[Goanet] black marketing in covid drugs

2020-07-18 Thread Nelson Lopes
 Covid drugs in black market

In India anything is possible , leave alone drugs at the time of pandemic. One
wonders whether it is intended that way to push up the brand. Remdesvir is one
such repurposed drug available and that is sold at a premium and not the only
specific one Costing officially Rs 5400/ a dose is quoted at Rs 45000 to Rs
3/ and is available at short notice ,without official receipt of
course.Though there is a talk of crackdown on hoarders and black marketeers
that is mere bakwas. Why not supply it directly to hospitals and ask them to
keep details, instead of demanding Aadhar card as proof. It will reduce
sellers margin besides authenticity and supply will be assured at source
.There are number of repurposed drugs like Fabiflue costing rs 75 per tablet
and Itolizumbab at Rs 35000/ per single dose and which are authorised and
made in India by our desi pharmaceutical companies
The clamour for foreign is lingering in our pshyche in spite of cry for self
reliance by PM. Fortunately there is no black marketing, in Indian alternative
, profiteering even though the effect is comparable as preventive and not cure
These are sure marketing strategies resorted to promote sales by creating
artificial demand and short supply and cashing on the misery of those who need
most

[Goanet] storm in a tea cup

2020-07-18 Thread Nelson Lopes

The inuocous remark of the CM has received not too a polite retort by Satypal
Malik ,while accusing the former of improper language .The CM is not known to
be offensive or caustic in his responses and has maintained polite , dignified
respectful behaviour
The Governor who was in J is finding the atmosphere here too cold for his
dominant attitude and authoritarian streak in a completely different settings
He has proved to be no nonsense Head during tumultuous period and exercised his
authority with no holes bared approach .He has dealt with high and mighty
including the political heavy weights .He feels that he has nothing to lose
coming from one and half room residence and can be transferred not sacked He
has authored tough and unconventional approach in J while displaying soft
and mild impressions. while taking harsh independent decisions. There is not
much room for political drama here and to assert his authority except that
the disgruntled political elements get spring to wake up from political
slumber. He is known to be more than accommodating giving opposing audiences
a patient hearings to their grumblings and frustration and ,which is miss
interpreted as cooperation for brewing revolts
One is at a loss why such a known tough authority is suddenly posted as Goa
Governor to relax after a hard innings of pressure and tensions and where
there is no fertile ground for his interventions
Goa in the past has dubious record of worst kind in change of Govts , but is
not a sensitive law and order state of India .Presentlythere is a stable
BJP Govt and with hand picked , acceptable successor from oblivion . Besides
the curtain is already drawn on drama of defections, unless trouble is
fermenting over disqualification petition being delayed in defiance of SC
directions to dispose it in time bound manner , In such a circumstance the
prominent role of Governor will cone to fore
One need not be supper sensitive and take umbrage of a rare ,unintentional
remark as uncivilised to rake up a storm to prove existence and superiority
and unless one is inkling for an excuse.
CM is far from being boisterous or arrogant but his mild nature and not so
assertive authority has seem him through so far not being in the mould of his
authoritarian predecessors .Hopefully the storm in a tea cup will blow over
and the highest constitutional authorities will work in unison at the time of
crisis of pandemic andnot on ego appetite to assert supremacy

[Goanet] Market for Goan Books

2020-07-18 Thread John Nazareth

About a year or two I wrote about this subject on Goanet and want to repeat it
as a sign of hope to those who despair.

I befriended Frederick Noronha in the early 2010s after being enthralled with
his Goa1556 books.
In 2014 I bought a whole bunch of books from him - about 100 copies of about 30
titles and asked him to ship them by the slowest mail to reduce the price.
I then sold them at a stall at the GOA Toronto's St Francis Xavier Social. I
priced them at my cost (list price plus apportioned shipping charges) to
encourage people to read.
In total I sold about 60 books at that Social. (The rest I gave away as gifts
over the years.)

In 2016 when I visited Goa to do my genealogy research at the Panjim Historical
Archives I bought about enough to fill a small suitcase - perhaps 30 Goan
books. (When I arrived back in Toronto the suitcase was totally wrecked - but
it held together!) These again I would sell a cost or give as gifts instead of
taking wine bottles for a party.

There is a demand for them, but it takes a lot of trouble. One needs to have a
love for books, and a love to read. (I make the time as I am not a TV watcher.)
Perhaps my brother Peter's example has led me in this direction - but there is
so much to learn
There is so much that is interesting about Goans.
( I read a lot of other stuff. For example, my favourite read over the last 35
years has been Church history, Christian Theology, the history of theology,
Bible study. I also read Canadian history. So it's not that I am easily
pleased.)
Goan history and anthropology is fascinating - and I learnt more about Goans by
reading about Canada.
One of the things that is being lost is an appreciation for the Goan clan
system. I wrote a short article and published it (see attached) because even in
Goa people have largely forgotten about this.
(Incidentally, a more extensive article about clans and the Moira gaunkari has
been written by Leroy Veloso and published in Augusto's recent publication
about the Moira Club.)

Besides that the Goan experience in countries around the world is of phenomenal
interest. (Special thanks to Selma).

Cheers

John

I don't think that's possible.

As I pointed out we Goans from Goa, or first generation Goans like me or Eugene
or Selma who were brought up outside Goa in Africa or Bombay or the Gulf, have
vastly different ideas about what Goan-ness means as opposed to their second or
third level generation descendants.

Imagine the sort of things we could do, the sort of projects we could carry

Dream, dream, dream,

Dream, dream,

If I loved you...

Selma let me tell you that I think that you live in a dream world.

What you seem to say is that the offspring of first aind second generation
should love Goa.

Why?

Let's deal with the last of the lot like Gilbert Lawrence and Roland Francis
and so on and so forth who still have some memories of Goa and indeed India.

[Goanet] YOUR TIME IS UP, MR PROPERTY SAWANT

2020-07-18 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The continuance of Pramod Sawant as Chief Minister of Goa is now clearly
untenable. The accidental Chief Minister has miserably failed on all fronts
and for the last few months, there is a glaring lack of leadership,
planning and resolve to deal with a raging pandemic spiraling out of
control and the economy which was stagnating is now just worsening. Pramod
Sawant should infact gracefully step aside and try to enjoy that huge real
estate empire he was swiftly acquired through all the ill-gotten wealth.
But what the Almighty has in store is another issue.

Pramod Sawant evidently does not enjoy the confidence of even Governor
Satya Pal Malik who has been in Goa for just eight months but has clearly
gauged the dynamics and affairs of the State. During my last meeting with
him I could see how pained and distressed the Governor was on the manner in
which Goa was sinking.

Governor Malik is truly concerned about our State like former Governors Lt
Gen. J.F.R. Jacob and Mr. B.V. Wanchoo. About some of the others less said
the better including Mridula Sinha.

Governor Satya Pal Malik is very modest, practical and someone who believes
in delivering good governance to the poorest of the poor. A gregarious
personality with a robust heart who has always been a socialist. He is
indeed a good listener with a very clear mind and believes in achieving
results. A very caring and considerate soul he is.

Goa is at this critical time crying out for calm, sincere and experienced
political leadership. Union Minister Shripad Naik may well be BJP’s person
to fill that vacuum. The quote ‘Cometh the hour cometh the man’ is so apt
at this challenging and uncertain times.
