LAKHS FROM ANIL HOBLE

Acting on directions of North Goa Collector Nila Mohanan the Panaji Deputy
Collector Pundalik Khorjuvekar has through a written memorandum asked the
Mamlatdar of Tiswadi Veera Nayak to initiate necessary action to recover
from State BJP Vice President Anil Hoble the fine of twenty lakhs that was
imposed on him by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

In a letter to the North Goa Collector her attention was drawn that the six
week stay granted by the Bombay High Court at Goa on June 29th 2016 while
disposing the last petition filed by Anil Hoble had ended and that Anil
Hoble had not obtained any further stay from the Supreme Court.

The Collector has been urged to this time herself monitor the recovery
proceedings as the Panaji Mamlatdar Veera Nayak had earlier malafiedly
connived with the politically well connected Anil Hoble to subvert and
delay the process of recovering the twenty lakhs. Veera Nayak is the
daughter of Senior BJP leader Subhash Salkar.

The NGT on May 29th last year while ordering the demolition of Anil Hoble’s
illegal structures including the Hoble’s River Lounge the Bar & Restaurant
along the Ribandar-Panaji causeway for violating various provisions of the
environmental law had directed him to pay a fine of 20 lakhs within six
weeks for destroying mangroves and doing illegal land filling in violation
of law. The proceedings initiated by the Tiswadi Mamlatdar to recover the
twenty lakhs was however kept on hold on account of the stay order by the
High Court. With the last six weeks stay granted by the High Court having
ended, the decks have now cleared for the Deputy Collector to also demolish
the remaining illegal structures including Anil Hoble’s Bar and Restaurant
which was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on 1st April
2014.

LONDON: Ease of

our ability to recall information, British researchers said today.

Growing options of

outsourcing unnecessary tasks to the gadgets.

However, their scientific evidence also found the ease of access to
online

help of a computer.

"Remembering your shopping list or an appointment is not the most effective use

more space which can be used for a number of things," said Sam
Gilbert, a research
fellow in cognitive neuroscience at University College
London and
one of the authors of the review published in 'Trends in Cognitive Sciences'.

This so-called "cognitive offloading" or the use of tools to reduce the demand
on our brains should strengthen our memories but other studies the experts
considered showed

[Goanet] India's Olympians Fight Two Sets of Opponents (TOI Edit Page 19/8/16)

2016-08-18 Thread V M
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Indias-Olympians-Fight-Two-Sets-of-Opponents/articleshow/53762251.cms

Three snapshots from the XXXI Olympiad underway at Rio de Janeiro
suffice to encapsulate the entire story of India's path-breaking
performance at these SummerOlympics, where by far the nation's largest
team of athletes to ever qualify (in 15 sports) has nonetheless
prompted much handwringing and angst by repeatedly falling short of
earning medals.

The first incident involves Dutee Chand, blazing-fast 20-sprinter from
Odisha, and first Indian woman to qualify for the 100 metre sprint at
the Olympics since P T Usha 36 years ago. Just before she had to leave
for Brazil, Chand was reduced to pleading with her state government
for a new pair of spike shoes "as mine are worn out." Then, the
20-year-old was forced to fly alone to Rio (her coach denied passage)
cramped in economy class, while athletics officials sat comfortably up
front in Business. She said "I could not get proper sleep or rest. If
players are treated like this what kind of performance will we give in
the Olympics?"

Another shameful glimpse into the reality of Indian sports came when a
reporter ran into the national team's Dutch hockey coach, Roelant
Oltmans with his arms full of sticks and shoes at a sports store, even
after the Olympics had begun. The coach had tried to keep his shopping
trip secret, but then admitted his team simply didn't have the
equipment it needed to compete. Later it turned out the hockey team's
players had been forced to miss the opening ceremony - a moment many
would have waited to experience as a crowning lifetime memory -
because their official jerseys did not fit them.

Even while Indian athletes competed gutsily, though coming up just
short before they could get to the winner's podium, India's sports
minister managed to beat his own sporting contingent to the
international headlines for all the wrong reasons.Vijay Goel and his
excessively large entourage was severely reprimanded for "aggressive
and rude" behaviour, and pushing into venues without accreditation by
the Rio organizing committee, whose manager warned, "should our
protocol team be made aware of further examples of this type of
behaviour, the accreditation of your minister of sports will be
cancelled and his privileges at the Olympic Games withdrawn."

If that trio of shabby little episodes reveals a lot about one side of
the story of Indian sports, a single nasty tweet of just 140
characters from writer and gossip columnist Shobha De perfectly
summarizes the prejudices and disdain athletes like Dutee Chand have
to persevere to overcome to get to the Olympics in the first place.
According the acid-tongued socialite De, "Goal of Team India at the
Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of
money and opportunity."

It's a disgrace India's chattering classes have to be reminded the
Olympics aren't only about medals, and many true-life heroes and
champions from around the world will not return from Rio de Janeiro
with medals around their necks. As per De's odious slur, Dipa
Karmakar's hands are empty. Dutee Chand's hands are empty as are those
of the valiant Indian women's hockey team, Saina Nehwal and Sania
Mirza. But what about the sheer achievement of simply qualifying from
a country like India, where a lumpen like Vijay Goel is made sports
minister instead of the obviously qualified Rajyavardhan Singh
Rathore?

The Chinese have been observing India's Olympic travails with
interest. A few days ago, one state-run media outlet tried to analyze
why India "is the second most populous country following China, but is
getting scarce medals in the Olympic Games. Why does India rank last
in the medal rankings? Counting the last three summer games (2004
Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, if medals were compared to
population size India ranks last."

Some reasons the Chinese came up with for India's quadrennial Olympics
heartaches are familiar: widespread poverty means most people have
bigger things to worry about than sports, Indian families stress
academics not athletics, and there has never been adequate state
investment in infrastructure. But they also hit bullseye with "Indians
love [cricket] so much it has become religion-like, those who don't
like it could be regarded as pagan. Because of this, many young people
don't receive other sports training."

It is a fact that Indian cricket has become a kind of black hole into
which all sponsorship money, television and other media coverage, and
national attention is absorbed with no return to show for it
whatsoever. A non-sport that is rapidly declining in interest
everywhere outside the subcontinent, it is becoming increasingly clear
many countries and players continue only because of the cascade of
money shovelled towards them from India. It is this semi-sport that
produces Indian "winners" for the kind of people who look down on
fourth-place finishers at the Olympic

Space constraint is forcing
churches in Mumbai to opt
for green solutions for disposing of the dead. In the last six months, the St
Blaise Church, Amboli, has had at least 15 shroud burials (body wrapped in
cloth and lowered into the grave). The coffin was not used by families
voluntarily. Father Franklin Mathias, parish priest, said space constraint, the
environmental benefits and economics of a
burial without a coffin
prompted them to encourage shroud burial.

[Goanet] The Rehabilitation of Bigfoot

2016-08-18 Thread Roland
Note how our Mervyn Lobo is slowly being rehabilitated through long boring
stories like the CNBC's Bigfoot narrative. Shades of a Goan Grandma's story
told to an errant grandchild. Whatever it takes to improve him, I say.

Now for the rehab part of Mervyn Lobo. In his former avatar, he would be
yelling all over Goanet "Buy Bigfoot, Buy Bigfoot" or "Short Bigfoot, Short
Bigfoot" followed by how he made lots of money by doing one or the other.

Now, the story of Bigfoot is quietly copied with the hope that some other
person has profited over it.

Way to go Mervyn Lobo. I don't know what your next rehab step should be, but a
high school diploma might help.

[Goanet] India Medals at Rio

2016-08-18 Thread Roland
It is expected that India may end with only 2 medals at this Olympics.

An Indian female wrestler Sakshi Malik has won bronze and P.V. Sandhu a
shuttler, also female, is assured of a silver.

No other medal is even optimistically expected. That will be a poor showing as
compared with the 3 silver and 3 bronze won in London in 2012.

Indians are nevertheless hoping for a medal or two in Men's Wrestling during
the remaining few days.

[Goanet] Fraudulent activities carried out by Ozone Leisure and Resort Pvt Ltd through Vaxi self help group to pass the Project in Investment Promotion Board

2016-08-18 Thread Sebastian
www.bharatmukti.blogsapot.in/2016/08/fraudulent-activites-carried-on.by.html

18th August 2016

To,
The Chief Minister and the Chairperson,
Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board,
Secretariat, Porvorim, Goa

Subject: Fraudulent activities carried out by Ozone Leisure and Resort Pvt Ltd
through Vaxi self help group to pass the Project in Investment Promotion Board

Sir,

We have already conveyed our strong objections to bring Vanxim Island under the
purview of Goa Investment Promotion Act 2014. We have made our point clear in
two of our letters to you datedApril 11, 2016 and May23, 2016. We are also in
receipt of letter from Chief Executive Officer, Goa Investment Promotion &
Facilitation Board (Goa – IPB) dated May 11, 2016.

We have also written our objections to letter dated December 12, 2015 from Vaxi
self help group. However in response to our letter dated May 23, 2016
criticizing the contents of the Vaxi self help group we have come to know of
and examined another letter to Goa - IPB office dated June 02, 2016 by the name
of “The Villagers of Vanxim (Capao)”. In this respect we wish to submit the
following:-

1.We have examined Memorandum of Association of “Vaxi self help group” from
the office of the District Registrar, North Goa, Panjim. This group is
registered on October 24, 2011 under The Societies Registration Act, 1860 and
bears registration number 1076/Goa/2011.
2.The memorandum of Association of Vaxi self help group has address
registered as Mansi M. Parab, H.No.39, Sao Mathias, Post office, Piedade,
Diwar, Vanxim-Ilhas-Goa.
3.We have also taken note of the address on the letterhead of the Vaxi self
help group letter dated 12/12/2015 addressed to the Chief Minister of Goa with
the subject “Representation to favorably consider the proposal made by Ozone
Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd. for the Hotel and Resort Project at Village
Capao, Taluka Tiswadi”. The address mentioned here is different from the
address in the registration documents cited above. Here the address of Vaxi
self help group is recorded as c/o House no.72, Vanxim, P.O. Piedade Ilhas, Goa
– 403403.
4.This House no.72, Vanxim as per records of the Sao Mathias Panchayat is
recorded in the name of Mahendra Gaunekar who has stakes in proposed Vanxim
tourism projects of Ozone. In addition it is Mahendra Gaunekar who is involved
in controversial land deals with the office of the Archbishop of Goa to
purchase and sell the same to Ozone Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd. It is clear
that Vaxi self help group has been hoodwinked by Mahendra Gaunekar and Ozone
Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd in combination with each other in order to
manufacture support for the corporate misadventures on our island of Vanxim.
This is a case of direct manipulation in favor of Mahendra Gaunekar and Ozone
Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd. The dictionary meaning of the word ‘manipulation’
is as follows: “A change made for ones own purpose or advantage”. There is no
other explanation.
5.This tie up of Vaxi self help group with Mahendra Gaunekar - Ozone
Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd is not only unethical but also illegal violating
group’s memorandum of association Aims and Objective no. 07 that seeks “to
promote co-operation and friendly relations with the other societies with the
object and aim similar to this society.” The Ozone Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd
is not a society but a Company. Hence this is violation of Vaxi self help group
Memorandum of Association.
6.We also note that considering writing of letter dated 12/12/2015 to Chief
Minister of Goa in support of Ozone Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd is beyond the
legal limits of activities of Self help group. It is understood that Mahendra
Gaunekar and Ozone Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd is using the letterhead of Vaxi
self help group to manufacture public support for themselves.
7.Further we have observed from the letter dated 11/05/2016 from the Goa
IPB Chief Executive Officer addressed to Ms Maggie Silveira, Bharat Mukti
Morcha that in-principle approval to convert Capao (Vanxim) land as settlement
zone to set up five star hotel and villas by Ozone Leisure and Resorts Pvt. Ltd
wasgranted in a the 8th meeting of the Goa Investment Promotion Board held on
14/12/2015. While the letter of the Vaxi self help group is addressed to Chief
Minister of Goa in this regard is datedtwo days prior to the meeting i.e.
12/12/2015. There is no date of entry as to when this letter from Vaxi self
help group was received by Chief Minister’s office and how this letter landed
up in the file of records without official entry. So there is high level of
manipulation evident from the dynamics of the process of in-principal approval
granted which is a big fraud.
8.We have also noted the description of Vaxi self help group offered on
record by its President Mrs. Manasi Parab. In her letter dated 23rd May, 2016
to the Police Inspector, Old Goa Police

[Goanet] Et tu, Bosco?

2016-08-18 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
2017 is going to be a great year for tiatr, the real thing which we are
privileged to witness only every four years unlike the other which is an
important and vital part of Goan culture. It does get a bit hectic
occasionally but as everyone knows, it is inferior to the
once-every-four-year variety.

When Shakespeare wrote all the world is a stage and all the men and women
merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in
his time plays many parts he was, I believe, thinking of our Goan
politicians. No tiatr is as unpredictable in a hundred and one ways as our
Goan political tiatr and no actor as skillful as our Goan politician.
Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan please ride in the back of the bus.

And, of course, this political tiatr is free; there is no entrance ticket
and the majority of voters who vote as well as others who don't need not
pay for it at all. Zero tolerance if someone wants to sell a ticket. It's
free! And, of course, voters will also receive presents from Santa Claus
even though it isn't X'mas and they have been bad boys and girls all
through the year.

Unfortunately, in the next four years these same people will have to pay
through their noses which will be badly bruised but seldom cut off fully.
Thank god for small mercies. Nowadays, as even school children know, there
is no shortage of saviors whose mission and one and only goal in life is to
save Goa.

The show will soon begin, are you ready? This year's tiatr theme is
Mahagatbandan and includes an all-star caste of people who are willing to
dance and even go to bed with the devil if there is something in it for
them. As they say, unity in diversity: the latter in fact is a facade which
allows everyone to say what they think without having to think at all about
what they will say; and unity, of course, is the hidden agenda which some
of our critics love to tell us is not so hidden! The less said about it the
better.

And, no doubt, we are all good people; all of us. Religion is ever so
popular in Goa and much safer than spirituality. It is highly recommended
as it involves going to a house of god once a week on a holiday or maybe
every day - Christian, Hindu or Muslim for an hour or two. In a house of
god - it is no secret - money transaction are not allowed which is good
news as the issue of honesty or dishonesty is completely irrelevant. No
Question Hour, here.

The real world and business begins the minute the religionists steps
outside the house of god. Spiritually, sadly, involves doing the right
thing twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Who can keep up with the
demands? And so, spirituality loses and religion is the winner.

If god has a job to do today, it is this: save Goa from the Goans!

Roland Francis,
Just a few days ago Cecil politely suggested that you concentrate on what
you are really good at - nostalgia - and stay away from the rest. You were
unable or chose not to decipher his simple message. Some time ago, half a
dozen people openly pointed and laughed at you when you claimed that there
were tigers in Canada. You could have taken the honorable way out and
thanked/apologized to those who made the effort to point you in the right
direction but instead you decided to do a Donald Trump.

I tried to point out to you, two days ago, the blunder that everyone else
saw - but you thought it was a spelling mistake. You also thought that
George Bush (43), referred to his age :-) Try looking for your two day old
blunder again, Roland. If you are still stuck, consider hiring the services
of a Grade 5 Canadian student. S/he will have no problem identifying what
your tired eyes cannot.

As far as financial wizardry is concerned, I have a gem for you. In fact, I
am sure you will be able to duplicate the success of the the gentleman in
the following story. For those of you who are not familiar with Bigfoot -
it is a mythical creature like a unicorn, mermaid or dare I say it,

The mystery of how a company set up to search for Bigfoot hit a $10 billion
value
By Eamon Javers and Mark Fahey
CNBC.com
17 August, 2016

Tom Biscardi said he has personally seen Bigfoot seven times in 45 years.
But that isn't the most surprising thing about him.

No, the most surprising thing about Biscardi is that he is the CEO and
controlling shareholder of a company that had a market capitalization on
Wednesday morning of more than $10 billion, according to FactSet, a widely
used data provider that tracks publicly traded companies. What does that
company do?

Biscardi's company is in the, um, big business of Bigfoot.

Figuring out just how a company like that came to have a market
capitalization listed at more than $10 billion is a mystery worthy of
Bigfoot himself.

It begins in the woods, as all good Yeti stories do. Biscardi told CNBC on
Tuesday that his first encounter with a Bigfoot came on a creature-finding
expedition in Northern California in 1973. He said he saw a large hairy
monster squatting by a chokecherry bush, eating. It had a hairy face that
looked almost human, and the creature had berry juice all over its mouth.
As it stood up, it turned and looked directly at the explorers, Biscardi
recalled.

"I got to tell you something, I nearly s--t."

Grambo Grambo | First Light | Getty Images

Bigfoot?!

Not to worry. The beast did not harm Biscardi. He survived the encounter
and says he went on to spot Bigfoot six more times, lead expeditions across
the country, produce a variety of videos and help launch a website on which
he is referred to as the "Godfather of Bigfoot."

In 2013, the company Biscardi controls filed an S-1 form and registered
with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The stock ticker: BGFT, of
course.

The company is officially named Bigfoot Project Investments Inc., and it is
what's known on Wall Street as a "pink sheets" firm. That means it is an
over-the-counter stock traded in the OTC's least-regulated and
least-scrutinized market. On its website, OTC Markets describes the pink
sheets market as home to penny stocks, shell corporations and "distressed,
delinquent, and dark companies" that are not able or willing to provide
adequate information to investors.

This netherworld of stocks has attracted increased scrutiny this week in
the wake of the SEC's decision to suspend trading in another
over-the-counter stock: Neuromama, a Tijuana, Mexico-based company with a
murky business model that somehow achieved a staggering $35 billion market
capitalization. But for SEC enforcement personnel, finding and eliminating
such companies can be a lot like the work Biscardi does hunting for
Bigfoot: a slow, painstaking accumulation of evidence, often with very
little to show for it.

The Bigfoot company is in a different category than Neuromama. It is active
and making current filings with the SEC — the most recent on Aug. 9. On the
OTC Markets website there are no markings on Bigfoot's stock chart that
indicate potential problems, such as the skull and crossbones "Buyer

In the world of the Indian "police machinery", a phrase popular in India for
police functioning, it was always known that a large part of the bribes taken
by the lower ranks was shunted not only to the station heads but even upwards
to divisional and regional brass.

But this case which follows a couple of other nationally reported cases, shows
a new trend. It used to be that whatever was given was taken, with an eagle eye
kept to avoid 'skimming' at the lower rungs. But now the brass are setting
goals, unrealistically to boot, according to the dead Sub Inspector. He even
had to take loans to meet his numbers!

How much more pervasive can corruption get?

The second paragraph of Eugene's post below demonstrates the pidgin English to
which I previously referred.

Making sense of it will tax anyone's sanity. So I have to ask: which University
did Eugene get his graduate degree? Did he get an undergrad degree before that
or did he get ATKT (allowed to keep terms)?

Hope he doesn't say his MA was from Bombay U,, because if he does, I and many
of that alma mater in Canada will have to crawl through a hole in the ground.

[Goanet] Goanet: WHETHER AAP IS A GENUINE PARTY FOR GOANS OR NOT?

2016-08-18 Thread Stephen Dias
STATEMENT AND COMMENTS MADE BY ME BASED ON NIZ GOENKAR SITE TODAY'S
EDITION IS HEREBY COPIED FOR THE PUBLIC VIEW AND AAP LEADERS TO REPLY.
-
Above comments on AAP is a divided opinion made in Niz Goenkar of today's (
18th Aug) news edition. Among all the comments read by me on Aires
Rodrigues article, lambasting AAP party , only Zeferino Fernandes said
politely, very clear and worth accepting.
I think, Aires-bab should have done a better home work before making it
public his statement against AAP. May be his opinion is right but he needs
to substantiate. Whether he has an anger on certain AAP Goa leaders is
unknown or whether he is playing dirty tricks is also unknown. But the
ground reality is that BJP must go and also the Congress, unless miracles
takes place from the Congress High Command and Goans accept it. It is very
remote to think at this stage.
DR. Oscar Rebelo and Valmiki Naik tall leaders from AAP, whether they have
connectivity with RSS or not, must give a suitable reply to Aires or else
they are coward. Public must know at this juncture although there is no
time left with, for the forthcoming election 2017 and the public at large
is in dilemma whether they need to vote for AAP or not. Please anybody in
future do not make statement like what Aires did because Goans will be the
sufferers unless there is strong proof or evidence. Already there is a
move from the sympathizers, admirers, supporters and those volunteers who
are campaigning for AAP distributing caps, leaflets and making speeches
door to door whether to come out from AAP group,
or continue canvasing.
Arvind Kejriwal must take this message as serious whether AAP should
contest with vigor or not under these circumstances. If they are the
B-team of BJP as per Aires than saffron party will surely win as AAP will
tend to break the votes.
I was surprised how Gomantak Times accepted Aires letter when they
themselves have reported a survey done by Kautilya prediction group in
the front page, and my immediate letter/reply supporting AAP fail to
publish in the same paper i,.e Gomantak Times? Surprising !
 Is it a JOKE?
