[Gossip] old list is gone

2002-12-25 Thread Jeff Breidenbach

The list at http://www.mail-archive.com/class-l%40ccvm.sunysb.edu/ has
worked for some time but it seems to have disappeared from the archives.
While it is not an active list in the sense that new message are added to
it, it is used as an archive of old messages. Is there a way to bring the
list back?

Way back in October, there were several hundred archives lost when a
disk failed during data transfer. Specifically, archives beginning
with the letters a through c that were inactive. That was a
really unfrotunate incident, and happened because the service was
strained way beyond its resources at the time.

I may have some backup data somewhere for some of these lists in cold
offline storage (i.e. hard disks sitting on a shelf somewhere) but for
all practical purposes I would consider these lists lost. I have no plans
to attempt an online restoration from the raw data for these lists.
