You know the main topic of conversation at the Goan
convention will be the buzz of, Who is here ... who
could not come who would not come ...?who was
about to come.:=))

Mario responds:

Gilbert,

At the risk of sounding humorless just because you
have tried to soften your unsubstantiated
community-wide observation with a smiley face, how
exactly do you know what the buzz will be at the Goan
Convention, of all the conversations that will surely
take place?

BTW, have you detected ANY compromise in ANYTHING that
Selma, poor baby, writes???:-))

See, I can use smiley faces too:-))

[Goanet] Compromised position on Goanet

2008-07-20 Thread Carvalho

I have this joke with myself that I want all the Goans from Goa to the Gulf, to
UK to US, gunning for me. After that I will hope my husband gets an assignment
in Sweden, where I will have only Alfred Tavares to write about :-)

But jokes aside, lately I've been feeling compromised on Goanet. When one has
been on this site for a couple of years, one develops friendships or at least
unofficial allies. People who've sided with you in the past, supported your
point of view or generally been kind and affable. It becomes very hard to voice
arguments against these people and still maintain friendship. (Perhaps Roland
and Frederick are the only two I can think of, where I've succeeded and even
there I wouldn't want to push the envelope).

Then there are abusive posters who you simply want to keep away from or have
been warned to keep away from. There are last wordists, the I'll
take-everything-personally, the I'm going-to-be-contrary for the sake of it,
the I'll drag-past-history-or-personal-insults into the mix. Which pretty soon
covers the whole of Goanet including me. You decide not to respond to these
posts, including my own :-) Of late there seems to be more than the usual
cantankerous moods.

Is it really worth posting in a compromised state?

RESPONSE: In short, No! Next question please :-)); Am off to the Tivim
Feast, Cip has informed me that he will be attending, so today we
should have a beer together.

Life is too short, to worry endlessly, what others might think of
you...get on with it and as the English might say 'sod off'

Definition of 'cantankerous':  unwilling to cooperate.
How can Goanetters who read half truths, with not much thought put into the
article written, just sit tight and say nothing?
If Indians find it difficult to live within their own community, how the hell
does one expect to live on their own within a predominately white community?
I have tried and failed, they said I was big headed.
Now that the UK Police have been shamed by the 'Lawrence Inquiry' that they are
Institutionally Racist and still are to a degree, the mood of the Indians have
mellowed.
Reason? The whites are not getting 'the blind support' from the police as
before.
But the facts have to be put forward (like it or not).

[Goanet] Compromised position on Goanet

This is in response to Message No: 1, dated: Sun, 20 Jul 2008 by ONLY lady
in Goanet.

She writes: .jokes aside, lately I've been feeling compromised on Goanet.

My response: Why one should think this way? FACT is People get FED UP eating
and dining in / at ONLY one restaurant or hotel..today everyone on this
earth wants to enjoy different splendid taste and favorer.as was / is
spelt out by even Roland and Frederick! What say? May be the restaurant /
Hotel owner relied on their promise .made otherwise.not knowing THEY
ARE TO SMART!!

Having said all this, I request ONLY lady to keep KEYING as long as her
destination doesn't turn up to be realistic...DONT YOU WORRY about Goans in
Goajust keep worrying about who willlift and shift to Switzerland.
Goans are there to take care of what is left in / of Goa!

Till than Let's enjoy SWITZER.LAND. What say??

Best regards,

Selma, thanks for your usual insightful comments.  It is the weekend and
the weather in Upstate NY is raining. So our plans to go the the beach with the
grand-children, who are spending their summer vacation with us, had to be
scrapped. I had some time to read a few more post and respond to you.

Your correct diagnosis of many current Goanetters is painful, even though some
of the worst offenders have not posted in a long time.  It breaks ones heart to
see some smart Goans just do not get it - It is nice to be important. But is
more important to be nice.  I have a difficult time to understand why so many
smart Goanetters cannot be original; instead of electing to parasite on other
peoples' posts.  And of course Goans have lost the word humor from their
vocabulary.

It is the Graduation Season where high school graduates are feted by their
parents with lavish parties for graduating from High School.

At yesterday's graduation party, I met a friend, originally from Calcutta, who
had just returned from a Bengali Reunion in Toronto.  He told me the 7,000
gathering was harmonious and enjoyable.  There were lot of sessions on
Literature and Poetry, (Bengalis - land of Tagore - are good at this), and
joint-business sessions. He tell me there was no disunity related to the party
politics in Bengal, no discussion on history etc etc. The only minor discomfort
according to him was a 'chip on the shoulder' of Canadian Bengalis towards the
American Bengalis.

You know the main topic of conversation at the Goan convention will be the buzz
of, Who is here ... who could not come who would not come ... who was
about to come.:=))

I hope I can get your input into my recent post regarding Crime and
punishment  (title change and next to be posted).
Regards, GL
