[Goanet] What does Joao want to say?
In the Age of Corona Virus all is uncertain I will set my clock for six tomorrow if the alarm does go off I will know my time has not come What does Joao want to say?
[Goanet] Venantius Fortunatus--Sing, my tongue the glorious
What a week it has been! My Konkani lexicon is immensely enriched. Epithets hurled and elevated from the bawdy bar rooms and into our to drawing rooms. Goaded and provoked there was that the higher path to end the fray denying that one chance, one sliver of self aggrandising glory. May Venantius Fortunatus guide us as we praise heaven in a Matin during Passiontide --"Sing,my tongue, the glorious battle: Sing the ending of the fray". Abhar, Voznadik Vojem
[Goanet] THE LOCK-DOWN WILL HAVE TO BE FURTHER EXTENDED
With the extended lock-down due to end on 3rd May, in the prevailing dicey circumstances the government may have no option but to extend it further. We have seen how in our very populous nation the law enforcement authorities have over the last few weeks had a very arduous task enforcing the lock-down. So if it is prematurely withdrawn, hell may be let loose in these precarious times. With new COVID-19 cases surfacing by almost a thousand a day, it is a matter of great concern while the continued deaths across the nation is also worrisome. To take no risks in the current fluid scene, the lock-down would have to be possibly extended by another four weeks and then reviewed. We need to tread cautiously and thoughtfully in dealing with this gruesome pandemic which has brought the whole world on its knees. The government has to however ensure that the grocery stores are kept wide open so that everyone can get all the required essential commodities. Needless to say the authorities ensure that substandard or adulterated food stuff is not sold while also making sure that the prices are not inflated. The government is duty bound to meticulously see that no one remains hungry. The country needs to be focused on battling the dreaded virus with all the possible resources at hand. For now politics or any politicking should take the back seat while we all stand as one great nation with Unity in Diversity as our strength. Re: [Goanet] Lessons The Eden in UK & Lessons FOR A Goa
The Garden of Eden May I respectfully submit about the Garden of Eden as mentioned in the Bible. And it was a cherished dream. That's where I always wanted to be at the confluence of these two great mighty rivers. The rivers of (Babylon) Tigris and Euphrates. These two mighty rivers meet at Shatt al Arab near Basra in Iraq. What a sight to behold. Still in existence and protected, where these two rivers meet is the Tree of Knowledge. Speaking about lessons-- for many centuries Iraq, the crucible of civilization, ensured all christian holy places were maintained and cared for. (Can we say that same for India as our World Heritage sites in Old Goa are in a state of disrepair). KIng Nebuchadnezzar"s Hanging Gardens and Tower of Babylon can wait for another day. [Goanet] Aaji The Maid
A 12 minute poignant documentary from Bombay’s Xavier Institute of Communications sent to me by Roy Pacheco. It captures the moments when a decision is taken by the householder to replace the part time domestic worker as she is too old to continue work. Here is some context to that reality. In Bombay there is a practice from my time in the city that continues till today. In the average middle class urban home, living space is generally less than 750 sq feet in a high rise building. Even so, the lady of the house does not do the hard work involved in the upkeep of the apartment or flat, either because she is gainfully employed or because there is no space for the modern gadgets that make for independent living, or that she is too lazy and rich to bother. It’s just the Bombay system and few think there’s anything wrong with it. So the system prevailing involves a poor female domestic worker living in some slums or hutments nearby coming to do the daytime chores. Laundry (by hand), floor swabbing on bended knees, grinding the spices or masala and cooking the day’s food. If there are infants or toddlers, she bathes them too. She does this type of work in at least 3 to 4 households daily. Working for one family does not cut it for her minimum income. The woman usually comes from a very poor home where her husband is usually an alcoholic and either doesn’t work or spends his income on his moonshine and a mistress. If the domestic doesn’t come at the usual time at each household because of an overrun at the previous place of work, she gets a mouthful of invective if the employer is a demanding woman. She is entitled to no sick or other leave, no vacation pay, no retirement contribution or anything else besides the occasional trivial gifts during feast days or food leftovers that serve as tips. I am told there is a lot of realization during these Covid times among employers of the value of these women now that they cannot work and have taken off to their villages for the duration. Hope this leads to better treatment on their return. https://youtu.be/dAHyXkMr3eU Roland. Toronto.
[Goanet] COVERT - 19
Nature has a time-proven, timelyantidote to whatever comes naturally inflicted or contracted. TheCOVID-19 is a bio-war virus (aka a COVERT WWIII tattoo) intended totattoo-vaccine the human race to a pandemic surveillance. Once thevirus is manually reversed, the vaccinated tattoo remains a patented, lifelong virus, and by bureaucratic consensus and decree, authoritatively enforced upon every new born. Unlike the infamous WWII tattoo, thisone will come sanctioned and sanctified by WHO, UN and otherbureaucratic lobbies and entities. So, welcome finally to therealization of the legitimate New World Order, where your every moveis under 24/7 surveillance, including your most sacred hour ofablution. On the other hand, such surveillancehas its usefulness. For instance if you were to fake your death, theinsurance carrier is likely to exactly know where to find you, either 6 feet above sea level in a cruise ship or in some undergroundmorgue, where your corpse is about to be scheduled for processing into dog food! [Goanet] Alfred Rose and his Kantaram
In below article Valmiki says that Alfred Rose penned hundreds of songs he sang a few hundred with his familybut he says MOST songs were sung by others. I tend to disagree with Valmiki on this, as per my view and the collection that I have very few of Alfis songs (maybe 50)were sung by others, and he also sang not more than 50 songs composed by others. If Valmiki is still on goanet, I would like to ask him, who were the other artistes who sang Alfis songs. Edward Verdes https://goanet-news.goanet.narkive.com/VKd1CO0O/goanet-reader-goan-music-a-long-twisted-and-often-colourful-road-across-time-valmiki-faleiro-herald Goanet Reader -- Goan music: a long, twisted, and often colourful road across time (Valmiki Faleiro, Herald) Alfred Rose must be the most prolific of Konknni 'cantarists' (singers). He wrote and sang so many songs that he lost count of them. No chronicler can fix the number of 'cantaram' he penned. He set most of them to music himself, sang a few hundred, solo or in duet with wife Rita, or others. Most, however, were sung by other artistes. Alfred did a wide variety of songs, from serious to satirical, melodic to mournful. Like Alexinho de Candolim before him, many of his songs carried a strong social message, even if at times he sounded like a Sunday 'sermao.' Some despised the nasal in his otherwise versatile soprano voice. And, even though original most of the time, Alfred sometimes borrowed popular Western tunes. But, as one of his greatest fans and my friend Filipe Dias of Madel-Margao says, "Alfred's music was customer-oriented. When fans requested him to set songs to particular Western tunes, Alfred obliged."

[Goanet] Bible verse for the Day
Joshua 1:8-9 8 Do not let this book of the law depart from your lips. Recite it by day and by night, that you may carefully observe all that is written in it; then you will attain your goal; then you will succeed. 9 I command you: be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go.
