Demise of  Fr Freddy J da Costa and Mr Felicio Cardozo

Since Mr Brazinho Soares Kalapurkar first broke the sad news of the deaths
of Fr Freddy J da Costa and Mr Felicio Cardozo, early this morning, just a
bit of news has trickled in. According to Fr Saluzinho, who is in charge of
the Siridao Church in the absence of Fr Freddy, the bodies of Fr Freddy and
Felicio are in the process of being handed over to the next of kin of the
deceased, at the Government Nursing Home at Haveri, within the city limits
of Hubli.

Around 1.00 am, the Tata Indica vehicle, in which they were traveling, was
involved in a head on collision with a truck. The accident must have been a
ghastly scene, because they died on the spot. Frank, the driver of the car
who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to another hospital, about 75 km
away, where he breathed his last at 2.30 am.

A group of young men from Goa who were traveling to Vailankani, spotted the
car with the Goa registration and on making enquiries found their way to the
Government Nursing Home in Haveri. They were apparently the first Goans to
set their eyes on the bodies of Fr Freddy and Felicio. The young men
contacted Siridao, from where Joao Santana and Rosario left for Hubli at
around 5 am.

We shall keep you informed as and when we receive any details of the tragic
incident. Meanwhile, in Goa the news spread like wild fire, shocking people
in virtually every walk of life. Enquiries too are pouring in from worried
Goans, particularly in the Gulf.
