[Goanet] Honesty in action

2017-07-18 Thread Nelson Lopes
Honesty in action

Mr Subash Marthiholimath, cashier at Karnataka Bank, Margao, choose to put
honesty in action, I withdrew some cash and did not bother to verify it.
Late in the evening a telephone alert asked me to check the amount. It is
only then that I realized that disbursed amount was short by Rs 10,000= and
requested me to collect it the next day. It is pertinent to note that just
a few days back there was altercation with the cashier in the cabin of the
Manager. In spite of natural hurt feelings, he chose to display exemplary
virtue of honesty and rectitude, which is praise worthy. The Manager has
been informed in writing about exemplary behavior of the cashier with a
copy to the cashier along with a THANK YOU note May his tribe increase

[Goanet] FROM A PARRIKAR TO A PARRIKAR

2017-07-18 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Letter to Manohar Parrikar from Rajan Parrikar

Dear Manohar-bab,

Please resign, go away, and spend time with your family and grandchildren.

As your true friend I bring you some bad tidings, and a piece of
unsolicited advice.

Your credibility is today in the toilet, your reputation stained, your
legacy one of corruption and incompetence.

The only people who believe what comes out of your mouth are your family,
your chamchas, and a washed up drama queen who is internationally famous in
Ghatkopar (W). You have lost the support of even your own bamon community,
although most of its members will only admit it privately.

You wrecked Goa. To be sure, you didn’t do it alone. For decades the people
we elected have let us down. In March 2012 you were given a mandate to
correct course. It was the last gasp for Goa. But you continued to roll in
the same gutter.

Under your administration, Goa has been sold to the casino dons. You have
shown no regard for Goa’s environment or for the well being of the common
Goan. Because of you, pigs from Delhi now contaminate our villages and
continue to gobble up scarce Goan real estate. Goa has attracted the WORST
kind of Indians. We don’t get the best. Construction activity continues
unabated displacing Goans, pricing them out of the homeland of their
ancestors.

Law and order in Goa have hit another low. On every front, you have been a
disaster. After such a wretched record, why do you want to stay on?

This is the right time for you to resign. The ONLY way your image will be
rehabilitated is through the power of contrast. Goa is going to continue
its slide into the bottomless Indian sewer. If you quit now, your successor
politicians will muck up so badly that Goans may, in some years, regard
your time in office as less harmful (as incredulous as that may sound).

So take my well-meaning advice: throw in the towel and retire. You will be
the better for it.

[Goanet] Sixteenth Sunday of the Year

2017-07-18 Thread Jude Botelho
18-Jul-2017
Dear Friend,
There are times when we get angry and upset with God because he doesn’t seem to
be acting fast enough. We are faced with so many problems and difficulties and
we feel we can see the solution and we wonder why God is not doing anything
about it. If only we could take charge we would act immediately and set things
right! We are reminded today that God is in charge and He does all things well
with his infinite patience and wisdom. Let’s be grateful to God for his
patience with us and his providential care! -Fr. Jude.
Sun Ref. XVI Sunday: “Our God is patient and accomplishes all things in His
time!”23-Jul-2017Wisdom 12: 13, 16-19;          Rom. 8: 27-28;          Matt.
13: 24-43;

The first reading from the book of Wisdom praises God for his care of all
peoples and for judging all things justly. God shows his strength when people
doubt the completeness of his power and his wise judgements. God could act
instantly if he wanted all peoples to act according to his will alone. But God
is patient and merciful and gives mankind the freedom to make mistakes and to
undo the damage done. With forbearance he leads us and governs us. We thank God
that he is not like us!
Patience does itWilma Rudolph was the 20th of 22 children. She was born
prematurely and her survival was doubtful. When she was four years old, she
contracted double pneumonia and scarlet fever, which left her with a paralyzed
left leg. At age 9, she removed the metal leg brace she had been dependent on
and began to walk without it. By 13 she had developed a rhythmic walk, which
doctors said was a miracle. That same year she decided to become a runner. She
entered a race and came last. For the next few years every race she entered,
she came in last. Everyone told her to quit, but she kept on running. One day
she actually won a race. And then another. From then on she won every race she
entered. Eventually this little girl, who was told she would never walk again,
went to win three Olympic gold medals.Jack Canfield in ‘A 2nd. Helping of
Chicken Soup for the Soul’
In today’s Gospel Jesus speaks to the crowds in parables. Jesus is speaking
about an issue that confronts us: Why is there good and evil in this world? Why
does God permit evil? Nature itself provides many metaphors for the kingdom of
God. In the first parable the farmer does not weed his field because that might
also damage the good plants. Similarly, faith communities are made up of
imperfect individuals at various stages of spiritual growth. God does not
‘prune’ the community of believers but waits patiently for individuals to
change and let the goodness in them bloom forth. Like the farmer, God knows
that things are not always what they first appear to be. God is patient,
allowing us time to mature and reveal our truer selves. Given time we might
turn out to be something very good. It is hard to trust the slow work of God.
Perhaps when we grow frustrated with the world and wonder why God doesn’t seem
to be acting, we can reflect on his patience with us. If we do that we might be
able to cooperate more deeply in the slow work of God that will make all things
right in God’s own time. The parable of the mustard seed and the leaven shows
that something quite small can have a very large effect. Our God, while doing
great and magnificent things, is also the God of small things! Some of the
greatest saints had humble beginnings and spent their lives doing ‘little’
things. The kingdom of God is really like a mustard seed or a pinch of yeast.
What makes you what you areStephen Grant, a research scientist who had made
several medical breakthroughs was being interviewed and asked: What set him so
far apart from others? He responded that in his opinion, it all came from an
experience with his mother that occurred when he was two years old. He had been
trying to remove a bottle of milk from the refrigerator when he lost his grip
on the slippery bottle and it fell, spilling its contents all over the kitchen
floor. When his mother came into the kitchen, instead of yelling at him, she
said, “Robert, what a great and wonderful mess you have made! I have rarely
seen such a huge puddle of milk. Well, the damage has already been done. Would
you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it
up?” Indeed he did. After a few minutes, his mother said, “You know, Robert,
whenever you make a mess like this, you have to clean it up and restore
everything to its proper order. So how would you like to do that? He chose the
sponge and together they cleaned up the spilled milk. His mother then said,
“You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to effectively carry
a big milk bottle with two tiny hands. Let’s go in the back yard and discover a
way to carry it without dropping it. The little boy learned that if he grasped
the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without
