The cross is already placed at the foot of the bund. It must have slid down
some time earlier. It has already lost its original prominent place. The
caving in has almost reached in the vicinity of the Kadamba's road atop the
hill. Locals feel that it is only time that this road too will disappear
altogether.

There is an old cross across the bandh not high up on the hill in line
with

the old Kadamba road.
Its looks like it will slide down any day now.

Its sad that all I can think of is assasinations at the moment. Sad
considering that we are supposedly civilized.

Rajan,
Many thanks.

Needless to say that your slide documentary at Mandovi Hotel was
exceptional. I hv told your dear father and your dear wife that you are a
real Goan Patriot and that some day Goa will repay you for your
boundary-less concern for her well-being.

Having said that, here is the gory details of the Batim hill murder for the
info of goanetters:-

I get a call on Saturday from Fr. Bismarque of Santacruz about massive and
gory hill cutting at Batim.
I call Add. Collector Naik and he sends the Mamlatdar and the Batim Cops to
investigate.
Reply was that the hill cutting has the requisite permission.

Sunday: Fr. Bismarque took the Herald reporter and covered the scene. Called
me to tell me that hill cutting is going unabated. That the mud is being
used to fill the new Agacaim by-pass and the play-ground.

Monday (today) I and Fr. Bismarque saw the collector Mr. Mihir Vardhan at
Panjim, alerted him about this hill cutting seemingly has the permission,
that we are going to check this out from the TCP.
Met Morad Ahmed (CTP) who informed us that indeed permission 17A is given
for this operation. That 3 months or so ago the Govt. in its meeting (CM,
Local MLA, CS, Geology Dept. Pwd, GCZMA etc) has cleared this hill cutting.
Thereafter Fr. Bismarque and self visited the site and took those
devastating photographs. Also had a word with a local Mr. Agnelo who asked
us as to how we are going to stop this murder when the govt itself is doing
it. And I believe he has a point. Averthan, is very right when he says
This Govt has lost its right to govern' in his GOVERNMENT SPONSORED
GAMBLING

Tuesday (tmrw) I shall make out the application for the relevant info of
this devastating decision under the RTI.
I am sure this material when obtained will warrant the filing of the Writ
Petition Against the State in the Hon. HC and seek to stop all hill
cuttings in the futurein the State of Goa.

BTW I have lost the entire working day on this and I do hope that the HC
will subsequently compensate me for this loss like it has done w.r.t. my
last Writ Petition against hotel 'La Calypso', 'Farenheit' and 'Estrela do
Mar' for violating CRZ norms.

BTW2: Farenheit has carried out the demolition as required. La Calypso and
Estrela do Mar are yet to initiate the exercise even after 9
months of the Order of the HC when they were given just three months. I
think my going back to the HC with Contempt Petition is inevitable. In that
case it will be my 8th. Writ Petition in as many as 11 years. I guess that
should get me into the the Guiness Book of World Records :-).
