of drums march and play as one. Some
113 words of command are given by the Officer in Command of the Parade. The
parade route extends from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards
Parade, Whitehall and back again.
During the ceremony, The Queen is greeted by a Royal salute and carries out an
inspection of the troops. After the massed bands have performed a musical
'troop', the escorted Regimental Colour is carried down the ranks. The Foot
Guards and the Household Cavalry then march past Her Majesty, and The King's
Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, rank past. The Queen rides in a carriage back to
Buckingham Palace at the head of her Guards, before taking the salute at the
Palace from a dais. The troops then return to barracks. Her Majesty then joins
other members of the Royal Family on the palace balcony for a fly-past by the
Royal Air Force.
How to watch:
Members of the public wishing to watch are advised to stand on The Mall or on
the edge of St James's Park overlooking Horse Guards (their view may be
somewhat obscured by troops in this position) from 9.00am. The best public
vantage points are indicated on the map with black dotted lines.
