[Goanet] CHRISTIAN BURIAL RITES

2019-10-25 Thread godfrey gonsalves
This writer chanced to meet a migrant grave digger/caretaker at one of the
cemeteries post an anniversary Mass down South.  He was readying a grave to
receive another. In a chat about his job profile and query on what remains
behind of deceased person; he informed me discreetly that he was not too happy
about the items placed in grave by the members of the bereaved families. He
went on to narrate about the clothes, shoes, some would also put all personal
clothes, "bottles" glass bangles and other material belongings of the deceased.
There were others who would decorate their graves with wreaths flowers draped
in plastic.  Thus he lamented that even after over four years besides some
skeletal remains viz skull, femur bones et al several non-perishable materials
would be found.
He feels that such material cause injuries at the time of excavation and are a
hazard to the gravedigger besides it amounts to avoidable waste..
Rightly said.
In fact, what baffles one is that when we preach measures to save our
environment. is it not time that we sit up and give a re-look.
Here is food for thought.
Do we need to bury the deceased suited and booted or dressed in bridal attire,
ornaments et al? Would a linen shroud not suffice? If JC could why not ordinary
mortals?  Is a  wooden coffin needed? Can we not lay the deceased in the grave
on a bed of leaves?  Are the rituals labeled "monthly" yearly, unavoidable?
After all, we say RIP
These were some stray thoughts expressed to this writer later that day.

Finally is cremation not a better option?

[Goanet] THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE INDIAN JUDICIARY INPERIL

2019-10-25 Thread Aires Rodrigues
In a very retrograde and questionable move the Supreme Court so abruptly
and without prior notice or warning has suddenly stopped uploading the
resolutions of its collegium recommending High Court and Supreme Court
judges for appointment and transfers. From October 2017, the resolutions
put up on the Supreme Court website gave brief details on the procedure by
which nominees were recommended or rejected by the collegium. This allowed
some clarity into a method that has been time and again severely criticized
for its lack of transparency and sheer arbitrariness.

It is unclear as to why this sudden move has occurred, as no resolution of
the collegium has been uploaded stating that the practice of making public
the resolutions of the collegium will be stopped. It is all the more
legally distrustful since the practice was started as a result of the
collegium itself resolving to make its resolutions public.

At a time when the collegium has come under increasing pressure from all
quarters over some of its very contentious decisions, now to simply refuse
to disclose any further information about its decisions smacks of absolute
institutional spinelessness. Worse still the country will view this
backward move with suspicion and disappointment that the highest court in
the land may have surrendered its own good practices of transparency as a
result of external influence or because they have something to hide. This
will erode the faith of people in the judiciary.

An effective judiciary guarantees fairness in judicial processes and
transparency.Any argument that transparency will undermine independence is
not valid as the public has the right to know as much as possible without
infringing on privacy, about those who sit in judgement on their fate. The
public must be confident that the judiciary is beyond reproach.
Transparency is a fundamental component of judicial independence. We can
only assure this independence if we have relevant information about the
judiciary and its performance.

As an Advocate, I am extremely pained to have to candidly comment on our
nation’s highest Court but I would have had to bear the guilt of remaining
a silent spectator to what is obviously intrinsically wrong with the
Judiciary at the highest level casting a gloom and doom on what has been
perceived as the common man’s last hope for Justice.

[Goanet] GOA CASINO OWNER SET TO BE MINISTER IN HARYANA

2019-10-25 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The very controversial former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda who owns the BIG
DADDY casino floating in Goa’s River Mandovi is one of the potential
kingmakers in the just held Haryana Assembly elections.

After the results yesterday Gopal Kanda was amongst those MLAs swiftly
flown to Delhi by a Special flight to meet the BJP top brass. Gopal Kanda
who heads the Haryana Lokhit Party won the Sirsa Assembly seat by a mere
602 votes. He is one of the eight MLAs the BJP is seeking to poach to form
the Government in Haryana. Besides a cabinet berth Gopal Kanda may also
demand that the BJP government in Goa facilitate his Casino trade.

In 2012, Gopal Kanda was arrested after one of his employees, Geetika
Sharma, left a suicide note accusing him of harassment. At that time, the
BJP held protests against him, demanding his resignation as minister and
his arrest. Geetika's mother also committed suicide later. He was also
jailed in the case. He was let off on bail in 2014. The same year, he
contested the Haryana polls and lost. In 2016, Gopal Kanda and his brother
Govind were charged for alleged illegal property development in Sirsa.

Gopal Kanda and Babush Monseratte seem to be birds of the same feather!

[Goanet] India in turmoil

2019-10-25 Thread Nelson Lopes

BJP is master of hype and blaster
It has achieved the fine art of constant blabber of all things right. It
comments and retorts at every criticism gauntlet thrown at it. Time will soon
take over to uncover the mAsk of lies and deceit
Yoga is one day wonder that has outlived its propaganda. The Jan Dan accounts
have resulted in profit for banks as non operative dead accounts. Toilets have
fallen into disuse due to lack of water and change in attitudinal, traditional
behaviour. Free gas has created difficulties as recipients are not able to pay
for refill. Demonetisation short term pain continues to be long term pain. Cow

protection receives more protection than rapists, murderers with harsher
punishment. Good and simplevtax(GST) has broken the economy with consequences
for lack of demand ,unemployment and shut downs . The restriction on beef is
invading into people’s choice of food . Two child norm touted recently has
minority overtones. The euphoria of surgical strikes and art 370 is giving
diminishing returns. The extreme stress on Nationalism is labelling all and
sundry protesters as traitors. Thr raids on opposition leaders is a sign of
persecution mania to bend their outbursts and to cow them down. ED and CBI are
doing at the masters bidding It appears that all economic offenders are on the
side of opposition
The rise in prices , farmers suicides continues unabated .The terrorists
continue to haunt security apparatus.with consequences of forces casualties
that are alarming The trade imbalance with USA,China and border skirmishes
have not shown any decline. The foreign tours are a grand spectacle for PM and
mass media with little to sing about for make in India proposal Save drinking
water is another jumble as water saved will not quench the thirst of millions
without water. instead the targets to water conservation, water management.
Augumenting of water supply is much more needed
Cleanliness with much fun fare has gone for Ross in spite of swach Bharat
taxation The failure at the shot at the moon deprived BJP of propaganda
advantage
Govt is continuously tinkering with economic policies with no signs of revival
expected. The reduced election results in Maharashtra , Harayana have pricked
the bubble of invincibility , yet in its characteristic style the BJP is
gloating over continued support for its policies as a sign
The disillusionment is slowly setting in and the emphasis one man vision is on
the ebb .TheBJP is totally relying on one and half man show
It is best at diversions to avoid direct confrontations with reality
The debates are appearing to be interfered by subtle directions against
criticism of Govt. Press too is playing safe deleting references that will be
hurt the sentiments of the King
What India needs is economic revival that will set all other parameters in
order
BJP is continuously finding faults with previous regime , Congress and policies
and constantly flogging the same issues of dynasty I in contrast to one man
rule and dependence at all times
India can only progress as multi cultural, linguistic and religious entity.
The glory of Ram temple construction is not the solution
Fortunately PM is on constant move on foreign visit more than ever witnessed by
India is last seven decades One wonders who rules and decides policies in his
absence
