[Goanet] THE ONE AND ONLY VISHNU WAGH

2017-10-20 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Over the last four decades I have always endeavoured to do whatever
possible for the betterment of our beloved Goa, for the good of Goans as a
human community.

But now, at 57, the call of my conscience is to take up cudgels for an
individual, the tallest amongst us and the embodiment of the best that are
-- Vishnu Surya Wagh.

Indeed it is my biggest challenge to unchain my dear friend from that
malicious F.I.R slapped on him by a very insensitive goverment when he is
so very indefensible & languishing in a very precarious state of health.

When our Police refuse to register other FIRs, some of them with very grave
implications for our life and liberty, this one was promptly registered,
at the drop of a hat. We all know why and how this was done, and who is
behind this move.

Vishnu Wagh's contribution to Goa is enormous. After having used and
misused him to usurp power in 2012, Manohar Parrikar could not have flushed
his former colleague like toilet paper down the gutters. So the crafty
rigmarole of 'foul language' in poetry, etc. and helping hand of some
sanctimonious ones.

My last vivid interaction with Vishnu was two years ago at the Emerald
lawns in Parra at my friend, Michael Lobo's birthday.

Come what may, delivering Justice to our now bedridden Vishnu Wagh will be
the main thrust of my effort and, hopefully, should be the committment of
every Goan.

Let us please keep our Goa's literary Jewel Vishnu Wagh in our thoughts and
prayers. Justice will prevail over that gross injustice inflicted on this
courageous, brave and innocent soul who has always been a True Goenkar.

[Goanet] AIFF REPORT: AFRICAN COACHES RUE YOUNGSTERS LOSING PATHWAY TO ‘GLITZ AND GLAMOUR’ IN EUROPE

2017-10-20 Thread AIFF Media
Dear Colleagues,

Please find below the report regarding FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017.

*AFRICAN COACHES RUE YOUNGSTERS LOSING PATHWAY TO ‘GLITZ AND GLAMOUR’ IN
EUROPE*

*By Shoubhik Mukhopadhyay,AIFF Media Team*

*GUWAHATI:* Before taking on each other in the all-African quarterfinal of
the FIFA U17 World Cup India 2017 on Saturday (October 21, 2017), both
Ghana and Mali U-17 Team coaches lamented the African teams' lesser success
rate in the Senior age-group compared to the junior age-group competitions.

Speaking at the at the pre-match press conference in Guwahati, Fabin
Samuel, the Ghana U-17 coach said: "It has been a perennial problem for us.
Having come from a poor background when the boys find the initial glitz and
glamour of the football professional world, they lose the pathway. They
need to adopt the mental toughness. They have to build themselves from
within to get the success in the Senior Level- which is so tough and
gruelling."

Ghana have won FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy twice in 1991 and 1995 and have
finished runners-up twice in 1993 and 1997. On the other hand, they have
qualified to the final stage of the FIFA World Cup only thrice until now.

Kokou Komla, the Mali U-17 Coach picked up another aspect to address the
same issue. "After going to the Europe they take up the nationalities of
the respective countries and eventually decide to turn up for those nations
snubbing their motherland,” he maintained.

“They don't come back to their own Country and this plays a big role
blocking us from reaching the next level in the World Football,” Komla
stated.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian coach who didn't mince his words admitted that
“everyone feels pressure in job and I'm no different,” also rued the
youngsters' mental instability at the crucial juncture of their career.

"This age is the crucial time for a player and the player needs to
understand this. They have to keep focus and continue to develop themselves
as a player. So many promising African careers have gone waste,” Samuel
sounded absolutely desolate.

Having won the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations title in 2015 Mali finished
behind champions Nigeria in the last edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup
before conquering the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations title again in 2017.

But, the picture is a gloomy one while the focus shifts to the Senior Team.
The West-African team's best finish in the African Cup of Nations was in
1972 when they lost to Congo in the final. The fact that they have never
been able to qualify for the FIFA World Cup would only add more dismay to
the Mali Football fans.

Komla pointed out that “less time to mould a team” play a major role
failing to build a “perfect team to give others a big fight.”

“The boys stay and play together in the junior age group and the team
builds up from within. Once the boys fly to different countries to play
professionally, this bonding diminishes.”

"The technical, psychological aspects of the Senior Football are huge and
it's really tough to inculcate a team within such short period,” Komla
mentioned.

Nevertheless, Komla stayed optimistic the recent resurgence of Mali
Football might trigger a key role enticing the Europe-based players to
choose the national colour over the European counterparts.

"It's really going well now and is benefitting us in the true sense. It
motivates the young generations as well as lures the senior players coming
back to their motherland. It has been a collective effort so far and
everyone right from the Football Association, players, technical stuff
deserves the due credit.”

[Goanet] Match Report of FC Bardez Goa vs Vasco SC

2017-10-20 Thread FC Bardez
Dear Colleagues,

Please find below a match report of the Goa Pro League match between FC
Bardez Goa vs Vasco SC . Please print this match report in your
respective newspapers.

*FC Bardez Goa hammered Vasco SC 6-0 in the Goa Profession League match
which was played at the Duler Football Stadium on Friday.*

FC Bardez Goa got their goals from Jessel Carneiro, Kritikesh Gadekar,
Clinton Niasso and Shubham Rao dessai. It was Clintion Niasso’s day as he
got his hat-trick.

FC Bardez Goa coach Armando Colaco made four changes to his squad as
Kritikesh Gadekar, Clinton Niasso, Danstan Fernandes and Joliston Rebello
get their chance in the starting XI.

While the Vasco SC coach Eban Mesquita made three changes to his squad as
Godfrey Mascarenhas, Franky Oliveiro and Somanath Patil saw their names
into the starting XI.

Both the teams stated the game in a good not and stuck to midfield play in
the first 10 minutes of the game, but it was Vasco who made the first move
in the 11th minute of the match when the ex Bardez man Franky Oliveiro
missed a golden opportunity to put Vasco into the lead. Clive Coelho passed
the ball to Franky who shot straight at the Bardez custodian.

>From then on the ball stuck to midfield play as both the teams couldn’t get
past each other’s midfield, but it was FC Bardez Goa who struck first blood
through their captain Jessel Carneiro who scored a flying tap in from a
Shubham Dessai cross. 1-0

Just after play resumed from the center line, Kritikesh Gadekar got a free
ball , dribbled passed two Vasco defenders and unleased a powerful shot
from 20 yards which went directly into the top left corner. 2-0

The Bardez colts increased their lead further through Clinton Niasso in the
44th minute. Shubham Rao Desai passed the ball to Kritikesh Gadekar who in
turn passed it to Clinton inside the 5-yard box, Clinton only had to tap
the ball inside the net to increase the score line. 3-0

Just two minute later into added time, Clinton Niasso increased his tally,
as he got the ball in midfield pay, and dribbled the ball and struck a
thunderous shot which landed in the back of the net. 4-0.

After the crossover in the 55th minute Clinton Niasso completed his
hat-trick. Kritikesh Gadekar dribbled passed the Vasco right defender and
put in a ground pass to Clinton who had to just tap in the ball. 5-0

Just two minutes before the end of normal time Shubham Rai Dessai scored
his first of the game. Inacio Colaco struck a powerful shot but hit a Vasco
defender and landed at Shubham’s legs who slotted the ball inside the net.
6-0

In the 93rd minute of the match the Vasco defender Godfrey Mascarenhas
brought down Jessel Carneiro inside the box which awarded Bardez a penalty.
Chatur Naik stepped up to take the spot kick, but failed to capitalize as

[Goanet] ACCIDENT PRONE ZONE AT THE DONA PAULA DOWN THE SLOPE NEAR NIO CIRCLE

2017-10-20 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Dharmesh Angle and others
Traffic Superintendent of Police
Panjim Police Station

Sir/s

We, the residents of Dona Paula, are fed up with a number of accidents
taking place down the circle almost every alternate day and the police
authorities neither the Government is least interested to help the
residents of Bay View colony, Ocean Heights, Sagar Society, NIO
colony/Institute, Green Rosary school, Aivao and rest of Dona Paula sector
to stop such a situation.
The main reason for the accident is been suggested by many people and many
times, and again let me ask now, a traffic lights installation, or a speed
limit board , needs to be fixed it up just a few meters from the down the
slope as the vehicles come at full speed from Bambolim side.
Just today ( 20th Oct) at 13 hrs a vehicle bearing number GA-07-K- 6579
which was coming from Bambolim side in such a speed dashed with a CRV
Honda vehicle at the slope bearing number KA-20-N-1303 which was trying to
come out from Bay View lane /colony.
Both the vehicles were badly damaged but somehow both decided to patch up
and compromise. This way number of accidents tally is not reported in the
Police station because of the legal intricacies and formalities. Another
reason is that this narrow road is a big problem, and the authorities it
seems have decided not to widen it up, best reasons known to them. There
exist also a Tour and Travel agency nearby called Sai Sharda which caters
the tourism activities and most of the times we see buses and other tourist
vehicles parked on this circle and on road junction. The visibility is so
bad when they are parked on the roads, other drivers who are coming out
from these lanes especially from Bay View cannot see the incoming vehicles
coming from Bambolim hence the Dy Collector is requested to issue an order
to install a speed limit board or a tiny kind of fountain, or a speed
breaker to reduce the speed just before the starting of the slope.
Will the CM Manohar Parrikar, Governor Mridula Sinha, SP Darmesh Angle,
DGP Mukesh Chander, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, CCP Mayor/Commissioner
and ex-MLA Sidharth Kuncoliencar look into these problems and save lives
of people due to accidents on this slope?
Another headache we have number/hundreds of stray dogs and also a
restaurant closeby where food is served to them which makes this situation
much more difficult. The least one is the traffic policemen who cannot
manage to control the traffic as it is impossible for them to attend
hundreds of tourist buses and vehicles parked everyday on the roads and
lanes.
What a MESS we have in Dona Paula where tourists are seen walking on the
roads in disorderly manner and going to the jetty where nothing is there
to be seen in whole of Dona Paula and now the GSIDC is made a sort of
garden for them to relax?
Tourism Minister must be informed not to make tourism announcement for the
tourists to come to Dona Paula as no tourism attraction is there here.

[Goanet] A VERY PROUD OCCASION FOR RIBANDAR

2017-10-20 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The centenary celebrations of Ribandar’s outstanding and illustrious son
the late Dr Sanvlo Keni will be held at Kala Academy in Campal on Monday
October 23rd at 6 pm.

The very versatile and multi talented Dr Keni’s contribution to the
socio-cultural field was extremely enormous. He was a very gentle and kind
family doctor to the people of Ribandar and the surrounding villages. Dr
Keni was also a great theatre artiste who remarkably performed in several
dramas on stage.

A proud son and pride for Ribandar the exceedingly gregarious Dr Sanvlo
Keni always was.

[Goanet] TIME TO LAY GOA FORWARD TO ETERNAL REST

2017-10-20 Thread Aires Rodrigues
After having fooled the people of Goa by selfishly opting for Power and
Money over Principles, the now very discredited, disreputed and dishonoured
Goa Forward Party should stop dreaming of expanding into other
constituencies. At the first available opportunity they will be given a
very sound political thrashing in their current constituencies of Fatorda,
Saligao and Siolim.

After the exit earlier this year of the highly respected Prof Prabhakar
Timble, the Goa Forward Party has now become a Private Limited Company run,
manoeuvred and manipulated by the Don and Dalal of Fatorda. It has ended up
as a residual bin for all notorious scamsters and awfully tainted
politicians. A stinking accumulation of political excreta from other
parties. Goa Forward is now a safe abode for all that political garbage.
Coconuts galore.

[Goanet] Goa's Greatest Museum Needs Our Help

2017-10-20 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
From: V M Subject: [Goanet] Goa's Greatest Museum Needs Our Help

The greatest Indian painter of the 20th century was born in Saligao.  Goa has
produced an extraordinary string of amazing artists, but they have always
remained almost entirely unknown among their own people. It's a unique case in
the world, where a highly productive culture purposely devalues its own most
significant achievers. Thus, until it closed recently, the state museum was
easily the worst in the country, displaying almost nothing noteworthy across
multiple fields in which Goan artists and craftsmen have excelled.
Now there is nothing, with nothing better planned either. To see gems from the
state's tradition, you need to travel to London or New Delhi.
GL responds

Yes it would definitely be nice to have one or more modern Goan art museum.
But vocal and educated Goans would be the first to criticize the govt for
spending money on museums rather than on fixing toilets and pot holes.  So Goan
leaders have to get their goals and priorities right rather than criticizing
the govt and private individuals for any initiative that is shown.

Most places in the world, the museums are supported by private philanthropists.
The leaders for museum for Goan art should be the Goan artists themselves.
Fund-raising efforts involve auction of donated art, along with wine and cheese
parties, etc.

Goans who settled down in East Africa should have a museum in Goa of
contributions of East African Goans.   That should encourage East African Goans
to donate to the museum their own small or large collection of artifacts.  The
sad part is often their own children or grandchildren are not likely to be
interested in those artifacts because it does not go well with their 21st
century home decor.  So the artifacts instead of being publicly displayed in a
museum with the donors name proudly displayed will likely be collecting dust in
the attic.

Smart Goans instead of spending their time on the internet and merely writing
should take on such worth-while causes and put their efforts and thoughts into
action.
Regards,  GL
