You seem to think all the responsibility of the mess lies with the politicians.

Has the DGP no spine to handle them with the weight of his position and the
backing of the Supreme Court?

[Goanet] MR. JASPAL SINGH, WELCOME BACK TO GOA

2022-04-08 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Jaspal Singh who has taken over as Goa’s Director General of Police is no
stranger to Goa. He was first posted here as Assistant Superintendent of
Police in 1999 and in 2017 as IGP. Indra Dev Shukla who has retired as DGP
during his short stint tried his best to uplift the police force which over
the years has sadly been lacking independence in its functioning with the
politicians in power having done all they can to systematically erode the
powers and authority of the DGP.

The Supreme Court has time and again ruled that the police should be wholly
insulated from any political pressure, whatsoever, so as to be able to
secure the citizen's rights under the Constitution and that the Police
should be allowed to freely and fearlessly discharge their fundamental
duties of ensuring law and order while upholding the Rule of law.

For good public policing the politicians should never use the police to
target their political opponents and to silence voices of dissent.
Politicians publicly speak about the independence of the police and of law
taking its own course, but the ground reality is very different as they
interfere and unduly intervene even in the day to day working of the
police. We have a lot of good and smart police but unfortunately their
brains and investigative skills are in the custody of the politicians whose
line they have to tow.

Tackling the grave drug menace, rising crime and enormous corruption at all
levels of governance are some of the challenges Jaspal Singh will have to
grapple with as the new DGP of Goa. Let us all wishing him well.

Re: [Goanet] Sad plight of Postmen ... (Nelson Lopes)

2022-04-08 Thread Roland Francis
So also Canada in tandem with the Netherlands.

Canada Post has been privatized and mail delivery is not daily. In some new
sub-divisions (locales) there is a bank of post boxes at one spot. Each house
has a box and key and collect their mail when they want to. Going out in winter
is a chore. The mail consists mostly of flyers, bills and government mail.

Canada Post compensates for revenue by raising mail prices, by reducing
postmen, by commercial bulk mail and through their Purolator courier service.

Each door to door postman gets a van which he parks at a spot on the streets
and walks from there to house delivery. They don’t get the benefits and salary
they used to and definitely not the solid pensions they used to get after
retirement.

[Goanet] Language And Culture Go Together Like Horse And Carriage!

2022-04-08 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
The language issue is becoming hotter than the summer heat. The
proposal by Amit Shah to replace Hindi as the link language has
spontaneously made almost all Indians living in the south of India
angry beyond rational explanation.

It is a paradox which we are witnessing as language and culture go
together! It is not possible to separate the two as they are
intertwined and one with our identities.

On the face of it the choice of English appears bizarre as a link
language but it is not as the language and culture of English is
perceived to be foreign even though English has been around this
country for centuries and we are the second largest English speaking
country in the world.

Indian identities are superficially linked to both the language and
culture of English. Both will always remain superficial and foreign.

Hindi is perceived as a threat to non-Hindi languages and cultures in
the south of India as this country is a multi-lingual and equally
important a multi-cultural country. There is a clear clash of cultural
identities.

Indians living in the south see a clash between Hindi language and
culture of the north and Tamil or any other south Indian language and
culture in the south of India.

 Aloha,

Sad but also strange story. I would have thought that in India postmen wouyld
still be state employees with a secure & (relatively) well paid job, like
befits an essential public service. It is no longer like that in the
Netherlands, always at the forefront orf neo-liberalism, where the post office
has been privatized (while keeping the label 'Royal' for branding purposes
...), the postmen de-officialised and contractualised, while in Germany they
remain civil servants who must swear loyalty to the constitution ... When she
was young my mother stayed a few months in a farm high up in the French Alps,
and the postman would come every day from the village post office far down in
the valley, through snow and ice if necessary, with that one single letter ...
from het lover - whom she never married in the end ...

 Cheers to all, p+7D!
And the postal mail will go the same way as the telegraph ...

[Goanet] Unequal development

2022-04-08 Thread Nelson Lopes
Umequal development
THE CM belongs to the State of Goa and not of just BJP alone .It has
always been seen and known that so called developmental plans are a
priority in the constituencies of MLA's belonging to the parry. In power.
Besides all projects are expedited to give a boost to the legislator and
the party.It therefore appears that
development will only flow in the constituencies where party is in power
The opposition is left to beg and plead serious requirements of their
constituencies which are politely delayed as long as possible even towards
the end of term ,designed to discredit the opposition Hence in order to
show results legislators must show visible projects on ground that will
bolster their prospects in next election. THIS is the malaise that afflicts
our system. It also leads to poaching and defections with aim of perpetual
win in elections and to occupy position of power and influence.
Hence the CM worth its salt and concerned about welfare of the state must
equally distribute resources in all constituencies without bias and
favoritism. Govt appointments too are dished out to legislators of party
Govt of India in order to correct this anamoly to some extent releases
grant equally to all MP ,s .Could this be replicated to MLA,s at State
level not to depend upon largesse of state CM.?The development of Goa must
not be confined to some islands of favoritism

[Goanet-News] A Prayer... in Sanskrit

2022-04-08 Thread Frederick Noronha
The Lord's Prayer... as a Sanskrit bhajan
https://www.facebook.com/JTbangalore/videos/2089854361167681

It's a beautiful time:
Muslims are fasting for Ramzan
Hindus are fasting for Navratri
Christians are fasting for Lent
Paths may be different, but the values are the same: Belief, Abstinence,
Kindness, Gratitude, Empathy, and Selflessness.
Let's help each other. Never ignore if you find an opportunity to help
anyone. Serving the people of God is the best service to God.
Let's pray to end the war, let's pray to end the hatred and discrimination.
May everyone get bread and butter, and may everyone get good health,
education, and shelter.
