It was also informed that the legislature wing of the BJP will decide its
independent course of action against Mr Narvekar, during the Monsoon Session of
the state Assembly, if he continues to hold the office.

The onus of sacking the governor is on the President.
Sacking a minister is in the hands of the Chief Minister.

Going soft on Narvenkar Even after being framed in a scandal involving
corruption of a high degree...Narvenkar still continues to hold the finance
portfolio in the current ministry. That any of the current 40 legislators from
any of the parties in Goa have any ethics and are purely driven by greed of the
kodel is a well dramatised fact. I feel that in a democracy, it is not only
the party in power, but also the opposition is to be blamed if such corrupt
people are continuing in power. We take great pride in trying to blame the
chief minister and the ruling congress...but open your eyes wide...see if the
leader of opposition is doing his role well... See the logic...the opposition
goes up to the president to seek the removal of a governor...but goes soft on a
framed minister of the ruling party... At the height of the alleged
molestation case that featured the same minister...it was the guts of the then
leader of opposition ramakanth khalap, ably
supported by the students lobby that led a defiant narvenkar to finally budge
in and resign... Today, nobody seems to go for Narvenkar? And all this
assemblies and mobs claiming to save Goa? First step to save Goa is to get rid
of tainted ministers...but then if that happens..there are hardly any among the
current 40 that are not tainted? Cedric D Dubai

Re: [Goanet] Manohar parrikar - right choice for CM

2007-10-28 Thread Cajetan Rego
Please follow the link http://thegoan.blogspot.com.
I feel Parrikar needs to be given a chance to form govt with full majority.
I had a chat with Parrikar over the phone when he was trying to form the govt
taking support from Babush. He said he was constrained by the current state of
poiltics and had no choice but to form govt if Goa were to be saved from land
sharks, corruption and bankrupcy. He said it would be ideal for Goa if every
politician was non-corrupt and dedicated for Goan's well being, but the reality
was far from this and hence he had to live with such constraints. He would
himself follow his ethics even if he were to side with Babush. He explained
this to me for about 20 min without having met/known me.
After I had this talk, I fully understood his determination and the reason
behind him making a U-turn.
It is true that he had a centralized administrative style. But that is what
is required while dealing with govt servant babus. A near impossible feat like
IFFI 2004 could never have been achieved had he delegated work and expected it
to get done somehow.
IFFI is an investment. The cost that everyone complains about will be
recovered in the years to come by way of tourism and fame.

Read from bottom up:
http://220.226.195.20/cchat/Fan_Answer_Display.php?UserName=CajeRegoRoomID=PARRIKARrn=124224280

The gist of the chat as I interpret is:
The people who withdrew support are so rich that they
cannot be bribed. So Parrikar cannot be behind the
defections.

Why is Parrikar siding with babush?
He knows babush is a rouge. But he believes that
babush has realized that people of Goa will not take
things lying down. The man himself has not changed,
but has now come under control.

Why stake claim to form govt?
The assembly would get dissolved otherwise. Goans
don't understand what is good and bad. They only know
booze, money and fun. The wrong choice would be made
again and we would be back at square one where
everyone in the govt is corrupt. This is worse than
the leader being a non-corrupt and progressive and
capable of controlling his colleagues to some extent.

A Chief minister asks the education department to come
out with a VCD showing Goa's history.
History cannot be changed. Whatever history has been
established over the years is documented. A community
made atrocities to gather people in their fold several
hundred years back. That is history. That does not
change anything that happens in the future. The
department came out with the VCD. Now, whatever
happened 500 years back, is it Parrikar's fault?
Is it his fault that people don't realize that that
history happend 500 years back and does not change
anything?
