H Britton funeral - A report and avideo clip Very well organized funeral of a Tiatr celebrity. I would say, better than M Boyer. Brass band played almost all H Britton’s populars at home, during the procession and at the church. Funeral procession from the residence to the Church for about half a Kilometer. This is the way it should be. Most Funerals are now using short cut. i.e. The Hearse van takes the body/corpse from the residence to the Church directly. No matter how far the Church is, there should be a funeral procession for at least 300-500 meters. It looks nice. After all, it’s the last journey and we should walk along. As said, there were about 50 Tiatrists. It was very nice of them too. Fr. Mario Pereira was the only celebrant Tiatrist Jessie Dias did the first reading. Choir consists of H Britton nieces and Britona locals. H Britton’s daughter, Son and the grand son said a few words about their father/grand father and thanked to all. Tiatrists carried the coffin from the Church to the Cemetery (Pics were sent earlier). Agnelo Dias (Trumpeter) did his solo funeral special by the grave side. Funeral Brass band was good too (Cota?) Some people, including media persons seen arriving late. Minster and Local MLA Dayanand Nravekar and Ex. CM Willy also seen. Besides, Ann Institute Chairman, Mr. Nagvenkar also seen. He also issued two condolence ads one each in NT and H. He did to M Boyer too. H Britton Besides the popular songs like Bandra Festa, Bus Conductor, Marialina, Beauty Queen of Goa etc etc I also remember him as a ‘Man in colourful sarees’ I could still picturise his role as beautiful looking woman with equally colorful lady's umbrella swirling over his houlder. At Margao Rajendra Prasad Stadium where all tiatr were staged at night around 10.30pm, seeing the lady is called back again and again, I asked my mother ‘Konn ghe maim ti bhail(u)?’ My Mother replied ‘ Ti bhail nu baba, to dadulo, H Biritton’ Last time I saw him dressed like a woman in October 2007 at Kala Academy Tiatr Competition. see pic/video About 3 years ago, when H Britton was acting in ‘Ekuch Rosto’ remake by Anil Kumar, I had gone there at KA (during interval) to hand over some A4 size stage group pics which I had taken during the previous show. At this time, I tried inviting H Britton and two others to join us for dinner after the show which was to end around 10pm. (I was then residing near Campal). They said ‘will try’ one of them asked my cell number and I quickly dictated him and within seconds he went on stage to sing his solo. When they say ‘They will try’ and also cell number was not given in writing, I was pretty sure they are not coming ( 99.9% sure). To my surprise, just after 10pm I got a call only to say they are coming.. I quickly ordered 2 chiken tandoori and other stuff, ordered some chilled sodas and beer, we hand plenty of other drinking stuff but not chilled as we unplugged our fridge as we were to leave for UK next morning at 8am. As we were drinking, H Britton said ‘Cheddea, tonddam galpa kiteim asa zalear hadd’ (..get some snacks if you have please), we had nothing in the house. Soon the door bell rings. I said thank God! It was the delivery boy After the dinner, they left at around midnight. As said yesterday, one of the 3 tiatrists spotted me yesterday on the main road (We were 4), he stopped and asked ‘Excuse me, are you not the same with whom we (with H Britton) had dinner some years ago?’ Although I knew him, I reluctantly said ‘yes’ and we talked about H Britton..he said he is not going to make it again on stage.. and the time was 4.30pm. Later on, we found out H Britton died same day at 4pm. People come and people go, Leaving behind their good memories Good bye H Britton. H Britton (Bandra Festak, Marialina fame) died today It was only today at 4.30pm one tiatrist on his motorbike spotted me after 3 years There we spoke about H Britton heath and that we planned to visit him soon and found out later on, that he died today at 4pm. H Britton was only LIVE on stage pretending as if he is singing live. thank God, there were not much of Tiatr audience as 95% were others incliding non-Goans. That was not very nice to do by such a senior actor. At once stage, a wrong track was played instead of his announced song 'Marilina', and it continued for 30 seconds and thats where people caught him...where as I found out immediately when he started singing Bandra Festak as he sang one new song himself before on pre-recorded music. Many others too gives their shows on a pre-recorded music CD but singing LIVE. BRITON Who amongst Goans in particular and Konkani speaking people in general will not know Tiatrists H. Briton? He is known to everybody and everywhere. His real name is Herman from Britona in Bardez though originally he is from Agacaim and since last 4 decades he is settled down in Britona. A father of a son and a daughter both married and having their own children, H. Briton and his wife Rosa Maria are proud grand parents. Currently H. Briton is in Kuwait visiting his children and taking an advantage of his stay in Kuwait for a short period, I asked him my willingness to pen down some lines on his tiatrist life. Having agreed, we met at my place in Kuwait city. He was very pleased to give this interview to me for Goanet. A Goa State awardee 8 years ago, H. Briton during the last three and half decades on Konkani stage delighted his supporters and tiatro audience very much. His comedy songs delighted the audience and those songs he rendered as woman wearing saree with perfectness of a woman were the thrillers during those days. He was one of the genuine crowd pullers in late seventies, eighties and in nineties. One of his early songs he rendered as a female wearing a beautiful saree and with beautiful style, was Air Hostess which I heard in Mapusa and it still rings my ears.
