[google-appengine] Re: The newly created VM has been unable to log in

2020-01-06 Thread 'David Do' via Google App Engine

You can find troubleshooting documentation

about SSHing into a Compute Engine instance [1]. In the future, please make
sure that your screenshots are in English or provide a description that is
in English so that other people may be able to help your more easily.
Additionally, make sure that your future Compute Engine issues are posted
in gce-discussion instead, as this is a Google App Engine group.

[google-appengine] Allow app engine access only from a specific website?

2020-01-06 Thread Mapperkids
Hi,

We want to set up our app engine to only allow access from specific public
domain like www.whatever.com ( it is an external public available website),
how can I do that which is not by IP range level so I can't do it using the
app engine firewall setting.

Our app is written in Python and the app engine services are in both
standard / flex environment.

The flow will be like someone clicking a link on the www.whatever.com and
it will redirect to our app front end to show a page, but we would like to
make sure the request is come from www.whatever.com otherwise, should give
them like 500 server error or something.

Any ideas how can I do that?

Thanks in advance.
John

Hi,

Mapping to custom domain names might take some time 2- 4 hours, also I see
an already connected to project. Is this the current project
being used?

Cheers,

[google-appengine] Re: N00b - CPU Quota Error Message

2020-01-06 Thread 'George (Cloud Platform Support)' via Google App Engine
It looks as if you have reached a CPU quota, meaning the total number of
virtual CPUs across all of your VM instances in a region. To check the
available quota for resources in your project, go to the *Quotas*
 page in the Google
Cloud Console. If your reached a CPU quota, waiting would not help; you
need to request changes to quota from the *Quotas*
 page in the Cloud
Console.

[google-appengine] N00b - CPU Quota Error Message

2020-01-06 Thread David Dickenson
Last night as a test I left a task running over night (something I normally
don't do) and this morning I discover my instance was no longer running and
was unable to restart it - I got the attached notification.

I upgraded billing from the free tier to actual billing and was still
unable to start.

I've tried upgrading from an 8GB RAM, 2 x CPU to 16GB RAM, 4 x CPU) but the
instance still won't restart.

Do I need to wait 24 hours before the instance can be restarted?

Thanks for all help in advance.

[google-appengine] Best way to handle long running tasks

2020-01-06 Thread Ahmet Faruk Acar
Hi everyone,

We built a web application where we utilized firebase functions for
lightweight works such as login, update profile etc.
and we deployed two functions to *App Engine*.

*Function 1*: *Downloading *an audio/video file from firebase storage and
*converting* it with ffmpeg and *uploading *converted version back to
storage.
But App Engine is terminating with a signal in the middle of download
process (after ~40 seconds) if the file is larger (>500MB)

*Function 2*: *Calling* Google API (ASR) and *waiting* response (progress
%) and *writing* this response to firestore until it's completed (100%).
This process may take between 1 min - 20 min depending on the file length.
But here we get two different problems.
*1. Either App Engine* creates a new instance in the middle of API call
process and kills current instance (since we set instances# to 1) even
there is no concurrent requests.
I don't understand this behavior since this should not require intensive
CPU or memory usage. App Engine gives following Info in logs:
This request caused a new process to be started for your application, and
thus caused your application code to be loaded for the first time. This
request may thus take longer and use more CPU than a typical request for
your application
*2. Or App Engine* terminates due to idle_timeout even it is waiting async
API response and writing it to db.
It looks like when there is no incoming requests, App Engine is considering
itself as idle and terminating after a while (~10 minutes)
Eventhough documentation says:

We are new to GCP and App Engine, so maybe we are using wrong product (e.g.
Compute Engine?)
and we saw PubSub, Cloud Tasks etc. which looks like a solution for our
case.
Thus I wonder what could be most elegant way to approach the problem and
implement solution?
Any comment, feedback is appreciated.

Regards
A. Faruk Acar
