Re: [Goanet] Happy Birthday Frederick!
Hi Roland, I've been called Uncle for the last 35 or so years, which is fine, no complaints. Actually, I don't quite believe in birthday-ism. My last birthday celebrated was at 14, when I was already having doubts the logic of it all. If you're alive you obviously were born (on someday or the other, which is more related to the calendar you follow, rather than you!). And if you were not born, then the birthday question would not have arisen. So... As for the date, I'm confused myself. Some wished me on the 18th, some today. Google says my birthday is 23rd Dec. Suggested that they try wishing every three days, and one might actually turn up right! Or, alternatively, we can forget this for what it is: just an accident of birth :-) FN ᐧ On Sun, 19 Dec 2021 at 22:58, Roland Francis wrote: > OK so there is a dispute about your birthday either being on the 23, 26 or > 27 without any clarification from you. > > A google search says you will soon be 58 on that day so until then you may > not be called Uncle. > > Here’s wishing you will not be called Aunty either! > > Roland. > Toronto. > > > > On Dec 19, 2021, at 1:56 AM, Frederick Noronha < > fredericknoron...@gmail.com> wrote: > > > > Thanks for that, Roland, but it really wasn't my birthday. OK so there is a dispute about your birthday either being on the 23, 26 or 27 without any clarification from you. A google search says you will soon be 58 on that day so until then you may not be called Uncle. Here’s wishing you will not be called Aunty either! Roland. Are you officially a Senior today according to Indian age markers? The good news: you will be called Uncle even by people older than you. The bad news: you will notice pretty women less and less and be able to follow up even less. Roland. Toronto.

[Goanet] Happy Birthday Frederick
Last week, while accompanied by my seven year old son Desmond, I bumped into Frederick in Panjim. As always happens we got into an animated conversation. Later Desmond asked me what the bearded man's name was. I told him that it was 'Fred'. Desmond seemed disturbed. I asked him what the matter was. He replied, That was a very intelligent man. He can't be a Fred!. For Desmond 'Fred' is a name asssociated with some lesser being and not someone like our Frederick Noronha. I agree. Despite my many net-spats with Frederick we are good friends in real life. He has been an encourging force in my efforts as a writer, as a publisher, and many related fields, for which I will always be grateful. And of course it is always a pleasure to meet up and talk to Frederick because of all the perspectives, knowledge, insights and energies he brings to the table. I think all of us in Goan cyber-space owe Frederick a great deal for all he puts into building up what he calls 'social capital'. May he have many more birthdays. Cheers! Cecil P.S. It's nearly 3 pm here in Goa and Frederick has not yet come online. Anyone know why? Maybe he's just too embarassed? =

Even today, inspite of the many demands on his time, Fred took the time to help me with a query. not only that, he got me permission from Rajan Parrikar to publish a picture of the Moira Church all lit up on Christmas Day. Apart from that he has gone out of his way to provide me with educational software for use in schools. Thanks Fred, and like Harun-al-Rashid says, May your tribe increase.
