[Goanet] “Brought Dead”

2018-01-31 Thread Roland Francis
This is common Indian terminology for the North American DOA (Dead On Arrival).

Countless deaths can be attributed to late or indeed non-arrival of ambulances
at the scene of the accident or medical incident. Not much importance seems to
be given to this high priority need. Just an attitude of que sera sera in Goa
as in the rest of India.

Neither are road arrangements accompanied by heavy fines and punishment, made
on high traffic roads where impediments to the ambulance with flashing lights
present themselves.

One sees good samaritans bundling the patient or accident victim in a taxi or
private car. This however does not solve the traffic problem to the vehicle,
nor does it help that non-medical people move the person by shoving and lifting
in a manner that could be harmful or fatal, not does it provide in-vehicle
emergency medical care until the hospital trauma centre is reached.

It is so disgusting to see grandiose plans being made to fill pockets
primarily, rather than be tasked with relatively small but life-saving measures
put into place.

[Goanet] Leap of Faith - Benny Hinn a Dangerous Fake

2018-01-31 Thread Roland Francis
Who says religion doesn’t poison if not everything (as Richard Dawson famously
said), at least many things.

Here is one example of a character I have been sceptically following for long,
stupefied over the years at his increasing exploitation of sick, vulnerable
people, thereby enriching himself by hundreds of millions of dollars despite
the media exposing him on several occasions.

He cheats people flocking to his ‘healing services’ from Australia to India to
Nigeria to the US (and many countries in-between) not by himself alone but by a
horde of paid producers, directors, pastors and all manner of cheats and
fakers. His is not a healing service (people heal by the hard work of others;
researchers, doctors, medical personnel and the care of friends and family),
but one gigantic charlatan’s show.

How many people has religion taken to the cleaners? More than it has helped.

This article about a 44 year-old reputed plastic surgeon from Bombay neatly
encapsulates reasons for the high accident rates in India:

1. Poor knowledge of traffic rules.
2. Gross indiscipline of drivers and pedestrians.
3. Poor condition of roads.

Productive lives like that of this young doctor pay for all the negligence.

[Goanet] Power sub-station at Sal soon: CM

2018-01-31 Thread samir umarye

Samir Umarye

BICHOLIM: The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that Sal village in
Bicholim taluka would soon get a power sub-station while the work of KTC
bus stand in Bicholim would also be taken up soon.

The chief minister was today on a day’s visit to Bicholim taluka. Speaking
further the CM assured that all the pending works would be taken up in
Bicholim in the months to come.

He also said that to solve the water scarcity in Sal, the government has
plans to set up a 10 MLD water treatment plant, if the land is made
available by the panchayat.

He said that if Sal water treatment plant is commissioned it would reduce
burden on Padocem water treatment plant, besides reducing the water
shortage in Kasarpal, Sal rehabilitation colony and other areas of Bicholim
taluka.

On power problem, he said that the procedure for starting work of power
substation at Sal at a cost of Rs 15 crore is nearing completion. He also
informed that in future, the government would lay stress on undertaking
underground cable power supply system. He later instructed power department
officials to solve power crisis with immediate effect.

He also said that the government would spend Rs 7.5 crore on developing
roads in Bicholim taluka by March 2018.

[Goanet] day's final report

2018-01-31 Thread Stanislaus P. Dsouza
*10 Indian men, 8 women enter finals of SpiceJet India Open*

*New Delhi, January 31:*

Indian boxers ruled the ring, with eighteen of them — including 10 men and
8 women — storming into the finals of the SpiceJet India Open International
Boxing Tournament at the Thyagraj Indoor stadium here on Wednesday.

Running a distant second was classy Uzbekistan, who saw all their seven
boxers sailing through smoothly from the semifinals into the finals. World
boxing giants Cuba, who had four in the semifinals, saw three of them take
their places in the title round; only Toirac Yohandi Ortega was ousted in
the superheavyweight final, losing 0-5 to the towering Uzbekistani
Bakhodir Jalolov.

India’s charge into the final was led by none other than Mary Kom, Sarita
Devi and Pinki Rani in the women’s session while Manish Kaushik and Dinesh,
who upset Manoj Kumar, led the men’s charge into the finals.

Shiva Thapa fell by the wayside in the men’s semifinals. Hindered by a
slight wrist injury, he failed to unravel Manish Kaushik, just like he
couldn’t during the recently-held nationals.

Southpaw Manish looked in fine fettle and used his speed and power to win
5-0 in the lightweight category. “I had no pressure on me so I fought
freely,” he said, shortly after his victory. “I instigated him and then
went on the attack,” he added.

Five-time world champion Mary Kom suffered some early hiccups in the
opening round against her taller and stronger Mongolian opponent
Altansetseg Lutsaikhan in the light-fly category. She promptly changed her
strategy in the second to turn the bout on its head.

She began by fighting from close quarters only to realise that it wasn’t a
good tactic against the aggressive Mongolian, who cleverly used her height,
reach and power to her advantage. In the next rounds, she opted to maintain
a safe distance, before launching into short-burst attacks.

That was enough to throw the Mongolian out of her rhythm and Mary piled on
the points for a 4-1 victory.

She takes on Josie Gabuco, an impressive all-round boxer from the
Philippines, in the final.

Sarita Devi overcame her Indian counterpart Priyanka Choudhary 4-1 in the
light-weight category while Thai girl Chuthamat Raksat found Pinki Rani too
to handle, going down 0-5 in the flyweight division.

Sarita next meets the strong and aggressive Finland girl, Potkonan Mira
Marjut, who more than packs a punch, in the final while Pinki takes on
Ochirbat Jargalan of Mongolia.

not accept payment by debit cards .  Can you imagine the Baker boy, the
Fisherman, the Vegetable sellers carrying a debit card machine with them to

What about the chai wallahs ?  I want a cup of tea, here is my debit card !
Yeah ???With so many illiterate or poorly educated people in India, I believe
making India a cashless society is a distant dream.  It is a laudable goal, but
first things first, lets make India a fully literate society.
As for cash dispensing Bank  ATM machines, I have had many very bad experiences
including money not dispensed, yet the amount was charged to my account.
Resolving the issue was a nightmare. The Bank in question passed the buck on to
their agents who own the ATM machine. Lucky for me I had a witness, in my case

which were out of service either because of mechanical malfunction, or lack of

TOURISTS SHOULD

SUN CASINOS

By STEPHEN DIAS, DONA PAULA

The tag that Goa is getting that it is the Macau of India should be
shrugged off with contempt.

Tourists, in particular from other parts of India should not be unduly
swayed by the advertisements that the offshore casinos dangle in front of
them tempting them to be caught into a gambling web where it is with utmost
certainty that 90% of offshore casinos clients will lose. Goa has much more
to offer than the lure of casinos. Tourists attractions abound as far as
tours, surfing, paragliding, snorkeling, sightseeing, and even scuba diving
is concerned. Besides, it would be my advice to tourists to pamper their
palates with the wide variety of cuisines available in Goa as also the
varied wines, liqueurs and beers that are there to make your sojourn in
Goa a memorable culinary experience as well as tasting varied liquors that
are available in Goa at attractive rates. Why should the tourists risk
losing their money when they can partake of the food and drink that they
can enjoy instead of losing their hard earned money on gambling? Come to
Goa to be witness of healthy experiences that will make you return for
more. END

I am reminded of: Hasat khelat Shivaji raja zala / raje zale. (Laughing
playing Shivaji became king).
But these are not in that league. See a sword, scream Aaji, or now perhaps
Mummy! Forget Maim ghe.

So, Heckle, the jekylls.

Say more would be a textual blood-bath. :)

Are they serious. Must be crazy! Half the time the HDFC ATM in Anjuna does not
work. The system is mostly “down” even for other transactions.
