[Goanet] Requiem for Lions Club of Chinchinim
Requiem for Lion' s Club of Chinchinim It was the initiative of late Prof LJ.Denis my teacher at St Xaviers Bombay. Introduced him to potential members but it was a disappointment when request was politely declined. He persisted in his efforts and enrolled second order of people and thus established LIONS Club at Chinchinim. Membership internationally to prestigious Club is tough. But with proliferation of clubs in Villagers demanding standards had to be lowered Hence even tigers, leopards foxes adorned Lions attire.Lions are professionals businessmen Industrialist and prominent citizens otherwise. It started with a bang and regret ended with a whimper Some past presidents like Eng Gabriel, Adv Velho, Sarto Furtado John Dias kept the flag flying high. Many left as the international contributions and yearly dues on activities were stiff for many members..Resource mobilization did not succeed Enthusiasm too was on wane and popularity was hinged on activities to prove existence. The number of members were just enough to form required administrative committee Felicitation of rank holders of Chinchinim schools was first priority and then trickled down to recognition of teachers The bus stand near the Communidade building and at St Sebastian Chapel leaves their legacy of identity to remind and serves a useful purpose. The Panchayat should in collaboration with schools must maintain cleanliness and upkeep, now that Lions Club of Chinchinim has folded up >From the initial euphoria or lack of interests it was bound to happen sooner than later. The Club did provide an opportunity for leadership , management resource mobilization communication skills building fellowship and enhancing sphere of influence and commitment for social service The Lions Ladies were a crowning glory adding glamour of sort and providing them a platform for social interaction It is a pity and lack of foresight that the tail enders did not exert pressure and efforts to ensure continuity Being prominent and influential group they did and could project needs more effectively with Govt and other organisations At one point P.CTrust wanted to entrust schemes to the Club for administration and it was not a worthy idea after all as it looks now Similarly Junor Jaycees International then headed by late Cyprian Lopes winded up too for similar reasons..The footprints still linger in the form of an instituted award for Konkanni for the highest marks in the subject at SSC from amongst the schools of Chinchinim Village However limited they served the Village and a purpose All good things must finally come to an end seems prophetic Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
[Goanet] Parashuram for Hindus, Xavier for Roman Catholics, and Who for Muslims?
In the interest of communal harmony someone wrote the above but unfortunately did not include our Muslim brothers and sisters! Why Muslims? Yes, Muslims and tribals too have to be included if Goa’s iconic communal reputation is going to have form and content and is not simply a large balloon advertising a feku product. If Muslims are invaders so are the Portuguese. All three will be saints not having their roots in Goan soil unlike the tribal saints. No problem. We cannot change the past. Muslims are no johnny-come-lately as they were here in Goa prior to the Portuguese. We need to provide democratic rights to our saints. They are dead which is a requirement but we are not - and to show respect to all of them they should stand on an equal pedestal. If we do this then no one - no one can say our communal harmony is plastic and fake!

[Goanet] Plight of special children
Plight of special children Many of us are complete without any physical and mental defects. We need to thank God for this gift of being perfect in all respects and which makes us indifferent and take for granted. The compassion towards such individuals is not a natural response due to their limited numbers Besides being socially isolated and deprived, they are a mental burdened to the parents ,family with financial liabilities too. They may be a small number but their needs are monumental. Some special schools are a big relief but such facilities are not widespread and costs also are prohibitive Govt extends financial benefits to physically disabled but the formalities are daunting task to comply and are time consuming. The general belief is that such special children are a curse ,restitution, punishment for some past faults in the family .But the perception is misplaced and it is an guilt complex with unnecessary pain without any special reasons of conclusions The parents during their lifetime spend their fortunes in time and resources in their maintenance and welfare. There are no special residential outlets to house them to meet their special needs These spcial children have specific needs often beyond the means of the families Special chairs, crutches medicines, pampers and even daily food requirements There is am individual on Deussua Chinchinim who has made it her mission to cater to such individuals in a limited way She raises resources through home made pickles wines donatios , etc Sone donations at times come in handy to reduce the burdened. The greatest joy to these special children is to feel loved and cared for She visits them on birthdays Christmas, new year, Diwali, and feast days carrying little gifts of love. They are also entertained by the committed group at their residencesThese individuals are spread beyond geographical boundaries Chinchinim Village Once a year these children are sponsored by well wishers on an excursions accompanied by the parents. For the first time ever our present MLA has volunteered to sponsor the event .It is a great encouragement for a worthy cause without political.mileageThe greatest moments of happiness for a day.Everyone is presented with a meaningful gift Chinchinim Village is proud that such a venture is being attended to by our considerate residents. There is hardly any publicity to this special compassionate activity in existence for over years. It is an activity of love , dedication and social commitment For the media II is not revenue generating message that deserves some space. It is all an individual effort with a group of dedicated individuals.Chinchinim residents need not only to be aware but actively participate in thi humanitarian effort in any way they can The P.CTrust had appreciated recognised and affirmed the promoter and honoured with a citation, publicity in konkani and English news paper Salute the promoter and also the benefactor who wish to be anonymous Nelson Lopes CHAIRMAN

[Goanet] Present Hypocrisy and The Past Savagery of Stalin
I was in the USA in UCLA. in 1964 ...nothing turned me more from savage wars than to see a preteen Vietnamese girl having her skin melt by the chemical heat of a napalm bomb .. It is all a matter of selling arms ...something that President Dwight Eisenhower had warned against the establishment of <<>> The speech lasted less than 10 minutes, and was delivered on January 17, 1961. That is 61 years ago. I want to go further back when Stalin..the dictator and his advisor went on a spree of killing . One of the people Stalin killed was probably one of the greatest Russian Scientist called Vavilov. He was a Agriculturalist, geneticist and inorder to end famines in Russia and in the world came with the idea of the world hot spot of tyhe main grain. \In Africa he spent time in Ethopia/Eritrea and would most probably have visited East AFrica. He spent time in several European Universities. Through sheer bad advise he was sentenced to death. In fact starved to death. His crime he was a bourgeois. Khrushchev over 40 years later declared him a national hero. You might wonder what has all this to do with the present. Well you heard of a fellow called Iddi Amin and the havoc this General caused..not only to Asians but even to fellow Africans . He took pleasure in seeing humans being eaten by crocodiles. The irony is that these types of episodes can take place in any country ...even in Tanzania. Fortunately the Almighty spared us from a dictator, During the few years of the rule of the Fifth President we lost more reporters and even an attempted assissination of a leading member of the opposition. There are telltale signs when things do not seem quite right. We were lucky in Tanzania we had Divine Intervention. We followed the constitution .after the death of the Fifth President the Vice President succeeded so Tanzania has a Lady President.. She categorically told the people that <<>>>But that alone is not enough. Universities, other institutions and citizens can and participate, It could make a difference. ,,, Grandolfo In a shopping Mall
[Goanet] IS CM’S WIFE NOW UNOFFICIAL GOVT SPOKESPERSON?
Everything that any sensible Government does must always be in the best interest of its people. Every decision must be citizens centric and never for the selfish benefit of those in Power to line their pockets. The March 28th puffed-up swearing in ceremony and that Lifetime cabinet status are two recent glaring examples where public good went for a toss. There is also need of a law to hold the political parties and those contesting elections accountable to all promises made to the voters. At the Assembly elections held in February this year, the BJP had promised the moon and must start delivering on all that was assured. One of the promises made was that ‘every household’ would get three free LPG cylinders a year. In yet another typical U-turn we are now told that only those Below Poverty Line (BPL) would be entitled. A very devious trick by the government whose move has now been steadfastly supported by Chief Minister’s wife Sulakshana Sawant, despite the cost of a LPG cylinder now touching a thousand rupees and hurting even the middle class. Ironically while the BJP was in the Opposition, the very Sulakshana Sawant as President of State Mahila Morcha had vociferously hit the streets on every price rise of essential Commodities. And now with Sulakshana Sawant having blurted as a virtual spokesperson of the Government, for us all it is ‘Bhivpachi Garaz Asa’. Adv. [Goanet] ARROGANCE & EGO A SIGN OF BAD GOVERNANCE
It is despicable that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his BJP Party are justifying the astronomical expenditure incurred on that March 28th swearing in ceremony. They claim that the Party’s big mandate justified the grand event. Firstly the swearing in ceremony is a solemn State affair which should not be transformed into a Party mela at the taxpayer’s expense, which is exactly what was witnessed at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim. The now cash rich BJP could have organized their own banquet to rejoice if they felt that winning 20 seats and the government now on borrowed props was a big mandate. But the moot question is whether with the State exchequer in very dire straits and gasping for breath, should have done so. The government has squandered over 5.5 crores of taxpayer’s money on that 18 minute tamasha. Eventually, when the final costs are totalled, those expenses could add up to around seven crores. Could such an extravaganza be the priority of a Government with empty coffers? And is this the austerity measures Pramod Sawant has been trumpeting about. Goans across the world are rightly infuriated over the wrong priorities of this government which has managed to hang on to Power by virtue of a contrived mandate by craftily dividing the votes to sneak back into office. Those in power, must at all times act in absolute humility and never out of arrogance. It has been rightly said that Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We are today sadly witnessing all this in our great nation including Goa too. Adv. [Goanet] PHC expansion at Chinchinin
CHC at Chinchinim badly in need of expansion With lack of residential medical practioners, the demand and pressure on CHC has multiplied many fold.More patients are drawn towards this facility then ever before. It was shortsightedness of then acquisition of area for future expansion The centre offering dental , Ayurveda, blood testing and ophthalmic facility has to function in a cramped place intermittently Fortunately with central aid much needed space is fruitfully converted including waiting corridor for the patients.During the pandemic open area was converted with shade to accommodate patients and is not intended to be the garage. There is no facility for any conference or meeting place The owner of the paddy field has fenced the area converting into an orchard with an eye to change into residential zone much against the ownership rights of tenants granted by sanad. There is crying and pending need to convert it into a limited bedded facility with a residential medical officer and a nurse It is hoped that the dynamic ,concerned MLA will prioritize acquisition of additional surrounding area for expansion and request Govt sanction Nelson Lopes Chinchinin
