Blaming the politician-bureaucrat-outsider builder nexus for the wholesale of Goan land to outsiders, Dr Colaco on Saturday gave a clarion call to the people Goa to save their land, saying Goans will be reduced to a non-entity in their motherland in the future. Dr Colaco made the appeal at an exhibition held near the Communidade building here to protest against the Goa Property show organised by Times Business Group in Delhi. He said the Goa government should study the Land Protection Acts of the States of Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh before before bringing a similar ban on sale of land to outsiders. Coming down heavily on the politician-bureacrat-builder nexus for the sale of Goan land, Dr Colaco said it's high time the people of Goa do not elect the politicians who are out to destroy and sell Goa for a price. Asked about his comments on the Goa Property show in Delhi, Dr Colaco said this is a grim reminder that our land is being sole without the knowledge of locals. This is not the first time, nor the last time this is happening. The Regional Plan is haunting us every now and then in one form or the other. First came the RP 2011, followed by SEZ and now an Internet site advertising and offering people to buy huge tracts of land. This will change Goa's geography, demography and topography and everything that is Goan, he asserted. Saying that ordinary Goans today find it difficult to convert a small piece of land for housing, Dr Colaco said that large tracts of land have been converted by the politicians in violation of agricultural rules and CRZ rules. Asked whether only the politicians are to be blamed for the sale of Goa, Dr Colaco said each and every individual is responsible for the selling their precious land, but the politicians-bureacrat-builder nexus is the worst, because politicians have sold the land with the sweep of a brush. Asked what is his message to the people on the sale of land, Dr Colaco said ideally, the people should not elect the politicians who do not love Goa.

How can separatism be combined with the Indian nationalism of the BJP? If there is an agenda here it is a rather confused one, devoid of any deeper conviction or practical significance.
