Remembering Aquino Braganca (b. 6 April 1924), who fought for freedom of the former Portuguese colonies in Africa. An online tribute http://aquinobraganca.wordpress.com/ (includes many historical references, some photographs and documents) Kiteak go baye bestench furrr zata? I only meant to say that Kunnbis still exist in Curtorim but under different code, I mean diffrent dress code. So also, Nuvem, Cansaulim cuelim, Quelosim etc Buluz, vistid also reminds me of Kamizol At school, it was a fashion. And if Kamizol is slightly visible then they used to tease each other saying 'Sunday is bigger than Monday' Others school facts - In our class, (high school) the sitting arrangment was one boy one girl per bench. - Average passing age was 20, I passed my matrik at 18 (Now av.15) - Many boys in STD V onwards seen comming clean shaven - Most high school students wearing all clothing essentials of an adult including undergarments. One sided (m), hanging garden (f) etc were some of the terms used for teasing. Other facts: When grown up girls/ women came in for Sunday Mass with saree or vistid but with 'katolo Mangam buluz' (Sleeveless blouse ?) the Pe. Vigar used to mention it in his Xermao and suggested to wear or cover the part with 'Kelli Panam' (banan leaf), I guess he had a point there. I wonder how it would feel if the same is worn now for Church or Azad Maidan Gospel Programe/prayers where one has to raise his or her both hands while saying ' Allelia Haleluia' The crowd at Azad Maidan, obviously, would be more than the church. Ok, coming back to Kunnbi or sudras, it reminds me of an old song which goes like this (Kunnbi song-duo) MUGE NODATU RAVON Konsu (Not sure about this line/words) TUGE MOGAN KADDYA DISU AMI SUDRAM BAXEN NACHOTAI TUYISU (we dance twist like sudras) ICHOI OKOL MUGELI KONSU (Konsu is shorten for Coinsao or Concessao) Quote: [Goanet] Curtorim Carvalho elisabeth_car at yahoo.com Mon Apr 6 05:06:39 PDT 2009 --- On Mon, 4/6/09, Fernandes, Marina Marina.Fernandes at pmintl.com wrote: -Kunnbis (now hiding behind sudra?s dress such as saree, kapoll, vistid, maxy etc) Not quite sure what this statement implies, were Bamons in Curtorim not wearing vistid and maxy? And why hiding behind sudra dress? Don't Kunbis have the right to dress up as they please. Was not vistid a Western dress which the Bamons were first to hide behind? Maybe we should also arrest Kunbis for wearing vistid and maxy alongwith our Russian tourists. Sheesh! What is this the dress police in Goa. Isn't it wonderful how all our caste and communal bigotry is coming out in full force these days? Is it the recession or is it just hot in Goa? Best, selma

An online tribute http://aquinobraganca.wordpress.com/ (includes many historical references, some photographs and documents) JoeGoaUk, my though below in no way casts any aspersions on you. + Any ideas as to why certain things titillated /titillate our people. I am not concerned about non-Goans here. Did these (a)musings emanate from the upper classes, who in a sense were alluding that others had not correctly, or elegantly absorbed ways they had imbibed well. Later were they absorbed by all others. What is it in such matters that titillate our people? Are we simply easily amused? Has this been going on as far as one can remember—I mean those who have lived longer, and in Goan, among Goans as opposed to those like me who did not grow up in Goa, nor lived among Goans. +++ samaani vah: aakuti: samaana hrudayanii vah: samaanam asatuu voh man: yatha vah: shusha asatii Basically: Let thy conclusions be one, lets you hearts be one (essentially unite–come together). Let one feel as one (society)--feeling the same intensity in the good or suffering (together--in good times or in bad). Bal Gangadhar Tilak presumably concluded his book Geeta Rahasya with this shloka from the Rigveda. [Goanet] Curtorim Citizens against Sonsodo Garbage
Curtorim Citizens against Sonsodo Garbage I have many a times written on this topic. being closely associated with Curtorim constituency and knowing the hardships of the people out there i feel it is only time these people come out against the hardships that are caused to them by the sonsodo garbage dump. in his entire tenure as representative of curtorim Sardinha's nose could never smell the stench as his montri-car fitted with the red light was air-conditioned all the time. sardinha also never wanted to antagonise the margao mla as it was partialy the fault of the margao legislator for taking measures to clean up the dump. now alexio lourenco has issued an ultamitum to the government to clean up its act on sonsodo..well done alexio...thats the way to go... The citizens of curtorim should agitate outside the Margo municipal council and also hold Sardinha responsible for not doing anything on the ill effects of the sonsodo dump. i can imagine babush leading an agitation from taleigao, alexio lourenco leading an agitation from curtorim, plus the dozen of other anti-sez agitations and other issues plaguing the state, its time defacting angel digamber kamat goes back to the BJP...if they ever want him back... the hole ridden, rat infested ship of digamber kamat is sinking...and i hear he is in gujarat campaigning for the Congress...
