Any people with powers of observation around? I would suggest asking the locals if the size of coconuts has decreased dramatically. At least, that has been my observation when I was in Goa last June. When questioned, an agriculturalist informed me of a pest issue (I know some people in the recent past blamed the microwave radiation from mobile-phone towers, but this could be a coincidence). So pest problems must be true. Probably passed around by rats (kol-undir?), who tend to occupy / visit coconut trees for food and nesting.
