[Goanet] CM Parikar shows the way

2017-03-23 Thread Nelson Lopes
CM Parikar shows the way

It is proved beyond doubt that as an individual he has demonstrated at
large that ultimate sacrifice in the party interests are supreme and by
swift decision. He has resigned from the most prestigious an powerful
ministry of defense no Goan has ever held so far and is most unlikely in
the near future, Following party directives earlier he bowed to the wishes
of the party to resign as the CM and joined Defense Ministry, reluctantly

We the voters supporters of aging Congress fins such commitment to the
party is non existence, They are all glued for self interests and further
their prospects only, What explains desertion by the likes of Madaikar,
Mauvin Godinho and now Visvajit Rane popularly termed as Judas Iscariot
Their ambitions are crystal clear Many others have anchored in the harbor
of Congress, including Luizinho, who flirted briefly with Goa Congress .How
many more are waiting in the wings to abandoned the sinking ship, out of
power and being unemployed for ten years ?.Delay in electing CLP is history
now that raised stink of ego politics ..The choice of less heard of Babu
Kavlekar has resulted in wide fissures of turmoil and internal discontent,
in stead of rallying around the official candidates and sending the message
of unity .The concoction and mix of old and new as elixir of success has
not satisfied as rumours suggested that youthful brigade is waiting to
strike another blow of disintegration of elected MLA`s

The MGP members seniors and loyal soldiers have swallowed their pride of
being ignored in the Ministry with no public outburst Michael Lobo is an
exception, though mild and without the threat of resigning and will soon
accept the un acceptable. The new speaker without experience also is
elected with public silence. Most of the Ministerial posts are allotted to
the coalition parternes, leaving mere two openings for BJP, and yet where
are public claims and loud protests of dissatisfaction ?.All such
fissaparous

tendencies are smothered by leader effectively Remember the new Minister
have fought fearlessly against BJP candidates and mauled them badly Now
they will have to bow down to their sworn enemies , shake hands and
obediently genuflect to the masters

The discipline of BJP members controlled or silenced with threats does not
matter. What is apparent is the survival of the party, sacrifice of
personal interests, saving party from jaws of defeat and outright rejection
of CM, 7 Ministers and all independents who embraced the BJP a la Judas
Iscariot, the traitor, biblical character. It is forgone conclusion that
influential Ministries are with and will reamain with CM and that he will
monitor , remote control all decision. The turn coats will simply
acquiesce for another revolt will ruin them completely. It is hoped that
Congress will provide a united spirited opposition under the leader of CLP
and remain as the flock to win the appreciation of voters and trust

The leadership of CM, to keep his BJP flock intact way from temptations
,ability to take time bound rational decision, strong but authoritarian
streak in administration, monitoring every ministry personally should be
the envy of Congress leadership aspiring for the front office and worthy
of emulation

Has the rank and file, party leadership accused CM of any wrong acts,
unethical doing, but on the contrary, slowly and certainly in a calculated
manner the leadership is crucified and accused of the fiasco to take reigns
of office with sizable numbers

[Goanet] A BIG U-TURN ON THE CARD?

2017-03-23 Thread Stephen Dias
There are rumours in the BJP wing that previous BJP candidates are not
satisfied with the recent cabinet formation by Parrikar panel since Non
BJP's are accommodated in the cabinet like GFP ,MPG and Independent who
were given lucrative position and also made Ministers in the cabinet by
bypassing sincere BJP mla's.
Dy. CM Francisco Souza had no choice but to remain as Yes Sir in the
party and always found praising the BJP party. He missed several
opportunities even the position of becoming Chief Minister which went to
Parsekar.And now Francis
has accepted the party's stand that Mr. Parrikar should be the CM.
Now in case the present ministry does not survive because his own
lieutenants who cannot be trusted at all as we have recent proof that the
President of GFP Prabhakar Timble has resigned as they ( Vijay and
others elected members of the GFP ) have become traitors to their own
 party.
I am afraid that there is every chance that Vijai and Co. will deceive
Parrikar and join the Congress party.
So, Mr. Parrikar please be aware.
This is my personal view.

[Goanet] Manohar Parrikar as Defence Minister ... two views (Scroll.in, TheWire.in)

2017-03-23 Thread Goanet Reader
OPINION

Cutting the hype: There wasn't really much to Manohar
Parrikar's stint as defence minister

With the Prime Minister's
Office holding much of the
reins, there wasn't much the
Goa chief minister could do.

After 28 months as the Union Minister of Defence, Manohar
Parrikar returned to Goa as its chief minister last week, a
post he had reluctantly vacated in 2014 when he was shifted
to Delhi after the Bharatiya Janata Party won the national
elections. Parrikar's departure from the Cabinet, after the
BJP staked claim over the government in Goa that saw a hung
Assembly, generated a flurry of fawning articles that almost
described him as the greatest defence minister ever.

But lost in the din of the largely positive coverage was a
dichotomy: if he was such a great defence minister, why was
Prime Minister Narendra Modi allowing him to leave for a
state that has only two seats in the Lok Sabha and barely
makes a blimp on national politics? Wasn't national security
much bigger than state politics, especially for a party that
has made nationalism its key calling card?

There is little doubt that Parrikar brought fresh
energy and a lot of integrity to the ministry that
has usually been the hub of scandals for decades.
But his purported achievements make for a rather
boring, if not depressing picture. In short, there
were a bunch of committees, some purchases, two key
foreign policy agreements and some controversial
  statements.

Looking West

If there is any key achievement during his 28-month-stint at
the helm, it was the signing of the Logistics Exchange
Memorandum of Agreement, or LEMOA -- an agreement for close
military cooperation -- with the US in August. In many ways,
this was a major departure from India's foreign policy
objective to avoid any military pact with a foreign power.

The move was almost as much of a divergence as the decision
to invite the Japanese Navy to participate in the Malabar
naval exercises, that have been conducted with the US every
year since 1992. The fact that the Japanese and US share
India's concerns on China’s maritime ambitions was not lost.
Not only did this see naval ships from the three nations
exercise jointly but also its Naval Special Forces coming
together, setting a new bar to the annual effort.

But can Parrikar be credited with a foreign policy initiative
that, under the current regime, has largely been the preserve
of the Prime Minister's Office? Clearly, this was Parrikar
going along with a major policy shift towards increased
cooperation that has been crafted by Modi.

This was also seen in the mysterious move to cancel
the order for a 126 Rafale fighter aircraft from
France and instead buy 36 at almost the same cost.
This inexplicable move was announced when Prime
Minister Modi was on a trip to France in 2015 and
it is safe to assume that Parrikar was not in the
  loop when the announcement came.

There were a flurry of articles justifying this piecemeal
purchase of 36 aircraft when the Indian Air Force clearly
needed much more. In some ways, the Prime Minister's Office
had subsumed the defence and external affairs ministries, the
two departments it shares space with in South Block.

This, to a degree, also explains the nature of the
relationship Parrikar shared with Modi. The Goa
chief minister was one of the first BJP leaders to
openly support Modi as the party's prime
ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,
long before others ditched veteran leader LK
Advani. Parrikar did it with conviction because he
believed that Modi was the future. A senior BJP
leader explained their relationship as follows:
"There is a mutual respect shared by the two, and
Parrikar accepts Modi as the clear leader, and was
always happy to play a second or even a fourth
fiddle to him, depending on what the circumstances
were. This also worked well for the prime
  minister".

Technocrat in office

The fact that Parrikar was from the Indian Institute of
Technology, Bombay had added to his mystique even when he
took over the reins as the Chief Minister of Goa for the
first time in 2002. He was the quintessential technocrat who
would suddenly leave office in his Hyundai Santro to inspect
government works in different parts of the state. Parrikar
brought the same attitude to the defence ministry, which came
to be appreciated and resented at the same time. A number of
officials spoke about how Parrikar would often remind them
about his IIT heritage, especially when contentious issues
were under discussion.

But a seasoned politician would have been able to
navigate the defence ministry maze better. Instead,
Parrikar remained angular on contentious issues. He

Power Yogi: How Baba Ramdev became India's swadeshi FMCG baron
>From Televangelist yoga contortionist to anti-corruption crusader to
swadeshi business baron, the remarkable rise of Baba Ramdev.

July 13, 2016 |

[image: Baba Ramdev in the herb warehouse at Haridwars Patanjali food park]

The sun is about to set behind the forests on the outskirts of Haridwar.
The downpour of the previous night has made it a relatively pleasant summer
evening. The silence in one of India's most guarded ashrams - CRPF
personnel frisk you every time you enter the premises - is punctuated by
the sound of a fountain in the middle of the manicured lawn, and of a swing
in the verandah of an M-shaped cottage. In the saffron hues of dusk, a
saffron-clad yogi is sitting on the swing. His eyes are closed, as if
meditating to find the answer to the simplest, most obvious, and somehow
the trickiest question posed to him: why is a self-proclaimed renunciate
selling shampoo, toothpaste, detergent and anti-ageing cream?

*In pictures: Behind the scenes of that internet-breaking Ramdev cover*

When he opens his eyes, the lopsided smile and the mischievous glint in the
eyes are gone. "When I went to the Himalayas in my youth, I saw many sadhus
who had given up the materialistic life. But what were they doing? Nothing
for the welfare of mankind. That cannot be the purpose of life. In India,
it's believed that sadhus can't do anything; they are supposed to live on
donations. It hurt me. The real goal of a sadhu is not to attain moksha for
himself but to serve the masses. My business is not for profit but to
spread wellness," says Baba Ramdev, 48, India's most celebrated yoga guru,
who is riding high on a heady, hitherto untasted cocktail of yoga, satsang,
ayurveda, business and politics.

Ramdev stands out from all other gurus on the Indian social spectrum not
just because of the size of his burgeoning FMCG empire - worth Rs 5,000
crore at last count - but also because he wears his political inclinations
on his sleeve. He purportedly has a direct line to Prime Minister Narendra
Modi , and is
close to several members of the Cabinet and a number of chief ministers
across the land. He was one of the key figures of the Lokpal movement in
2011, was received at the airport by then finance minister Pranab Mukherjee
as the UPA government tried to broker a deal with its leader Anna Hazare,
and cut a comical figure when he was taken into custody at the Ramlila
grounds in Delhi while trying to escape dressed in a salwar kameez. He is
an advocate of replacing the tax system with a single transaction tax. He
kickstarted the black money drive that became one of the key campaign
promises of the BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. And he now stands as a
major support booster for the Modi-led NDA government. When he isn't
slamming those who returned government awards in protest of alleged
intolerance, he is threatening to chop off the head of anyone who refuses
to chant 'Bharat mata ki jai'. From drug abuse in Punjab to the spiritual
health of the relationship between a husband and wife, and from the
purported horrors of homosexuality (which he can help "cure") to the
importance of buying desi, the guru's discourses encompass a vast universe.

*Cover uncovered: Here's all you need to know about the Ramdev asana
breaking the internet*

With his corporate empire growing over 100 per cent last year, he isn't the
first businessman to cultivate political relationships to grow further. Nor
is he the first spiritual guru with a political network. What makes him
unique is that he is the first one to seamlessly blend all three -
spiritualism, business and politics. His political spectrum grows because
of the authority he commands in the realm of spiritualism and yoga, which
in turn forms the springboard for his business empire. Ramdev is today
India's most televised guru, with an FMCG product line that directly
connects with the masses - capable, at the same time, of influencing
hearts, minds, votes and skin tones.

*PACKAGE GURU*

Ramdev's definition of "wellness" may be debatable, but his sales pitch of
packaging yoga and Ayurveda as an instant, 30-minute remedy to all
lifestyle ailments has allowed him to emerge as the flagbearer of Indian
spiritualism-both ethereal and material. "There have been yoga gurus before
me but I simplified the practice to a few steps for an average person
hard-pressed for time," he says.

That's not all he's done. With nearly 1 million active followers and
thousands watching Ramdev on Aastha channel every day, his foray into the
FMCG sector through Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, incorporated in 2009, has caused

[Goanet] MISERABLE VERDICT OF GOA ELECTION WITH TURN AND TWISTS

2017-03-23 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Devika Sequeira,

I read your last letters/mails and I fully agree what you have said about
the recent politics in Goa.
Politics is a dirty word and hopeless game, but what to do it is the
constitution makes people dance from one leg to an another leg and thus
fool the people. It is we are at the receiving end and we dance with their
tunes of these dirty politicians who are greedy for money, Red Beacon and
power.
Pratapsing Rane was right not to accept the Leader of Opposition position
and gave to a much junior in politics Babu Kavlekar .So far nobody knows
what he will do there. Although Sr.Rane is old grand father in the
Congress he should have a courtesy to stay at home and taken rest. When
he cannot control his own son Viswajeet how could he control children of
Congress.? . He has a divided house at home itself.
This idiot Viswajeet does he not realized that he is damaging his own
family reputation ? And also the Congress? When he knew Congress had a
majority he could have created wonders and even tried to become Health
Minister and taken charge of GMC. Will Parrikar leave him free? . He will
always be tied up with big ropes. Parrikar is wise man and he will keep
him always under his toes. Viswajeet life is now miserable like of Vijai
in politics and will be ended soon. They will never will be able to jump
again to Congress even they wishes so, by the time his father may say
goodbye for him forever. That means Jr. Rane will be out for ever at Satari
and his own constituency.
Bye Bye all these idiots including Michael Lobo who is man behind of all
these manipulations and greed for power. Francisco Sousa is another Hindu-
Catholic guy who always playing his tune but does he knows that that BJP
is using him for their own personal interest? From No 2 as Dy CM, reached
to No 4 and wait for another term he would be zero.. BJP is planning for
Hindutava and that is the reason all Catholics in BJP ministry are wiped
out systematically. Hi and Dry . Alina is the lone lady who is after love
of Parrikar knowingly that may be the cause of her husband living the
world. But probably now, she may have to be out of Ministership, as the
crowd of allies are piling up and pressurizing Parrikar to become
Ministers.Babush Monseratte now is trying another trick, for By-
election at St Cruz as his disciple Tony will be leaving the seat to
accommodate him so that Babush gets elected in St Cruz which I doubt,
than he will support Parrikar because Sidhath will also be leaving Panjim
for By- election and that Parrikar will control Panjim and Babush will be
the King of CCP . What Babush wants is that Sidharth is out from Panjim
than Babush is a King and with the help of Surendra Furtado doing all the
dirty tricks for the Press statement to convince Panjimites. Except St Inez
Creek all the three mosquitiers will never be able to clean the gutters of
Panjim and especially the St Inez Creek which is dominated by big builders
like Dukle Heaven and others who have big rise buildings and the migrants
populations alongwith the Creek who are continuous discharging the sewage
into the creek
Now people of Goa must be wise and intelligent to understand all these
tricks of politicians and show them the right place where they can take
rest whether in heaven or at home.I am still keeping my fingers crossed
that Parrikar and Monserrate may not win the By-elections if voters wants
that way.
WILL WAIT AND SEE THE OUTCOME OF BY ELECTIONS.

[Goanet] FR BISMARQUE DIAS LYING IN MORGUE FOR OVER 16 MONTHS: GHRC SUMMONS CS, DGP AND DEAN OF GMC

2017-03-23 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) headed by retired District Judge
A.D.Salkar and comprising of Mr.J.A Keny has summoned the Chief Secretary,
Director General of Police and the Dean of Goa Medical College to appear on
April 3rd to explain as to why the body of late Fr. Bismarque Dias is lying
in the morgue at the Goa Medical College for over 16 months and the final
rites yet not conducted.

The GHRC directions came after a complaint was filed pointing out that
since 7th November 2015 the decomposed body of late Fr. Bismarque Dias who
was found dead at St Estevam is languishing in the morgue of the Goa
Medical College at Bambolim.

Pointing out that with all the forensic tests done and the viscera report
having been received the mortal remains are not required for any further
examination, in the complaint it has been submitted that Fr Bismarque Dias
who so selflessly, dedicatedly and tirelessly toiled for Goa must be given
a fitting farewell and laid to rest with all due respect to the great
departed soul.

It is very distressing that for no reason the body of Fr Bismarque Dias
remains consigned for over 16 months in the very unhygienic and regularly
malfunctional morgue which is also infested with a huge brigade of rats and
other rodents.

Fr Bismarque Dias’s last rites cannot wait any longer and if nobody claims
his body to hold the last rites it would be a social responsibility to
ensure that his human right is not any further violated.

Attention of the GHRC was drawn that the Supreme Court in a recent judgment
has held that even in death a person has dignity and when one is dead
deserves to be treated with human dignity it being a basic human right.

The State Government cannot shy away from its duty in ensuring the disposal
of the body and is duty bound to conduct the last rites according to the
religious customs of the deceased or his last wishes if any. The Goa
Medical College having Rules and Standing Instructions for disposal of a
cadaver, such kind of disrespect to late Fr Bismarque Dias cannot be
tolerated a moment longer.

In the complaint it has been sought that the Chief Secretary, Director
General of Police and the Dean of Goa Medical College be directed to
explain as to what steps they plan to take to ensure that the mortal
remains of the late Fr Bismarque Dias are laid to rest.
