BRICS meeting in Goa In a few weeks leader of five very important countries from all continents will be converging in Goa for their summit. It will be a good time for Goa and Goans to show off its attractions and put Goa on the world map and into history books. I am surprised not many articles about BRICS in the Goan newspapers or on Goanet. The BRICS summit may not be as powerful as DAVOS, Switzerland. But yet the five countries of BRICS do account for a major part of world economy. Their economic decisions can have major effects given the uncertainties caused by Brexit and the US elections. FR.PRESENTACAO DE MARIA BENTO PASCOAL FURTADO Born on 21-11- 1914 at Sarzora, Chinchinim to late Mr.Minguel Antonio Furtado and late Mrs. Maria Conceicao Dias .He was ordained priest on 16-4-1944 and passed away on 01-11-1980, Such was his popularity,it is said that the largely attended funeral procession took one and hour to the Church hardly 300 metres away from his residence His brother priest Rev.,Minguel Antonio Baranabe Furtado, born on 20-5-1908, ordained on 9-10-1935, passed away on 16-12 1985, remained his inspiration and spiritual guide The Villagers of Chinchinim are proud and privileged to have this pearl among Chinchinim Villagers .He holds the record for being the only teacher from Chinchinim to be honoured and conferred the prestigious State and National Award for teacher(2-5-1979) , by Govt. of India, Ministry of Education and Social welfare “in public recognition of his valuable service to the community, as the teacher of outstanding merit”, Fr Presentacao served as the Vice Principal and then Headmaster at St, Joseph H. School . Arpora, Bardez..Director of Lar dos Estudantes & Catholic Institute of Education Margao, presently named as Holy Spirit Institute .Appointed its Manger and Headmaster 1974-1979 .Member of D.B,Education 1962-1979 and inspector of Schools of D,S.E in South, Goa. P.P of St Xavier`s Church, Velim and served as the Manager of the School The progress and development of H.S,I. Margao is attributed to his vision and dynamism He was an able administrator, efficient and sysyematic. Even though it was centrally located in the heart of city, the elite, educated, rich parishioners preferred well established schools in the vicinity, He was not discouraged as he saw his mission catering to drop outs, marginalized, migrants, socially and economically disadvantaged and those refused admissions .The parents were mostly illiterate and with least formal education. He therefore inspired the staff and motivated them to discharge their duties with compassion, devotion, dedication and love. In his conscious and determined efforts he propelled them vertically to find a meaning place with future prospects in the society. Feeling a void in admissions and plight of arents to primary and pre primary schools, he ventured to open such a facility, which was alter discontinued As the Director Lar dos Estudantes., provided shelter to poor to study, waived off fees, even permitting to pay their dues on employment, His benevolence, charitable, kind hearted approach has left indelible happy memories on his student beneficiaries besides many others without maintaining records of financial transactions. His responsiveness towards financial and emotional needs of downtrodden was his hallmark .Fr Presntacao started a vocational typing institute with a grant for 10 typewriters and later amalgamated it with school, offering typing as the subject. Fr Presentacao was a football enthusiast and promoted school sports to the hilt along with cultural, spitritual activities. Fr. was a leader among his priestly fraternity, who looked up to him with respect and were attracted to his jovial approachable nature, treating them as equals. The Ecclesiastical Superiors too held him in high esteem He has served the faithfully parishes as was the most loved, revered and respected Pastor, He was a very successful, popular, preacher of the word of God and heard with rapt attention bringing about a change in their belief, strengthening their faith and trust in God. He was indeed a very forceful and convincing preacher, who touched the hearts and minds of his listeners. Fr. remained a devout priest, unwavered, permanently, married to Christ and his ministry .He last served the Parish and St Xavier’s High School, Velim and immediately succeeded in giving it an atmosphere of play garden that had evaded his past predecessors, His expertise, experience as the honoured teacher gave him the edge of the depth of understanding the long standing changes Fr, Presentacao among others was instrumental in establishing a foothold by Sisters of St Mary of Angels H School , starting an excluisve girls High school, who also promised to assist at the residence of Priest House at Chinchinim, as the part of the deal. Fr Presentacao hosted luncheon meet of priest that resolved the formation of the association of Chinchinim priest and the house. He pleaded with the Bishop to recommend Holy see for financial assistance, which was accepted, As the Executive Committee Member and even otherwise was actively involveled in the construction with substantial personal contribution in comparison then of Rs3635= and further raising donations from friends to the extent of Rs 8795,07 I value his advice in my reluctance and in guiding me to accept my first appointment as the Headmaster, He seemed to have had more confidence in me than I had perhaps at that time Rev Fr, Presentacao will always be treasured in

In reality, many of them are stunningly beautiful with powerful personalities to match. They dress well but not skimpily and have an overpowering presence. They are great to talk with, shy, self-effacing but confident. For all the bravado and showmanship you see in the Carnival parade, they are great business and social company. I suppose you can say that of other South Americans too - the Argentinians, Colombians, Peruvians and what have you. Wonder why the Goa Suraj Party is not considering aligning (not merging) themselves with the Goa Aam Aadmi party when that course of action would make the most sense. I am sure that GSRP has realized that on their own, they will never be in a position to effect change without either coming into power themselves or jointly or holding the swing vote on major issues voted in the assembly. I don't know how corrupt the AAP really is, but the conception is they are the least corrupt of the present bunch. And if they do become more corrupt when in power at least Floriano and his merry men can hold them in check.
