[Goanet] : PROPOSAL TO HAVE BARDEZ VILLAGE ASSOCIATIONS OF CANADA

PROPOSAL TO HAVE BARDEZ VILLAGE ASSOCIATIONS OF CANADA

PROPOSAL TO HAVE BARDEZ VILLAGE ASSOCIATIONS OF CANADA

   By: Antonio Mascarenhas

Chairman, Alliance of Overseas Goan Village
Associations of Canada

Calangute Church is one of the fifteen deaneries (Vicariates Forane) of the
Archdiocese of Goa and has under its jurisdiction seven parishes in addition to
its own, which includes: Condolim, Nagoa, Nerul, Pilerne, Reis Magos (Verem),
Saligao, Sinquerim (Linhares).

In the past lots of Villages celebrated the Village Feast/Socials in Canada,
but nowadays some of the Villagers are having problems to elect the Village
President to organize the Socials. I am the President of the Calangute
Association, Canada for the last seven years.

I feel each Village could celebrate their Feast on the actual date and once a
year in September celebrate jointly the Bardez Villages Socisl.

For example the Calangute Village will be celebrating the Feast of Patron St.
Alex on actual date, Sunday July 20, 2008 at Sts Peter and Paul Church,
Mississauga and on Saturday, September 13th, 2008 will be celebrating the
Social with Dinner Dance etc. and we would extend our invitation to all the
Villagers of Candolim, Nagoa, Nerul, Pilerne, Reis Magos (Verem), Saligao
Singquerim (Linhares) and all other Villages from Bardez, to join us and
attend the Social to be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2008 at the Woodbine
Banquet Convention Hall, Rexdale, Ontario.(Opp. Woodbine Racetrack).

If it works next two years, we could in future have elected Committee for
2010 year representing each Village and have a joint Social of all the Villages
of Bardez.

If you have any suggestions/comments do not hesitate to contact or e-mail me

2007 CALANGUTE SOCIAL IN CANADA

By: Kevin D'Costa

The Villagers of Calangute joined together on September 15th, 2007 to
celebrate their 16th Anniversary Social and the Feast Of Patron St. Alex.
The Social was held at St. John's Hall, Mississauga, Ontario and was
attended by well over 600 villagers and guests.

Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Darren Dias, O.P. a Goan Priest with ties
to the Calangute community and was promptly followed by lively music
provided by Naked Flames and DJ Carlito. They got the crowd on their feet
and on the dance floor all night long. A sumptuous dinner buffet included
authentic Goan/Italian/Canadian cuisine and everyone enjoyed the delicious
food.

The floor shows included: Corridinho Goan Folk Dance by 8 young Goan
children under the direction of Dr. Lucina Pinto and a Special Goan Michael
Jackson show performed by young Goan boy Orville Maciel. Both shows were
fantastic and were well received by all.

The President of the Calangute Association, Canada, Antonio Mascarenhas,
raised the toast and was proclaimed President unanimously of the Calangute
Association, Canada for another 2 years term (2008/2009).

Congratulations to the President, Antonio Mascarenhas and his Committee for
doing an outstanding job. We all had a wonderful time and look forward to
another successful event next year!

CALANGUTE SOCIAL IN CANADA
   By: Kevin D'Costa

The villagers of Calangute joined together on September 23rd, 2006 to
celebrate their annual social. However, this year's celebration was a
special one, since it was the 15th anniversary of the Calangute Association
in Canada. The social was held at Claireport Place Banquet Hall, Etobicoke,
Ontario and was attended by well over 500 villagers and guests.

Lively music was provided by The Goa Amigos band and DJ Fatz. They got the
crowd on their feet and on the dance floor all night long. A sumptuous
dinner buffet was prepared by authentic
Goan/Portuguese/Italian/Canadian/Ceylon chefs and everyone enjoyed the
delicious food.

The floor shows included an Egyptian Belly Dance, special show by Bailamos
International Dance Studio, Dekni Dance, Goan Medley Dance, and special
songs by Tricia Gilhooly (a Calangute villager).

The President of the Calangute Association, Canada, Antonio Mascarenhas,
raised the toast and Al Mathias, President of Tivim Village thanked the
President and the villagers of Calangute.

Congratulations to the President, Antonio Mascarenhas and his Committee for
doing an outstanding job. Everything ran smoothly and we all had a wonderful
time.

Next year's Calangute Social will be held on September 15, 2007 at St.
John's Hall, Mississauga, Canada. For more information regarding next
year's social please visit the Calangute Association website at
