[Goanet] Brilliantly reasoned: Why Aadhaar Should't Exist!

This is the current dilemma facing the Supreme Court:

The dangers of

Addhaar card takes the freedom away from Goans and Indians. It's your money
hard earned, not black money. The Modi government is corrupt wants to take way
Goan peoples money. Most Indians are poor except few of them are very rich
keeping trashing money away without paying taxes. Government should target
those rascals and not Goans who make their money hard way in the middle east,
tarwar, Canada, USA, Australia, Newzealand etc., the frontier country and all
that hard earned money is saved in State Bank of India, in Margao, Panjim,
Vasco, etc. as the white hard earned money. So addhaar card should not be
applied to Goans. Goans must protest cause Parikar government is the Indian BJP
government influenced by swindler Modi, would not fight in the interests of
Goans.

[Goanet] Modi is losing shine

2017-11-03 Thread Nelson Lopes
Modi is losing Shine

The idea and promise of applying Gujerat model to India is totally flawed .
Gujerat is not India and vice versa., The corruption scandals tom tom ed by
BJP had its effects. People wanted a change but it was not to propel BJP
into the saddle of power.. Modi with his oratorial skills
mesmerized/captivated Indians at home and abroad. He is undoubtedly a
great dreamer and his ability to sell dreams is apparelled and the Indians
instantly believed him ..He mouthed catchy slogans like “Ahe din anem vale
haim” ‘”sab ke sath sab ka vikas” “ make in India” lapped up by aspiring
Indians. Jio on the contrary is providing jobs to Chinese unemployed on a
large scale. He failed in his promise to deposit 15 Lakhs of black money
into accounts of Indians. People in great expectations opened Ru pay
accounts that are now dormant with crores accruing to the banks. THE GOAL
POST WERE CHANGED, requiring head of the family to be in business to enable
credit of Rs 5000= Banks are loath to provide information merely fulfilled
targets set. The number of accounts is only a statistic for Govt. to
boast.. As the diversionary tactics Yoga made startling headlines
portraying the P.M with likes of Baba Ram Dev taking centre stage. The
shine is wearing out. The cases against prominent stalwarts of the party
have been dismissed by the courts and declared innocent.. The thumping
majority in Lokh Shaba was eroded by white washing in Delhi elections .The
idea of giving up subsidy by elite does not apply to his MLA`s and M.P`s,
poor Indians.

The writers , educators etc have for the first time returned awards as
protest against indignities The minorities are at the receiving end and
subjected to brutalities in the name of Holy cow, while gau Shallas are
swindling Govt of resources and resorting to clandestine trade across
borders, all with authorities feigning ignorance looking the other way.
Nationalism and patriotism have been given new dimensions requiring
citizens to demonstrate afresh their allegiance to the country. Indians
celebrating victory of our adversaries are asked to migrate and labelled
traitors . There are bans against food, clothes ,phones, night outings,
cacophony against love jihad, invading forcefully into private lives of
citizens, Govt dictating rules. Religious intolerance is at its peak after
seven decades and minorities are living in fear of insecurity

There is no relief or reductions of crimes against women like rapes, eve
teasing, molestation, sexual assaults in work and public spaces .The
promised thrust for employment has fizzled out like a damp squib,
disappointing the hopeful youth work force entering employment field.
Health ,education nutrition, infant mortality, girl marriages, atrocities
against schedule tribes, castes are not a priority and go unabated. The
unprecedented ,rising burden on all prices during last three years of
common consumption bothers no party, busy with cornering loaves of office

The Govt has mastered the art of diversion of issues by focusing on non
issues While India is burning under communal tensions, BJP is attacking
with no holes barred the killing of its lone member in another state, All
the top functionaries have descended in show of solidarity and unison with
party bosses, criticizing law and order and health parameters in a most
shameful manner.

Hang me after 50 days after demonetization said the P.M. The exercise has
crippled the economy and growth, fueled unemployment .The disastrous
effects of demonetization is not felt by those singing praises of
unearthing so called black money, by putting normal citizens to rigors of
seeking their own money. To top the cake the so called unplanned hurriedly
announced GST has broken the back of economy and GDP, It will take years to
recover from this mess , It is not one nation one tax with four slabs The
compliance is an uphill task with poor Internet connectivity and many
establishment are closing shop due to heavy burden of taxation and
formalities and fines

Any fault is transferred merrily on the previous Govt ..It is convenient
and practical to lay all ills facing the country at the door steps of UPPA
Govt and NDA has no responsibility to make a difference being in power .
People are fed up with blame games at every step. The party bosses are busy
fermenting trouble in other states ruled by the opposition. Tamilnadu has
become pliant due to death of Jayalaitha and factionalism to capture

is of no consequence, even though some marginal gains have accrued. .After
baying for the blood of AAP with Governor acting in tandem, wisdom has
dawned to leave it alone as it has no all India presence, having miserably

INDIA U-19s GEAR UP FOR SAUDI ARABIA CHALLENGE

*By Joseph Solomon,*

*AIFF Media Team*

*DAMMAM (SAUDI ARABIA): *The Indian U-19 National Team will face hosts
Saudi Arabia in their opening encounter of Group D of the AFC U-19
Championship qualifiers at the Prince Mohammad bin Fahad Stadium in Dammam,
Saudi Arabia tomorrow (November 04, 2017). The kick-off for which is slated
at 9:35 PM IST.

Riding on the “positive experience” of the recently concluded FIFA U-17
World Cup 2017 India, Head Coach of the Indian U-19s, Luis Norton de Matos
said in the Official Pre-Tournament Press Conference that India will be
looking to make an impact, whilst continuing the process of “building
football in the next generation”.

“It is very important to continue the process of developing football in the
set of boys that have been provided post the World Cup. We will be looking
forward to give all the teams a tough fight and aim for a win”, Matos said.

“We will fight till the very end in our upcoming matches, but at the same
time we respect our opponents and we know that our opponents have the
necessary tools to hurt us. We will have to be focused and stay on our toes
throughout the entirety of the matches”

“We aim to play against the best and we are drawn in a group that have some
of the best youth teams in Asia. Against Saudi Arabia, it will be a very
tough clash and the fact that they will be playing at home will add to
that”, he added.

Comprising of a mixture of players from Indian U-17 World Cup Team and India’s
U-19 team which played in the SAFF U-19 Championship in Bhutan, the Indian
U-19 National Team has been pitted in Group D alongside hosts Saudi Arabia,
Yemen and Turkmenistan.

“The set of players that we have are special and some of the boys who were
part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup are in the Indian U-19s, which make it a
very special experience of them of playing against some of the best youth
teams of Asia”

“We are preparing for the future and through the process the players are
bound to grow with the experience that they will get throughout”, Matos
quipped. “The FIFA U-17 World Cup proved that the new generation can follow
football and we wish to capitalize on this growth”

In their preparation for the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers, India had an
exposure tour of Qatar wherein the colts played against Qatar U-19s and
Al-Gharafa Club, losing 1-0 against the former and defeating the latter
3-1. “The exposure tours helped us in our preparation for the Qualifiers as
they gave us time for team chemistry to build both on and off the field.
Our strength is our unity and if we aim to play as a single unit in the
upcoming matches”, Matos informed.

Meanwhile, the Head Coach of Saudi Arabia Khalid Alatawi gave credit to
India and said, “India are one of the teams that have evolved good with
time and they (India) have made good progress. They (India) are quick on
the ball and will be tough opponents tomorrow”

[Goanet] The Downhill Journey of Indian Travel Writing (Mint Lounge, 3/11/2017)

2017-11-03 Thread V M
http://www.livemint.com/Leisure/uugt5JCxjH7rWKTrPl2zbL/The-downhill-journey-of-Indian-travel-writing.html

I was hooked from the first lines I ever read of Anil Yadav’s
shambling, hilarious travel book, Is That Even A Country, Sir!
Journeys In Northeast India By Train, Bus and Tractor (originally
written in Hindi, and now available in an excellent translation by
Anurag Basnet, published by Speaking Tiger). It was an excerpt posted
on Facebook by my friend Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar, the brilliant young
physician/writer, whose Mantoesque collection of short stories, The
Adivasi Will Not Dance, has been banned in his native Jharkhand.

Shekhar posted Yadav’s account of passing through the notorious
“chicken’s neck corridor” to enter Assam. “Small stations and halts
were passing by—New Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Barpeta, Rangiya. The reports
and pictures published in newspapers were all saying that these were
those places where the killings of Hindi-speakers had taken place in
recent days. Buying red tea and some local savouries from a vendor, it
struck me that my speech is inflected with a Bihari accent which makes
an appearance at unguarded moments. ‘Our name is Aneel Yadav.’ I can’t
tell how many individuals I gather within, other than myself, when I
draw out my name.” A flute player innocently invites him to listen,
which unleashes paranoia, “Who knows, maybe these people are using
these techniques to identify Hindi-speakers on trains.”

Even halfway through that excerpt, I realized Yadav had produced that
most precious of rarities—Indian travel writing in the classical
mould: naked, humane, visceral and relatable. Of all the different
categories comprising national literature, this one has continually,
conspicuously lagged. It never genuinely flourished, but terminal
decline set in after the advent of glossy travel magazines (full
disclosure: I write for most of them) and blogs, which smell of
editorial barter mendacity, reduced to plugging content that is mere
padding around a laundry list of brand names. The newest trend is
sheer vulgarity: name-dropping “celebrity”-authors photographed
against postcard backdrops. This isn’t literature. It’s advertising.

Indian travel writing’s deterioration to lifestyle porn is
particularly grotesque because it started off so well, with a string
of vivid turn-of-the-20th-century accounts. I rate Nivedan best, the
astounding memoir of Dharmanand Kosambi, who fled family
responsibilities in a tiny village in Goa (his job was to tend to a
grove of coconut palms) to study Sanskrit, Pali and Buddhism. He
survived horrendous journeys filled with privation, trekked to the
Himalayas, sailed to Sri Lanka, lived in a cave in Myanmar, and
eventually taught at Harvard and Leningrad State Universities, before
retiring to become something like Gandhi’s own Mahatma in the
Sabarmati ashram.

Nivedan was marvellously translated from Marathi by Kosambi’s late
granddaughter Meera Kosambi, who did the same for Pandita Ramabai’s
eye-opening account of travelling in the US in the late 19th century.
In her The Peoples Of The United States, this early Indian feminist
adroitly reversed the male, Orientalist gaze, writing, for example,
that “women—who may be pure, educated, effective as speakers,
possessed of other excellent qualities, and much more capable than
male preachers, but whose only fault is that they are women—are
ordered by men to shut their mouths and sit quietly even if they have
received a call from God to preach”.

Where Ramabai was forthright and forceful, the impressionable
18-year-old Mohandas Gandhi’s stories of England depict someone
entirely unsure of himself (though he had previously displayed mettle
by defying community elders who threatened excommunication for leaving
India). The uber-nerd future “Father of India” embarrassed himself
frequently, in an extensive catalogue of humiliations, which makes The
Story of My Experiments With Truth exceptionally endearing. “I
directed my attention to other details that were supposed to go
towards the making of an English gentleman” writes the hapless Gandhi.
“I decided to take dancing lessons But it was beyond me to achieve
anything like rhythmic motion. I could not follow the piano and hence
found it impossible to keep time.”

Such willingness to reveal blunders and awkwardness makes Gandhi’s
diaries valuable, lasting and sheer fun to read. It is only when
writers can admit they might be hopelessly homesick, and cursing the
day they left home, that travel writing becomes credible and
persuasive. Those are the makings of literature, not triumphal
selfie-style despatches about tasting menus served by helicopter atop
the Burj Khalifa, accompanied by new best friend Salman Rushdie.

Perhaps the greatest travel book of all time, The Road To Oxiana,
intersperses trenchant, whip-smart descriptions of 1930s’ Palestine,
Syria, Iran and Afghanistan, with equally vivid stories of fear,
crippling cold, and severe illness. At one point, Robert

No Sir. Thanks
One thing you can only attack the opposition whenever you get an
opportunity. Pergola is not only in ruins but the Goverment has no
intention to salvage this heritage joint which existed during my youth
before 1961. Miramar beach is gone case. Also look at the sorry state of
affairs of St Inez creek for which till date the present Goverment has not
come out with any positive solution to improve or clean the creek. The
ex-MLA of Panjim may a time promises that he would clean up the creek and
its surrounding areas but till date has done nothing and on the contrary
Panjim is filled with filth for example the area surrounding Panjim market
which is floaded with garbage, secondly please see the state of Campal
parade ground is becoming another Sonssodo and third issues like vehicles
on footpaths, handcarts at church square, dilapidated roads with pot holes,
traffic hazards, garbage everywhere in the city and now CCP has been
sanctioned funds by GSUDA about 10 crores for the renovation of St inez
cemetery which I feel is not an emergency work and instead this fund could
be utilized by the Goverment for other major issues, like parking, getting
rid of offshore casinos in river Mandovi etc etc. I would say Panjim is
slowing dying , practically no development is seen in Panjim but the
goverment is only barking like dogs with empty promises. Goverment is out
to destroy Goa and since I am from Panjim i see all these tamachas. Our
youth are unemployed and jobless and whatever existing of jobs are given to
those of their interested members of politicians. I know one Panjim
advocate for example who was complaining against the ex-MLA wife and now
his mouth is shut as he was offered goverment Portuguese translator and
for his wife i was told made a Principal of some school. This advocate has
no Portuguese qualifications like 7th or 5th Ano do Liceu as many earlier
translators had these qualifications in the High Court but his translations
will be in verbatim. This way the Goverment has an ability to shut people
mouth who are after them.
What a shame. You, as I know have tremendous work to clear this kind of
garbage but I do not know whether you will succed or not.
Thanks for asking me if I needed any help. Wish you best of luck.
Kind regards

Dear Stephen Dias,

I too recently visited Goa and was shocked at the extent of deterioration of
Goa. The state of abandon of Mira Mar beach, our only beach in the capital,
is shocking, and a shame. I have no idea who might be responsible for
looking after our beaches and infrastructures , but who ever it is,
obviously is not doing its duty, just like everyone else in he government.

As far as I am concerned Goa is finished, and it seems no one cares,
including the Goans in Goa. Very few people will raise issues like you did.

Wishing you all the best, and thanking you for still caring for Goa,

Yours sincerely,

Carmen Miranda

SPLENDID COLOURS OF
MESMERISING NATURE

Elvidio Miranda

The blaze of glory of a rainbow on an October evening is a sight to behold
by everyone who witnesses this spectacular phenomenon, that is nature's
ways of colouring the sky with the radiant arc of violet, indigo, blue,
green, yellow, orange and red colours, the seven main colours in the
universe. The rays of the sun in the western sky passes through the
droplets of rain acting as minute prisms to unfurl and display a
sensational harmony of colours on the eastern firmament. This natural
optical phenomena is usually associated with harmony, peace and
understanding, what sages of yesteryears believe. Many-a-times, the
occurrence of a rainbow in also followed by a spectacular sunset in the
west, a double feast for the eyes. Rainbows formed by the rays of the sun
are widely witnessed but what is a very rare occurrence is the circular
rainbow formed around the moon on a full moon day on an August night that
is a unique display of the variety of colours during a rainy day, the rare
show of colours in the night sky amid the twinkling stars. Rainbows are
especially a visual treat because the colours are intrinsic giving the
impression that inner lights seem to project a flourescent or
phosphorescent display. The array of magnificent colours of the sky right
from dawn until dusk is also a visual feast for the eyes as well as its
reflection on the surface of the oceans, seas and rivers, which create a
spectacular sight, a glowing tribute to nature's colourful wonder. The
twinkling of stars in the dark night sky is yet another effect that
mesmerises the viewer, an effect produced due to the various strata of
denseness as well as of rarity of the atmospheric air. Twinkling stars are
also seen with variety of light colour tinges that decorate the night sky,
lending a magical celestial spectacle to the night. Also sunset in
particular colours the sky with shades of light and dark blue, orange, grey
and crimson.
The colours of the rainbow find wide expression in the gorgeous exotic
plumage of a wide variety of birds that are a gleaming testimony of the
wonders of nature, the impressive and elegant peacock, canary, parrot and
kingfisher, are but a few examples of nature's abundance of colour in the
bird kingdom. The vivid green flourescent light emitted by a firefly due to
the burning of luciferase is yet another marvel that illuminates the night
during the monsoon, short spells of glow dotting the ambience.Nature's
resplendent array of colours find wide expression in the hues and shades of
the petals of flowers from the crowning glory of the roses of various
colours to the carnations, orchids and violets. Nature displays a wondrous
array of colours that are both magical and mesmerising.

[Goanet] Bhamye has no toilet facility

2017-11-03 Thread samir umarye
hamye, a small village in Pale in the mining belt lacks toilet facility and the
locals fear that government’s indifferent attitude towards addressing the issue
may pollute the lone well in the village, which is the only source of drinking
water.

Bhamye panchas have been demanding a toilet facility for the villagers for many
years, but most locals are forced to answer the nature’s call out in the open.

“ All the villagers have submitted the file requesting for a toilet facility to
the BDO’s office and it’s been two years we are following up the issue. The
Mineral Foundation had also assured to provide a Sulabh Souchalaya but they too
failed in fulfilling their promise,” Santosh Naik, Pali panch informed.
Questioning the government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan appeal, Naik wondered as to
how India would be clean if the toilet demand of the villagers is not met. “
Government is talking about cleanliness but it is surprising to note that a
village in Goa is not having a single toilet,” Naik claimed and demanded that
the government immediately look into the matter.

When Herald visited the village, the locals looked weary of constructing a
toilet in Bhamye fearing that the lone well, which is their only source of
drinking water, will get polluted.

It may be noted that since there are mines in the village, Bhamye is always
faced with a water scarcity problem and in such a situation; the lone well in
the village satisfies their drinking water need.

The villagers recall an earlier incident when sewage water polluted another
well. Since then they fear that a toilet in the village might pollute the
present well, which is their lone source of drinking water.

“ We are not opposed to government constructing toilets in the area but it
should not affect our well, which is satisfying the need of this village and
surrounding areas,” Mohan Jalmi, a resident and President of Mallikarjun
Devasthan said.

According to the locals, during the summer they do not get tap water and this
well satisfies their drinking water need. “ We can do without a toilet but what
if there is no drinking water for months together?” a villager asked.

All the villagers have submitted the file requesting for a toilet facility to
the Block Development Office ( BDO) and it’s been two years we are following up
the issue with it. The Mineral Foundation had also assured to provide a Sulabh
Souchalaya but they too failed in fulfilling their promise — Santosh Naik, Pali

[Goanet] WILL THE SUPREME COURT CATCH UP WITH GOA’S TWO POLITICIANS

2017-11-03 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The corrupt and criminal minded need to be uprooted from the political
spectrum for there to be a ray of hope for India’s polity. The Supreme
Court has rightly observed that in the interest of the nation the criminal
cases involving politicians must be speedily disposed. Expressing the need
for decriminalization of politics, the Court has exhorted the necessity to
create Special fast track Courts to deal with cases against politicians.

While the Supreme Court wants that the trial of such cases should complete
within a year, in Goa we have at least two very serious criminal cases
against politicians which have been lingering for years with even the trial
not having commenced.

The 1998 infamous multi crore Power scam against then Power Minister Mauvin
Godinho is pending before the Supreme Court since 2007. Incidentally that
case against Mauvin Godinho was filed by the then Leader of Opposition
Manohar Parrikar. Ironically for obvious political convenience Mauvin
Godinho after having embraced the BJP is now a Minister in Manohar
Parrikar’s cabinet.

The 2007 criminal case against former Education Minister Babush Monseratte
for having attacked the Panaji Police Station is also lingering in the High
Court for the last many years. In return for the political kindness shown
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is now all set to reward Babush Monseratte
with Chairmanship of a plumb Planning and Development Authority.

So now will these two cases move in line with the Supreme Court mandate or
will they continue to be manipulatively geared by the Government with
motives of political expediency. And less said the better on how in October
2014 Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had very high-handedly managed to shut
down theGoa CBI Court which was specially constituted to expedite
Corruption cases. It was only ushering in Acche din for the corrupt.
