I completely agree. It's embarrassing/time consuming to collect news
from unclear log messages. Please all devs (including me), take care
about log messages. You can add keyword like [news] to highlight the
change or so.

So, let's not merge this PR and move on with 7.8.3.

We may consider then to fix master as planned and fork 7.10 from it.

Most changes are only in layout flags, these are easy to review and the

AFAICT, 4.1 is default in PyPI so when you install wx that way, you get
4.1. I am not sure at this point, I agree 7.8.3 should get released as soon

Some thoughts: maybe we should skip support for wxPython 4.1.0 for the 7.8.3 
release? Looking at the draft PR [1] addressing this, albeit not finished, 
quite a number of changes are required. This should be tested thoroughly, even 
the most seemingly innocent change can lead to unintended and unexpected bugs. 
Personally, I'm now quite glad we now -- at long last -- have a working and 
fairly stable version for mac.

The questions are how quick will the wxPython 4.1 be established/extensively 
used (how urgent is the support for it), and for how long are we willing to 
postpone this 7.8.3 release (for fixing and testing).

Perhaps a solution is to make an imminent GRASS 7.10 release with 4.1 support 
as suggested elsewhere [2] including the numerous fixes to be made with flake8 
and maybe black.

(This is of course only relevant if the number of changes required increase 
substantially from the present PR draft.)

We have unfortunately delay with 7.8.3 [1]. I don't see any blocker to
start with RC1 ASAP. If no blocker issues appears in two weeks [2] I
would suggest to skip RC2 and release 7.8.3 directly after RC1.

PS: I used GRASS for teaching/training three times this year (Feb,
Mar, Apr). In all cases I was forced to use GRASS 7.9dev since 7.8.2
contains critical bugs for me (eg. Open button in Python editor
doesn't work). I hope to see releases more often if possible.

in the case that this PR cannot be merged soon than I would suggest to
release 7.8.3 as it is ASAP and prepare 7.8.4 soon. We cannot postpone
release for longer time since there are already important fixes.
