RESPONSE: There would have been no response if it was not of consequence.
Very predictable, LOL indeed; like a red rag to a bull!

Mario responds:

As the lone voice on Goanet for reason, truth and peace, chagrin is the not
the right word for my reaction. LOL was my reaction, and that of every American
I know:-))

I was happy to see that many liberal Obama supporters in America were
thoroughly embarrassed. Why? Because they used to take this prize seriously.

Now, can ANYONE with more than half a brain take this prize seriously or the
callous and cynical members of this politically motivated committee?

My amusement at the discomfort on the left came from the fact that the Nobel
Peace Price Committee had previously destroyed any credibility they may have
once had with awards to several people who created more conflict than peace
like Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat, Rigoberta Menchu, Kofi Annan, Mohammad El
Baradei and Al Gore while ignoring many who actually were responsible for
bringing peace in the world.

This year's cynical travesty began on February 1, 2009, the deadline for this
years award. This was TWELVE DAYS after Obama was inaugurated, and was still
trying to figure out where the toilets are located in the White House. This is
how low the Nobel Peace Prize committee has sunk.

Here is an excerpt from the REUTERS news report posted by Gabe:

Quote:
The bestowal of one of the world's top accolades on a president less than nine
months in office, WHO HAS YET TO SCORE A MAJOR FOREIGN POLICY SUCCESS, was
greeted with gasps of astonishment from journalists at the announcement in Oslo.
Unquote:

This award has brought considerable bemusement and ridicule from most honest
observers as well as embarrassment from many of Obama's supporters, perhaps
from Obama himself, adding to his embarrassment of last week when he was
roundly snubbed by the Olympics Committee.

Here are some other amused and bemused reactions:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6867711.ece

Excerpt:

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with
widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and PROBABLY DEEP
EMBARRASSMENT BY THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF.

RARELY HAS AN AWARD HAD SUCH AN OBVIOUS POLITICAL AND PARTISAN INTENT. It was
clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European
gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of
America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its
promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, THE PRIZE RISKS LOOKING PREPOSTEROUS IN ITS CLAIMS, PATRONISING IN ITS
INTENTIONS AND DEMEANING IN ITS ATTEMPT TO BUILD UP A MAN WHO HAS BARELY BEGUN
HIS PERIOD IN OFFICE, LET ALONE ACHIEVED ANY TANGIBLE OUTCOME FOR PEACE.
[end of excerpt]

Indeed. Those without rose tinted glasses hope he does not prove to be a
modern Neville Chamberlain.
