[Goanet] "Avoi Ghe Mai": Goan-Mangalorean Tiatr in Texas

2022-03-27 Thread Cynthia James
Hello all,
On World Theater Day (March 27th), I am immensely proud of what our
Dallas-based Goan-Mangalorean diaspora community accomplished with our Tiatr
"Avoi Ghe Mai" which was "made in Texas" in 2018.

Avoi Ghe Mai is a musical comedy about a Goan girl and a Mangalorean boy, who
are courting despite objections from their mothers. The tiatr was written,

www.youtube.com
Most of the Goan origin actors here in Dallas did not really know Konkani,
while most of the Mangalorean origin actors were/are pretty fluent. So, it was
an uphill but fun journey, from the beginning, just reading the script, written
by this Bomoicar in Romi, and having to translate my Goan Konkani lines into
Mangalorean Konkani verbiage for the Mangalorean characters in the story.

To serve the Dallas GEMs audience (Goans, East Indians, Mangaloreans) who don't
speak much Konkani, I had to use a couple of theatrical ploys to help them
along: my story included one character who does not know Konkani and needs
another character to translate for her, and we had a narrator introducing each
scene in English, so the majority of the audience, including kids, could follow
along. With a lot of work, love, and fun, we produced and staged the tiatr in
2018.

I watch this video now and still can't get over the outstanding,
no-holds-barred performances. Just mind-blowing to see this amateur talent in
our diaspora community thousands of miles away from Goa and Mangalore, right
here in Dallas. "Mai bhasachi mog assundi". Please watch and support us. Thank
you.

[Goanet] OATH OF OFFICE -- CONSTITUTIONAL SOLEMNITY TURNED INTO COSTLY CARNIVAL

2022-03-27 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Goa will today witness the much delayed swearing-in ceremony of the Chief
Minister and his cabinet being held in contentious circumstances.

After the Chief Minister having been selected by the Delhi leaders, the
list of cabinet Ministers has also been finalized by the BJP High Command
and Goa is set to be now run by Delhi which will ensure the further
destruction and devastation of what remains of our beloved land.

On the occasion of this official solemn function being needlessly and
pompously held at Shama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, besides the very
exorbitant expenditure, we will today have to bear the brunt of traffic
chaos all over. With almost the entire police personnel deployed for this
occasion, today most police stations and their outposts will be staffless.

In the manner in which official functions are being organized it looks like
the BJP is more in Event management than rendering Good Governance.

Infact the BJP a decade ago on 9th March 2012 held the swearing in ceremony
of its government at Sports Authority of Goa grounds in Campal, which
function cost the State exchequer a whopping Rs 10, 91,782 of which Rs
66,000 was spent on 222 kgs of peddas, Rs 93,120 on water bottles while Rs
48,000 on 6000 batata vadas and another Rs 48,000 on the 6000 vegetable
patties. We will soon know how much today’s extravaganza is costing the
taxpayers. Public funds cannot be squandered in this manner especially with
the State coffers empty.

[Goanet] Stiff traffic fines

2022-03-27 Thread Nelson Lopes
Stiff trafic fines
The much delayed fines for traffic violations are finely enforced. The
Govt will add much needed boost to their dwindling coffers. Detrents like
gallows have never stooped crimes of most heinous nature and hence death
sentence even is now abolished. In USA life sentence extends to period
beyond average life span, thus incarceration criminals in perpetual
confinement. In India life sentence is 14 years Stiff punishment of
amputations for drug traffickers in gulf has not deterred at all and
stopped drug trafficking
The Govt first must improve the motorable conditions of roads, provide
lighting, paint regularly speed breakers, clear overhanging branches, cut
dangerous trees, display sign boards , prevent flooding broaden roads, use
road taxes to do it., if the purpose is to avoid roads accidents and
fatalities STIFF fines is a bonanza to police, who in the past have been
accused of duplicate fine books and were forced with daily quota of
generating fines
Alternatively command them to render social service , impose temporary
prison term,
, suspend licence for various periods., and finally cancell driving licence
for repeated dangerous violations which are more painful ways to deter.
Does increase fuel costs deter any owners in using public transport The
vehicle in use if confiscated will not recover the costs of fines, then
what?
Any measure must be prortionate to the nature of crime. The measures adopted
by RTO, and ways to bypass and even get fitness certificate, driving
licence and fee commanded for post is an open secret
Where does the rot lie ? Wearing of seat belts, helmets, speed regulations
fitness certificates are in best interst of the owner or rider and
ludicrous enforcement from outside, hence education even in schools will
conscientise users

[Goanet] Swearing in public is tamasha

2022-03-27 Thread Nelson Lopes
Swearing in tamasha

In India any occasion of celebration is opium to the masses. The swearing in
process must be conducted in the sacred premises of the Assembly. In stead
it is being conducted on a grand scale at public venues. The expenses
involvelled are borne by the exchequer. It is a needless waste of scarce
resources that could find more productive avenues.People should boycott
this tamasha ,which is only to satisfy egos of politicians and parties,
fool the people of great victory where 67 % voted against BJP .Swearing
in is now given a festive look and converted into a massive exercise of
celebrations The highlight in Goa is the visit of high profile PM, that
will add to the glamour and attract visitors at their costs . The cost,
security of PM will be very high indeed No doubt the MLA'S will be
compelled to ferry specific quota of voters free of costs to boost crowds
and free loaders have nothing to lose with cash incentives too in food
packets as usual
Those who stand to benefit by direct association will surely register their
presence and attendance. It is also possible only those who are transported
free with refreshment will make it to the venue
Where else in the world swearing in formality is a public, grand
celebrations and outside the legislatures?
Propaganda and hype is the diet of new rulers, resorting to incentives and
indifference to wasteful expenditure to convert it into a carnaval
Aghast at the authoritarian dictat that those in black attire right up to
socks will be barred from the avenue. This dictatorial attitude in a
democracy is abhorrent

On the Subject: [Goanet] Ukraine -Follow The Money
Message-ID:

Yes whether it is in Goa or Tanzania we jump to conclusion …George Pinto
was and is right

Follow The Money and of course it is OFTEN difficult to do so

Here Dar es Salaam in the last 48 hours…I have attended a Policy Forum,
accompanied an investment advisor to talk to a manager of a bank and
Listened to a small crowd listening to why the bread and diesel prices have
risen so fast….Yes follow the Petro Dollars …My friend Mervyn Lobo living
in Texas gave the example how the price of I barrel had sunk to US $ 60 in
less than a month it is + 100 US $ a barrel !

The four speakers at the Policy Forum were all Bureaucrats …not a beep on
the real implication of the necessity of curbing use of petroleum. Oh yes
they did talk of gold and other strategic minerals ….No mention of Ukraine
or Russia etc ….

Specifically I am impressed …I quote you

>>>

A brief explanation of the petrodollar. Etc etc

The US will tolerate everything in a country. Corruption, dictators,
genocide - everything but replacement of the petrodollar.

Joao Barros-Pereira has a related theme ..to lighten the situation
