[Goanet] CONDOLENCES: Michael Von Tangen Page, Shirley Gonsalves and fly

[Frederick Noronha]

CONDOLENCES on the death of Kenneth Robert Page (17 May, 1937 ~ 2 January,
2023), father of Michael Von Tangen Page and father-in-law of Shirley
Gonsalves, both long-time Goanetters. Michael and Shirley are historians,
who have been doing interesting work on Goa, including through their online
GHHCG (Goa History Heritage Culture Group) discussion network.  Kenneth
Page passed away peacefully last week, and his funeral was on Tuesday, Jan
10, 2023 at Melbourne, Australia. Michael and Shirley have lived in
Scotland and Tivim.

statistician, based in Canada (from
Moira), on the passing of his wife
Cynthia.

John wrote: "This is to share with you
the news of the passing away of my dear
wife Cynthia.  We had just commemorated
the 50th anniversary of the Uganda
Expulsion on Oct 23rd with a Mass and
social at the Goan Community Centre.  And
then, three days later dear Cynthia left
for heaven suddenly

"We have received 100 or so guests so
far.  I see Cynthia in the friends and so
it has been good to receive them.  We
expect to have the visitation on Nov 9
and funeral and celebration of life on
the tenth.  We are still fixing the
details."

Again, our condolences to John, his son
Paul and daughter Rachel.

Death is sad especially when it strikes close to a child at the Prime of
his life, with plans to start his own family by the year  end.  Death
is sad. Even Christ wept when Lazarus died.  He performed a  Miracle and
Lazarus awoke. That life Lazarus came to end years later.  

  Christ. as a human died for us so that we could live in peace forever.
So  while we offer our condolences to  Nelson  and his family and indeed
the villager of  Chinchinim  We can only pray and say Rest In Peace

On the death of Nelson's son Francis, following a road accident. Been a bit
out of the loop, but first read the young lad's friends appealing for AB+
blood. An operation had been scheduled.

Francis was at ZACL (from what one reads) and had met with an accident a
short while earlier. Last night (pre-dawn Saturday), Nelson's post came
through on Facebook, announcing the death of his son. Other members of the
family mentioned that the young man was due to get married in December!

This is really sad and really upsetting. Nelson is one of the nicest, most
helpful and committed to his village (Chinchinim... but not only that)
persons whom one has come across.

One of the students I know through another network was praising him for
helping her with a scholarship -- without any prompting -- when she needed
it the most. We met accidentally at some event in Panjim quite some time
back, and I invited him to post to Goanet. He has been regularly doing so.

The death of a child is tragic, more so when it befalls someone who you
feel definitely deserves better... But then, life often doesn't have logic

Bernadette De Sa  known as Aunty Benny, died on 4 September 2013 in
England. My condolences to the family members many of whom are from Moira.

I got the information from the following letter from her niece Linette Goes
nee D'Souza which I will take the liberty to reproduce below.

My dad's sister Bernadette De Sa died on 4th Sept here in UK. Her house is
in Calizor as she was married to late Joseph De Sa. They used to call their
house Padreger. My Mum's mother Maria Angelica De Sa  was the daughter from
this same house where my Dad's sister Aunty Benny  got married, hence the
double relationship with Mervyn Maciel as he is the nephew of that De Sa
house.

In July this year my Dad's youngest brother's wife died in Portugal and got
cremated there Aunty Luiza. Aunty Benny was in Goa staying at Renat's house
the year my mum died as I had flown back with her and my youngest daughter
Chloe who was 3 months at that time.

Aunty Bennie's photo came on goanvoiceuk this week on Sept 10th.

GOA SU-RAJ PARTY  condoles the loss of precious lives of Goans and other 
passengers and sympathizes with the near and dear ones of those killed and 
seriously injured in the ill fated inter-state bus plying between Goa and 
Mumbai. Hopefully, the Goa Government will learn from this serious self 
inflicted accident and put in enough controls to see that the route 
operators conform to the safety regulations in place to safe-guard the lives 
of innocent people travelling in such buses. The controls that are often 
overlooked are the 'sobriety' of the drivers and their state of 'fatigue'. 
In a bid to meet deadlines, the crew of such buses are often over-worked by 
the operators, resulting in the vehicles going off the road  when the mind's 
eye of the fatigued  or drunk person at the wheel mentally goes to sleep for 
a mili-second even with eyes wide open. It is a crime to have lost so many 
lives when entrusted in the care of the man at the wheel. It is important 
that both Goa and Maharashtra Governments have in place surprised checks on 
the state of alertness of the drivers of such interstate buses, especially 
between 00.00 and 04:00 hours  and those drivers found wanting be put behind 
bars and their driving licences suspended. Until and unless such drastic 
deterrents are are put in place, precious innocent lives will be lost. May 
the good souls of the departed RIP.

Mass on Sunday, May 23rd and will offer a special Mass in their memory at the

Helpline numbers for Air India flight IX-812

Mumbai, May 22 (IANSS) Air India has set up the following helpline numbers
for queries on its IX-812 Flight that crashed Saturday morning killing at
least 158 people.

To assist us in continuing to help those most affected by this accident, we
request that relatives and close friends only contact our following
telephone numbers so that communication lines are open to those who need it
the most, the airline said in a statement.

Air India is extending all its support to the emergency services and other
agencies that are associated with this emergency. A team has been rushed to
