GL responds:
I have never read a more confused article. Goa's governmental institution has
its (local) responsibilities for the IFFI festival. According to the report,
Goa's resources and responsibilities to fulfill this limited and local event
planning and production are stretched to the limit. Yet, the author (and likely
the same Goa authorities) are making the case to take-over even more of the
IFFI responsibilities.
The responsibility of Delhi has been to coordinate the national and
international aspects of IFFI. Given the fact that Goa has no film industry,
has the Goan authorities have any inkling or links to these national and
international films organizations?
I remember the first time IFFI was held in Goa. There was a hue and cry by
many on Goanet for the extravagant spending by the state govt. and the
corruption of putting on the event.
My suggestion, "Do not bite more than what one can chew." That is a
'no-brainer.'
Do a good job of what needs to be done locally. Goa's and Goans' reputation
(nationally and internationally) is at stake. I am so glad that Goa has been
chosen the permanent home of IFFI. Please do not screw it up. And ALL Goans
should work to make it a huge success.
PS: None of the nonsense of using the event to display the state's "dirty
laundry"
