Hello Martin

But I wish you well in your search. I think you ought to begin by
contacting Ignatius Loyala School who may have archive records, could
possibly be of help to you. Go to search engine and put in Ignatius Loyola
School, GOA INDIA. Good luck with this, after all its been over 400 years
since Ignatius Loyala, founder of the Jesuits came to India and since 1545
there has been a school there, so I guess records must exist.

Hello Martin

Sorry I cant be of any help, we left in 1961 but never returned, though I
have wished many many times for the opportunity to return to Goa.
Unfortunately we had no money to do so. Both parents have now passed away
I am still UK, married with two daughters, we are, planning to go to live in
Mauritius in 5 years, on my retirement, with my wife children. All
working self-employed in our own business, for the tourists.

But I wish you well in your search. I think you ought to begin by

We left the UK when I was barely a year old. We arrived in Goa where
extended family welcomed us as though we were parasites on a pigs bottom. I
had a fantastic childhood, the first 6 years in Goa were the most magical
for me, my brother was born in Goa 3 years after we arrived he enjoyed his
childhood there also.

I was just seven years old in 1957 when my (Portuguese) father decided he
would place me in Ignatius Loyola school in Goa. I was finally released
when Goa sought independence in 1961, they had me for just four years but
still got brainwashed.

As for education, I remember very little of what was taught to me, but can
vividly remember the compulsory praying to various statues confessing
sins... instead. I walk around feeling guilty for being on this planet.

That is not education.

I wish you well in your search for the High School Goa, end of 19th century,
but I bet Ignatius Loyola will be there somewhere..

Were there many schools that had high standards? Or just one? Does that
school/those schools still exist, and if it does exist would they still have
records of those days?

Dear Martin,

To the best of my knowledge there was just one choice, Escola de Liceu
in Panjim, in 1890 or so. St.Joseph's High School in Arpora, Sacred
Heart HS in Parra, Desai HS Mapusa and others were later day
additions.

The Lyceum/Liceu is now known as the Tristao Braganca e Cunha Higher
Secondary School and is located near the Parade Ground at
Campal-Panaji. If one can locate records of twenty years at the
school, one is lucky. I do not know if old records are there in the
Dept of Archives.

Viva Goa.

Hi there,

just a simple question. Which school would parents have sent their children to
in Goa, to make sure they would get decent education and later on go to

Were there many schools that had high standards? Or just one? Does that
