[Goanet] AKSHADA BANDEKAR IS GOA’S PRIDE

2019-08-12 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Goa’s very budding and so sensational singer Akshada Bandekar is creating
waves. She is God’s gift to her proud dear parents Goa Medical College Dean
Dr. Shivanand & Eng. Sadhana Bandekar.

To watch a video of a song sung so confidently by Akshada when she was just
5 years, go to
https://www.facebook.com/300810636613452/posts/2844373018923855/

In these trying times when our rulers are busy burying the remains of Goa,
singers like Akshada keep our hopes alive by injecting us with the much
needed adrenalin to brave the pain seeing Goa sinking. Listening to singers
like Akshada, keeps the vanquishing flame and hope of Goem, Goenkar and
Goenkarponn alive.

[Goanet] Trashing the Magic of Charles Correa

2019-08-12 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
From: dom martin

Places of worship are the only known Portraits of God, inspired by and
dedicated to earthly saints. A Basilica of St. Jose Vaz would give God's
Portrait yet another welcome patina.

Now for some sound bytes:  Does God truly need another Big House when countless
faithfuls are homeless, endure hunger or persecution?

If Goans can drum up capital for a ?Taj Bankroti?, why not restructure it into
the 'St. Jose Vaz Provident Fund', use that power-capital to conserve existing
Portraits of God in Goa which are in varying states of neglect and some, on the
verge of becoming another variant of the Tower of St. Augustine? Such gesture
would be the first time that a brown saint comes to the aid of white saints so
that cohabitation may continue.

Lastly, we live in an era circumvented by iPhones, ISPs and satellites. A
single Goan can set up and maintain a Virtual Basilica where everyone can
upload their intercessions to Cloud! :)

In any event, don't count me out yet if there is an overwhelming 'pro'
consensus, even if my sound bytes at the moment sound like rebounding from a
?ridiculously reductionist? router.

GL responds:
Dialoging  on Goanet, always makes my head spin, because I never know the
direction of the argument and logic.  As the last paragraph suggest, Goa's
foremost writer, instead of providing the needed leadership, is looking to see
which way the wind blows.
An argument I hear often is: Why do we need another place of worship (Big
House)? Amazingly this comes from the very people who complain that it took 300
years to make Joseph Vaz a saint.  I can almost hear the cardinals for the last
300 years saying something very similar, "Why do we need another saint when we
already have more than 500 saints; and specially when this priest does not even
have much of following in his own native place of birth?"
This thread started with "thrashing the magic of Goan" architect Charles Correa
and other Goan artists.  The dialog appears to end with (paraphrasing), "In
today's era of the cloud and computers we do not need structural buildings and
artistic displays.  We-Goans are progressive and can just live in the cloud."
I suggest this logic is what really trashes Goan architects and artists at
present and for generations to come.  Perhaps that is OK, as none of them have
bothered to step into this dialog on this thread.   Living in the computer
cloud would also mean we do not need to repair and maintain buildings,
including those of Charles Correa, that are victims of time and nature.  Let's
save our crocodile tears.
Regards, GL

[Goanet] St. Joseph Vaz and the Basilica

2019-08-12 Thread dom martin
Since you have apropos-ly enlightened the Goan community that St. Augustine
was an African (born in Thagaste, North Africa – present day Algeria), it
adequately explains why the white saints in Goa did not come to the rescue
of the Church and Convent of St. Augustine. Now with our beloved St. Jose
Vaz in the mix, there is hope for among him and others whose ethnic
identities still remain highly classified.

[Goanet] Augustine of Hippo

2019-08-12 Thread Roland Francis
To those like me who didn’t know, who would have thought that St. Augustine was
a brown (or maybe even black) North African Roman, bishop of a conquered
province.

Romans seemed to be a very clever, practical and versatile thinking conquering
race. They would use any opportunity to further their cause including making
citizens of disparate peoples who served them well.

Many credible modern historians (Bart Ehrmann, Richard Carrier, Robert Price et
al) contend it was Constantine and succeeding Roman Emperors who took the myth
of Jesus of Nazareth (he was not from Nazareth) and ran with it to consolidate
the influence and power of the empire by using it as a unifying factor to
further Roman interests.

Mighty relieved, Adolfo, at your timely realization that I am just another
“superlo goenkar”, whose cranium has the tolerance to provide asylum to
migrant errors. This ought to swiftly stall any initiative for a Pro Dom
Dome.:)

Or as Mahavatar Babaji – the Himalayan saint – divinely summed it:

“There is no saint without a past

No sinner without a future”

Somehow, my past and future got neutralized after leaving the foothills of
Kilimanjaro.

biased …especially after he designed the Jamatkhana in Toronto ….shortly
before its completion he requests the Aga Khan for more land on the horizon
for the greater Glory of God . The Aga Khan did !

I am also reminded, about my visit to Istanbul as the guest of the Mayor.
Our guide told us about the great church which the Moslems wanted to
destroy. The Imam reminded them that a few degrees from true east would not
make a difference to OUR LORD. The church and the mosque still stand

[Goanet] Trashing the Magic of Charles Correa

2019-08-12 Thread dom martin
Places of worship are the only known Portraits of God, inspired by and
dedicated to earthly saints. A Basilica of St. Jose Vaz would give God's
Portrait yet another welcome patina.

Now for some soundbytes:

Does God truly need another Big House when countless faithfuls are
homeless, endure hunger or persecution?

If Goans can drum up capital for a “Taj Bankroti”, why not restructure it
into the 'St. Jose Vaz Provident Fund', use that power-capital to conserve
existing Portraits of God in Goa which are in varying states of neglect and
some, on the verge of becoming another variant of the Tower of St.
Augustine? Such gesture would be the first time that a brown saint comes to
the aid of white saints so that cohabitation may continue.

Lastly, we live in an era circumvented by iPhones, ISPs and satellites. A
single Goan can set up and maintain a Virtual Basilica where everyone can
upload their intercessions to Cloud! :)

In any event, don't count me out yet if there is an overwhelming 'pro'
consensus, even if my soundbytes at the moment sound like rebounding from a
“ridiculously reductionist” router.

[Goanet] Buying properties from builders in India - Caution!

2019-08-12 Thread Roland Francis
Sound advice from a social activist who I have been following on You Tube for a
long time.

K. Rao is brave, has taken on serious threats and lawsuits but persists on
helping buyers who have been cheated.

I suggest you watch his other videos to get a fuller knowledge of the criminal
actions of Indian builders.

[Goanet] REMEMBERING GOA’S FIRST CHIEF MINISTER DAYANAND BANDODKAR

2019-08-12 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Let us today pay our tributes to Goa’s very first Chief Minister Dayanand
Bandodkar on his death anniversary. Though Dayanand Bandodkar may have
initially been for merging Goa with Maharashtra, he respected the people’s
verdict and later toiled with a vision and passion towards the development
of Goa. Unlike many of today’s politicians who are self-centered, he
relentlessly raised and pursued issues concerning the backward,
down-trodden, and neglected communities of Goa. Leaders of his integrity,
honesty and commitment we may now never see in today’s shoddy arena of
political pygmies.

Dayanand Bandodkar dared to speak from his heart and always walked the
talk. Only a few of such politicians still remain in our midst and will
also be always remembered for the good they have done for Goa. About the
rest and in particularly some of the current rabid Ministers in power who
have been steering and navigating Goa down the tube there will be no
obituary to write and no land remaining to even raise a Samadhi, leave
alone a statue in their memory.

It is imperative that students today in our schools and colleges should be
made aware of the very rich and invaluable contribution to Goa
by Dayanand Bandodkar who cannot be consigned as our forgotten hero.
Dayanand Bandodkar must
be rolling in heavenly abode at the way Goa is being uncaringly misgoverned
today.

As a school student I had the privilege of interacting with
Dayanand Bandodkar and recollect with nostalgia witnessing those great
debates in the Legislative Assembly and his pointed but witty replies.
Today the Goa Legislative assembly has been reduced to a mere classroom
keeping MLAs entertained with the tales of Birbal being narrated.

Politics today is no longer a mission, not even an honest profession. It
has been abridged to a scoundrel’s last resort. It has become a ruthless
business, with morals and ethics twisted, thrown to the winds, and long
buried deep in the slush of ignorance and thuggery. Those belonging to a
genre of politicians with qualities of head and heart cannot survive in
today’s political arena. It is only for those who are thick skinned and
hypocrites to the core, always ready to breach and bend all the rules to
survive.

It is distressing to see and be witness to the continuing rampant
destruction and devastation of Goa. Our State is so sadly by the day just
getting further corroded beyond recognition. It should have been the
endeveaour of those in power to at least salvage and safeguard what remains
of Goa.

Dayanand Bandodkar was a friend and carer of the poor. The recent rulers
have faked to be the Messiahs of Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn but to
everyone’s absolute disappointment it has been sheer Fot, Foting and
Fotingponn all the way.

[Goanet] PRAMOD SAWANT SHOULD STOP FOOLING GOANS

2019-08-12 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Perhaps drained out after 20 long days of bluffing the Legislative
Assembly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is off to Russia on a holiday.

With the mining issue stalled in the Courts, it is laughable that the Chief
Minister has claimed that he wants to explore mining opportunities in
Russia. Pramod Sawant should stop fooling the people on the mining
imbroglio which continues to linger in the dumps.

And all these foreign jaunts at tax payer’s expense will not also yield any
results in attracting quality tourists as long as Goa’s basic
infrastructure remains
pathetic.

While Goa is recovering from the recent floods it was very high-handed on
the part of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to have proceeded on a junket to
Russia and that too when our State is debt ridden.

Goa today has been officially reduced to a narcotic, sex, gambling
and crime haven. A very unsafe destination in a very sorry state of
affairs. Posterity will never forgive the current bunch of ruling
politicians for their selfish role in the irreparable damage and
destruction of what was once known as beautiful Goa, the Paradise of the
East.
