A small correction to the glowing tribute Vivian has
paid me.
I was NOT awarded the M.B.E. My invitation to Buckingham Palace was
purely on behalf of the Overseas Service Pensioners' Association and in
recognition of my contribution - i.e. my two books, several articles
which area available on the British Empire site etc., and the part I
played in that Association which is soon to be wound up.

The luncheon at which Prince Charles was our Guest of Honour was
similarly a Farewell Luncheon of our Association. None of us are
*Kijanas* any more!

Vivian - very kind of you, but your comments leave me humbled.
Life has to go on regardless - rough or smooth, Hard or Soft Brexit!!
Thanks and warm regards.

[Goanet] Mervyn Maciel's story of his move from Kenya to the UK

2017-09-25 Thread Vivian A. DSouza
I enjoyed reading Mervyn's story about his move from Kenya to the UK in 1966.I
am sure every one of those who had to leave East Africa (Kenya, Uganda &
Tanzania) have similar stories.  Despite his family and his traumatic
departure from the land of their birth, where they identified themselves as
Kenyans, Mervyn bears no ill-will towards those who caused him to leave with
his young family. With overtones of "susegadness",  Mervyn bounced back, and
has lived happilly ever after. His service to the Crown, was recently
recognized with the award ofMBE (Member of the British Empire) which was well
deserved. Mervyn, I wish you and your family many many more happy years in fair
England.
