 Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone here uses Sencha GXT and could help me. The Sencha
GXT forums are not very active...

I followed the PagingGridExample.java from the Explorer demo:
http://www.sencha.com/examples/#ExamplePlace:paginggrid. The code I use is
exactly the same, except that I am using my own DataItem instead of Post.
As well, instead of a separate PagingGridExample class, I just have a method
createTable() inside another class that runs the code found inside
PagingGridExample.java asWidget() . I'm having a few problems with it though.

The grid loads, however paging doesn't work. I set:
 final PagingToolBar pagingToolBar = new PagingToolBar(10);
However, even though the toolbar shows and shows the text: Displaying 11 -
20 of 28, etc, the grid shows all 28 rows. When I click the buttons in the
paging toolbar, the grid refreshes, but still shows all 28 rows on each page.

Also, the paging tool bar is unusually thick. I have to change the parameters
of the VerticalLayoutData in order for it to show at all:
 VerticalLayoutContainer con = new VerticalLayoutContainer();
 con.setBorders(true);
 con.add(grid, new VerticalLayoutData(1, 0.80));
 con.add(pagingToolBar, new VerticalLayoutData(1, 0.20));
The overall layout is a DockLayoutPanel with a gxt TabPanel in the center.
The grid is placed on a tab within a gwt VerticalPanel. All the other code is
the same as in the example, except as noted above.

I have attached a screenshot. Would appreciate any help!

Re: Google IO 2012 : no GWT session ?

Regardless of what the GWT team says, I do believe GWT as it is now will be
phased out. Don't get me wrong, I think the features that GWT provides are
second to none and the work put into it has been nothing short of impressive,
but it has to be recognized that it is also becoming a rather pain in lower
back for Google simply because it uses Java. Seems odd, but I really think
the whole thing with Android is leaving a bad taste. I really do think Java
will become used less and less for future projects (especially GWT).

The way GWT is now, like I wrote already, will probably be shifted to
something else. Dart is all the rage right now and it's nice, however it
almost feels like an attempt to replace GWT. Golang (Go) is another language
that is very well thought out and could conceivably replace Java within, at
 least, Google.

Perhaps emscripten has been looked at by the GWT team. Perhaps it may be
better to use something like that - which will introduce a mix of languages
with all the same features as GWT? I would enjoy that. I think many would.
Right now, though, I am keeping my distance from GWT. Even though it's a
 fantastic technology.

Hi, from what I can tell GWT doesn't support reflection at all in
client side (JS translatable) code. Just a few simple features like
getting class name (but I can't really call that reflection can

though, and with a lot of success I must say :-). I'm planning to
share the code on Google Code when I feel its ready, I'm currently
testing it on business application I'm working on and then we'll see.
If you (or anybody else) would like to give it a try, I might be able
to create some package and share this with you (or maybe create the
Google Code project right away). There is similar framework (don't
remember the name but can be found by Google ;-) ), which didn't
really didn't do the job for me because it was pretty difficult to
generate the reflection information that is needed (please correct me
if I got that wrong). My approach uses GWT generators and annotations
to specify which packages and which classes should participate in
reflection information generation. I'm supporting similar
functionality that java Class gives you with some modifications, but
you can obtain annotations, get/set fields and even call public
methods and create new instance in reflective way (but you need to be
careful on what info you add because it could greatly enlarge your
resulting JS code). I also have unit tests (of course) for bunch of
stuff but it would require a lot of cleanup I guess.

So if anyone is interested just leave a message ;-)

 Hi,

we are currently on the way creating the project infrastructure for a
 larger GWT project.
 The specs are:
 - git
 - Maven (using gwt-maven-plugin)
 - around 100 developers

My question is now: What are your recommendations setting up such a
large project and making teams productive?

 1. I could think of one pom.xml with many gwt.xml modules. Cool:
Simple testing and debugging and deploying.
 2. But: Separating the gwt.xml modules into separate pom.xml is cool
as well. But there seem to be some drawbacks: Running and debugging
across the module boundary (developing on two modules at the same
time). But - of course the versioning is much nicer.

Regarding 2) Should we use one git repository or one repository for each
 module?

I know there might be no definite answer on this. But I am sure there
are many people out that already have experience setting up larger GWT
projects. Can you recommend any best practices?

 Thanks!

 Cheers,

 Raphael

Re: Application support a maximum number of around 10 users at one time.

2010-11-17 Thread Giuseppe La Scaleia
Is very strange as what. I have developed an application that simultaneously
logged on 50 / 60 users simultaneously and have not had this problem. The
truth is an application developed with gwt 1.5.3 and Spring 2.5.6, but I do
not think that's the problem. You could look at the code?

2010/11/17 Deepak Singh deepaksingh...@gmail.com

 Hi,

We developed an application in GWT 2.1 and spring 3.0.4. Everything was
fine till development but when we hosted it on Tomcat 5.5 then we found that
the application is not supporting more than 10-12 users at a time. In that
case some RPC fails, Browser loads application very slowly, sometimes throws
some js exception, and browser hangs also.
If we test it locally, its fine all for a single user at one time.

Re: Announcing GWT 2.1

2010-10-29 Thread Giuseppe La Scaleia
Thanks for replay , it works now.
Best regards Giuseppe La Scaleia

2010/10/29 arrival...@gmail.com arrival...@gmail.com

 Hi Giuseppe,

I had a similar problems, and found out that late that my browser
(i.e. chrome) had cache the previous info, try to clean the temp data
 in the browser.

Also, check which GWT version you specified within your plugin
reference in pom.xml. Here is my example pom.

 plugin
groupIdorg.codehaus.mojo/groupId
artifactIdgwt-maven-plugin/artifactId
version1.3.2.google/version
configuration
logLevelINFO/logLevel
stylePRETTY/style
gwtVersion${gwt.version}/gwtVersion
webappDirectory${basedir}/war/webappDirectory
module${project.groupId}.isearch.ISearch/module
runTargetISearch.jsp/runTarget
copyWebapptrue/copyWebapp
/configuration
executions
execution
idgwtcompile/id
phaseprepare-package/phase
goals
goalcompile/goal
/goals
/execution
/executions
 /plugin

 Hope this helps.

Also, thank you so much for your hard work!! I had a question on
google's gwt-maven-plugin. First, is there documentation available
for the different configuration available? I have questions on the
function for hostedWebapp, webappDirectory, copyWebapp? Thank
 you again~!

GWT and Bing integration

2010-09-15 Thread Giuseppe La Scaleia
Hi all,
i have a great problem in my application. I have integrated a map with
google layer as base layer. I'm trying to integrate Bing as base layer with
great difficulties. I use Openlayers .
I think that the problem is caused by gwt components rendering. I also use
extjs and put a map in a ContentPanel.
Any ideas???

i got a map. users can, for example, use the app to calculate a

map

is nearly fullscreen, so if he justs prints it like that it looks
pretty bad. so what i do is to open a new browser window with a
smaller map. and now in this new window the route must be newly
calculated, because you cant give a java object to the new window,
right?

what i want now is that the print page uses the routing servlet of
the

main app. what i dont want is that the print page needs all the same
server code again. but i dont get it working. because if i merge the
projects the web.xmls clash.

thanks a lot!

Printing thro web service that all/any window could call with a

with a

single url?

Or did you mean you have a specialised GWT window written to handle
printing and you wish to route all printing to that GWT window? And
you wish to deal with the occasionally asked question of how to
perform inter-frame communication for GWT? I don't remember now, but
there is a google code project to expose GWT objects to javascript.
Coupled with GWT Dictionary API, I wonder if that will help.

Of course, you do realise that for two frames to communicate, they
should have the same root Window parentage so that one frame could
refer to another thro the frame hierarchy.

GWT team should seriously look at providing a comprehensive facility
for interframe communication, rather than having us perform
algorithmic contortions and acrobatics - like having to scratch your
own nose thro the route of bending your hand behind your head.

Have a look on gwt-youtube-api project (http://code.google.com/p/gwt-

http://code.google.com/p/gwt-youtube-api/wiki/SampleApplication.

Project is not an JSNI wrapper over existing JS client, but it is pure
GWT solution with parsing JSON responces sent from YouTube API.

It's not mature project and I'm pretty sure that there are some bugs
in the code, but YouTube demo works well (try to search something -
just CHANGE the default value in the search box - or click on video on
the home page). The responces from YouTube are pretty fast.

Any contribution is very appreciated, just write an email with
requests.

Enjoy, Peter

Maven is great when used as a more capable Ant, but sucks when used

Maven as a build dependency and testing setup tool is not bad but the
way it has been misused for everything else so far sucks. Despite any
enthusiasm anyone else has for Maven as a all-in-one Swiss knife all-
purpose tool, my personal observation says that Maven is the wrong
tool to use to perform MVP/MVC building (as well as almost everything
else).

Maven is a good tool to be used in-house within great companies like
IBM or Google who have some spare change to hire someone to maintain
the scripts to perform esoteric tasks like MVP/MVC code preparations
and concoctions but not for small companies or contractors.

Therefore, it is a disappointment that GWT 2.1 decided to use Spring
which has a huge dependency on the abuse of use of Maven.

GWT MVP/MVC should get back to the basics of XML XSD, like what
smartgwt is doing. I am hoping the GWT architects will provide an XML
XSD client side exposure to ui widgets and provide the specs to it so
that I could write my own mavenless data-ui binding (for example in
groovy).

I would like to request GWT architects to provide an alternative to
Spring for data-ui binding, with a more direct xml xsd route.

I am also writing this to encourage people to stop misusing maven,
because it spews out a lot of entrails and unlike a compilation error
in java or c++ from which you can easily spot the error, maven is like
Perl - because when you write in Perl, you don't need an obfuscater.

Gwt hosted mode too slow

2010-03-01 Thread Giuseppe La Scaleia

Hi all,
i have a maven multi module project with gwt 2.0.3.
When i execute goal mvn gwt:gwt the application in hosted mode starts
but takes 30 seconds more or less to go.
Too much time when you are in production. With gwt 1.5.3 or 1.6 hosted
mode was faster.

Any ideas.
Thanks giuseppe
