We knew there was a changed reality occurring in the world after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The US has indicated after long last that it is no longer donning the mantle of the World’s Policeman. There was a To and Fro in the US about Nancy Pelosi making the trip to Taiwan. Feisty though she is and unsurprisingly though she received the backing of Republican hawks, it was a wait and see situation i.e. waiting to see whether she would go ahead or be shut down. Either action would have implications for US policy. Letting her go ahead would mean facing up to China. Pulling the rug on her would mean the US takes China and its military power seriously and is not willing to confront it. This is what happens when countries have nuclear weapons. Their deterrence works. It’s only a matter of time before Pakistan, India and whoever else possesses such weapons, hold peace and sanity (and the US) at bay.
